Indeed I was

It's very useful being able to run your own characters through the early missions and, in the case of my Ele, getting her to L10 and a run to Gunnar's for survival purposes.

Bannable? - Doubtful. Unethical? - Maybe. Fun? - Indubitably.

hey guys,
i also got a problem using GWx2. I have the two directions with the gw.exe and the gw.dat in it (also the other files from the original gw folder). i type in the direction of the both in GWx2 and click "done". it asks me if it shall open up both copies and i click "yes". but now only one opens... what could be wrong?

after each update you need to copy the exe from the original and replace it, people tend to forget or skip this.

Just gw.dat and gw.exe - if you're not showing extensions, then that would be the .dat and the client, yes. The .tmp isn't necessary.

Once it IS working, you will find that it will STOP working after every update. What you then have to do is copy the gw.exe from the original folder to the secondary folder AGAIN.

Somebody with a brain could probably post a .bat that would automate the task?

Where can I get this loader?

I have X2 set up on my XP, but I manually edited everything and the registry for it and all, and I have a custom loader that patches the Second .Exe every time I copy it over.

try putting your GW in windowed mode before starting.

Yeap. That is how Mani get his char around instead of asking me for a run.

Mani how did you get the GWx2 icon on your desktop and you will have tell me how did all this when I am ready.

Easy - right-click and drag to desktop, select "create shortcut here". That's Vista, think it's similar wording in XP (possibly "copy as shortcut", I can't remember).

Oh, good advice about windowing - run GW normally, switch to windowed mode, quit it, then run GWx2. I generally resize the windows so they both take up 50% of the screen. It's a bit cramped that way but easier for trading.

Hum, seem to be plenty of people having problems with this. Possibly copy over the big ol' gw.dat just one time - a possible solution.

I will tell you my exact configuration, which is a possible clue:

I have two folders. One is called Guild Wars and contains nothing but the original Guild Wars installation. The second folder I called GW2. For ease of use, this is wher I installed GWx2 itself - whether that in itself makes a difference, I do not know. I then copied, from Guild Wars folder the following: gw.exe and gw.dat. Nothing else.

I'm not at home to check, but I think that all my GW2 folder contains is
  • gwx2.exe
  • gw.exe
  • gw.dat

I will check when I get home (approx 8 hours from the time of posting ), but that is the situation as far as I am aware.

Post your system specs. It may simply be that your system doesn't have enough memory to run two instances of Guild Wars.

[edit] Hmm - that error message is a known problem with Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. Does gwx2 utilise .NET? If so, it needs patching ^^

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework - it's easiest to think of it as a programming language (it's not, but it's easier to explain that way ^^)

Yup, you have 2 gigs - which is plenty.

Among many other things, the 64 bit versions of Windows are able to access vastly increased amounts of memory. My system runs 8GB, whereas the 32 bit version of Vista would only be able to "see" ~3.5GB of it.

Apart from that, there is not much advantage to mainstream users. A 64 bit OS is necessary to run 64 bit applications, and there aren't that many available to common joes like you and me.

This does not include Mario 64

I had a problem getting GWx2 to work on vista. Kept telling me it couldnt find the .dat file even though it was there and all paths were correct.

I fixed this by setting the permissions of every file in the 2nd gw folder to read only, then changing it back to full access. Been working fine ever since

To be honest, it sounds like you have a recent system. That bug in the .NET Framework was with the old version 1.1. Random Google hits on Microsoft help topics are pretty hit and miss. You've probably got version 3.0 at least so this probably isn't the answer :/

Which 32 bit OS, by the way? If it's Vista and you have autmatic updates enabled, then it certainly shouldn't be that.

That Out-of-memory..." error also occurs in C++ applications

Occurs when you add e.g. big bitmap images as design-time to your TForm. Remove or replace these and use e.g. Image1->Picture->LoadFromFile("myBitmap.bmp");
...but that means absolutely nothing to me! Maybe you got a dud copy of gwx2, like someone else earlier in the thread (ezride at posts 14 and 15)

it may be a dud, i d/l'd another one form the site but that didn't work either.
i'll have a look around,

i should mention that at first when i d/l'd it it worked but couldn't get the right pathways after 10 min it stopped and fro mthen on still has the memory stream error
