Only Guild Leaders and Officers can send alliance chat.

While testing some random stuff I found this...


This feature is already implemented but there isn't any way to activate it heh.

If you're not in a guild, you can't use guild or alliance chat.

Since the Guild chat toggle is grayed out, it means that you're not in a guild.

Or, if you're on a trial key, I don't think you can use those chat options.

EDIT: And is this a bug you're talking about? Or just something new you've noticed? What's the point of this thread?

I know I'm not in a guild. That's not the point.. And this isn't a trial account, and yes trial accounts can speak in those chats.

Well if you read that error message it looks like Anet thougth about alliance/guild administration functions, they are even implemented in the game, but there are no toggles to activate them :P

Then why are you posting this?

EDIT: Ah, I see now, Duckboy. Yeah, I guess this was just a feature, probably one from the beginning, that they never implemented. Error message is probably a leftover from that.

i think the point is, why does it say leaders and officers only, when i thought members can talk in alliance chat too? :/

It was like this when it was first implemented

It was determined by anet that it was under the responsibility of guild leaders and officers to monitor the members' use of alliance chat and so it was opened to everybody.

I hope you realize alliance chat is old and that it was changed to allow everyone to use it a LONG TIME AGO to be of a better use.

Used to be Leaders/Officers, I spose this is ANOTHER thing ANet have missed. Not surprising really...

On that note, I remember they day they changed alliance chat...ours was a big alliance (400ish), so it was being spammed like CRAZY. Was kinda dumb, reinforced the fact that people under 14 shouldn't be allowed on the internet.

heh thats why the game is rated teen, but parents these days dont really care what games their kids play.

I hope they never ever implement that. My guild is spread out over 2 guilds, and to maintain unity AC is now the de facto GC (and actual GC is verboten).

EDIT: durr. Higher on this very page I see it used to be that way and then they changed it to the current situation.

Just a small leftover like everyone else said. Not much point in letting this continue.
