I know its kinda early to discuss this, but might as well plan early

Here's what the topic is about, I was wondering which shield will go well with the new swords from the previous update, namely Obsidian Edge and Emerald Blade.

They aren't dyable, which kinda narrowed down the list of shields that matches. Currently the only one that I could thought of will be an Emblazoned Defender dyed black to go with Obsidian Edge.

Any thoughts?

depends on the persons tastes, they might like tormented, they might like mursaat, they might like an exalted aegis.
imo you should just go w/ what you like

I agree there is no set pieces that need to go with anything. It's all preference and really I'd rather be of a different look than every other noob running around. Which I am I use the best shield in the game already Merkis Gaze. You know the one with the skull face and the spikes sticking out of it. <grin> and there are no better swords than the Firey Dragon and Icey Dragon swords. <grin>

btw its Merki's Gaze and it's not the best. its only the best for tanks

I agree...

And there should be some more added...
There are several Briar Weapons.
Wouldn't it be nice if there where a Briar Axe...
Combine that with the Oaken Aegis and you would have a very nice
weapon set.

Well depends on the definition of BEST.
Is it the stats? In that case any (non unique) shield will do cause they come in all desirable stats.
Is it the skin? Well thats just a matter of taste!
Is it the rarity/ value? In that case nothing beats a req9 or less -5 20% Magmas Shield.....which in my opinion would go great with the obsi blade.

But thats just what it is.......my opinion!

Most people have no idea what "matching" means. They will just put tormented and chaos gloves and obs helmet and look like clowns. But we should not discuss tastes so I'll just shut up.

For Emereald Blade, I'd say a tormented shield using texmod to change it's color to a greenish, or maybe a Diamond/Iridescent Aegis dyed Silver+Green.

Obsidian edge looks good with the following shields dyed black: darkwing defender, gothic defender, guardian of the hunt, mursaat shield, enameled shield, emblazoned defender, gloom shield, undead shield, aureate aegis, and plated shield.

Emerald blade looks good with these shields (you'll have to play around with the dyes to get the colors to match the emerald blade): diamond aegis, tengu shield, ornate shield, bladed shield, iridescent aegis, tall shield.

I think the obsidian edge and Tormented Shield look good together. The pitch of the black they use matches up pretty well.

I am quite sad that Draconic Aegis isn't dyable. It seems to have great potential of being matching with many nice weapons in game if it is dyable.

Magmas shield or a black tall shield might work with an obsidian edge. Its a shame that the new weapons are not dyeable.

I would say Obsidian and Gloom Shield myself.

Can't think of anything for the Emerald Blade. Maybe an Exalted Aegis? Simple and elegant.

Dude, the MATCH you are talking about depends on your armor also, or what i like to call your THEME.
The combination of your Armor(with helmet)+Weapon(s)+dye creates a theme for your character, in wich you end up creating a personality to it.
That is why most of the armors has a name (in wich it will end up creating a theme), this is very clear at some armor names as in Gladiators or Templar or Acolyte or Pyromancer or Knight.

So i ask you, what would match with a sword forged with obsidian shards in the fires of the Eternal Forgemaster? How do you think someone that went to the Fissure of Woe and managed to meet the Forgemaster would look like?

Now... if you are going to use those ridiculous bandanas or destroyer gloves... forget it, you are going to look like you are in a ridiculous carnaval parade anyways, so the most economic thing i suggest is to use the starter itens, so you dont end up wasting any gold. (like the monk in the obsidian edge's picture)

And remember kids... BLACK DOESNT MATCH WITH EVERYTHING!

Hmmm, an Obsidian Edge with a Guardian of the Hunt dyed silver or white would be nice. As for the Emerald Blade, I might have a reason to use a Equine Aegis dyed green.

IMO, try Emerald Blade + Enameled Shield - if you experiment with the dye mixes, you can get a green which will match the blade.
