I'd never kick a paragon off my team if he pinged me a good build. Unfortunately, most of the time I get a retarded build with 8 different spear attacks. Of course that's true of all the classes when you pug.

Paragons are much more than just buffers or support. An all paragon team does higher DPS than an all Ursan group and heals and buffs at the same time... go figure. They have the fastest attack rate ig. Spear throwing FTW. Also...
Paragon skills are easily misunderstood by most players. They see them as looking "gay" and won't play them. I will take a good paragon over a good warrior anytime, mainly because they help out the party more.

But yeah, the average PuG is full of FAIL. Most just can't handle variety. I remember when Sab's necros were becoming popular, I PuG'ed out of morbid curiosity (and bordom) and they asked if I had a hero healer, and I pulled out that necro....man I wished I took a screen shot lol.

Today I did Catacombs HM with a PuG as a Para... We had 1 human monk with his healer hero... Wow, he was so proud of himself to keep the whole team alive, boasting all the time. Sometimes it even looked like this group had a mysterious +100 armor all the time.... Strange, isn't it?

I don't even have factions yet, so I cant get SY, but seriously, I love my paragon. I started a derv and a paragon, and havent played my derv in a couple days.
anthem of flame+barbed spear+burning spear for a follow up = 6 seconds of -8 dps, and -3 stays on until you can repeat. I wouldnt call that bad dmg, and then you add in the other chants and such like TNTF, basically this is my favorite class since I started playing.

GW2 is an entirely new game, and the idea of a class using solely shouts and spears is one of the best ideas yet.GW2 will give ANET a chance to fix the paragon for example.
They will have cooler armor which I predict will look more like the norn armor, and they will probably have a better balance in their skills(Not 20% overpowered skills and 70% useless skills)

If they're on supporting duty, you love 'em. If they're on dmg dealing duty, you get jealous of 'em and hate them. Paragons are not required in a group such as a monk, but they certainly make ALOT of things a piece of cake. Paragons are just godly, both in PvE and PvP.

Anyway: I would blame ignorance;
alot of people don't get what a paragon is supposed to do (nor what a mesmer is supposed to or how to play an assassin etc.).
I can only remember being kicked out of a group once because I was a paragon (but not allowed into one for a zillion times); up to this day I still hate monks...
It happens occasionally and is extremly annoying but keep in mind: if people don't want you in a group because according to them proffesion XY sucks and they don't even want to lissen to your arguments and look at your build... then you can be near 100% sure they won't make it to the end of the mission/etc.
The only thing I can suggest is to keep trying.
PS: Try to remember what the name is of the person that wanted you kicked/ didn't allow you into the group.
High chance that 10 min after they entered the mission, they are back shouting something near: GLF people No noobs. (always puts a smile on my face ^.^)

Even without the PVE skills Paragons are extremely strong in PVE, they still have an extremely good DPS and excellent party support - You wouldn't go far wrong if you ran a gvg style Motigon or something, obviously with PVE skills you can do even better if you yourself are the Paragon.
They don't really fit into the typical Pug tank-nuke-heal build, I don't think you should really be that surprised for not getting accepted into them, they work around 1 guy who absorbs all the damage anyway while the others aoe nuke - really what good is a Paragon to that type of build. Quite frankly though I can't imagine why you would even want to be involved in that type of pug if you're on a Paragon, it's such a bad build which even still people are convinced is the easiest / sometimes only way of doing something. See this often in threads where people talk about wanting Ursan because without it you'd HAVE to run tank and spank or fail in areas like DoA.. ergh be less bad ^^.
Paragons isn't the same tale as mesmers really as far as pugs go - because Paragons are a lot better in PVE than mesmers are, they are better than pretty much everything really - their ability to do very high DPS and provide excellent party support is unmatched and their weakness of requiring lots of party members to get the most out of leadership won't even come into effect in PVE because your party will always be with you.
I do think that most people are clueless about mesmers, though I don't for one second think that thinking mesmers are pretty meh in PVE makes you clueless. I think a lot of builds that people post saying are good mesmer bars for pve are really horrid. Totally different subject, my bad >_>.

Physicals are the way to go if you want high damage, support, survivability. You obviously want buff the party as good as you can (while being a dps-machine yourself) and the Paragon excels at that, offensively and defensively.
I'd enjoy that instead of getting annoyed over obsidiottanks and Nukahs.

People don't like paragons simply because they can do the same damage as a warrior, while supporting the entire team and improving their attacks aswell. They're an improved version of a warrior, and people just can't accept that their favourite bunny-basher with healing breeze has been replaced by something which is more useful and(in my opinion) looks better too.
