I run a private guild, me being the guild leader.

So really, I don't do too much more than anyone in my guild, (guild is friends only, experienced players) but we all have fun, and theres little e-bullshit to deal with so everyones happy!

A good leader is someone with a good overall experience, and someone who has a life... real life I mean... not someone who dedicates his life to GW or something... A funny person is always good... what else... someone who is always one step ahead of you! that's funny too... lawl

I think it does partly depend on the guild---I leader who only does pvp in a pve guild??? that wouldnt work.

though in general any leader should be mature, open to ideas, willing to LISTEN to said ideas, take others feelings into consideration...be able to make tough decisions and explain them to those who dont agree (you cant please all the people all the time).....

any leadership position has these requirements, I have been in such a position and can say that there are a bunch more---but I have been criticized for making long posts.

Other than the obvious like being a good, active, experienced player; I guess one of the most important qualities in a GL is his/her ability to deal with events and drama aka his Leadership qualities.

In general successful guilds usually have good leaders, this is not a generalization just an observation.

I did that but still had arguements with myself.Won most of them.Well a friend from D join so were 2 man guild.Still I was in guilds before and I found many were more focused on getting the numbers.Very little attention was paid to helping out new folks.I know there are so guilds out there that are squared away but I think they are few.Guild leaders need to pick good officers and make sure when they have time they are helping out.Too many guilds I joined with new folks (game wise) it was basically they were there for the count. No one would go help them on missions or questions.Shoot I would help more of the new folks after just joining then the old timers of the guild combined.A good guild leader would try to pick officers that would actually go out and help or they themselves would help out. Most didnt.

Racthoh is a super moderator on Guru and guild leader of Scars Meadows [SMS]. He founded SMS a long time ago. And ya as Malice said he is a Pro PvE'r.

Me.

Drains all his money on his lovely guild members.

Ratcock seemed a nice person but I only played a few times with him and that's already pre-Nightfall ago.

The perfect guild leader...

No one can ever achieve such a status. At one point or another, a guild leader will:

-kick someone for proving him/her wrong
-be not active for a month and leave officers in charge
-let their friends become officers just when they've joined
-allow members to spam like crazy for his/her entertainment
-kick people because he/she is bored
-start a fight and then prove he won by kicking them out

(All of which has occurred for me at some point in time...)

If you want a perfect guild leader, make your own guild and become the leader. Just don't give people a reason to hate you or consider you one lousy leader.

A leader's legitimacy can actually be seen nicely in their selection of officers.

Our current leader isn't as inactive as his officers are, but the officers in TAM are really good. Despite Silly's inactivity at times, his selection of officers shows that he knows something about running the guild.

- Active as much as his/her real life allows.
- Has clear, defined goals for the guild.
- Resolves conflicts as soon as possible in the best way. (at the time, though hindsight may say otherwise)
- Involves his/her members/officers in decision-making. (defining goals, planning events, etc.)
- Never assumes a dictator role.
- Has a great working knowledge of the game. (bonus points for knowing an excessively large amount)
- Keeps emotions under control. (most of the time, nobody's perfect)
- Knows a lot about his/her members in the guild. (real life, in-game personal goals, preferences, etc.)

I'm fast approaching over a year of leading my guild, and I'm yet to do any of those...

When my guild used to be active, my leader could get 5-6+ AB teams formed in ~5 minutes after all our officers had been trying to assemble one for half an hour (gogo you) and the guild died when her internet crashed for a while ._.

OT: My opinion is pretty much what Malice described on the first page.

I've seen it been done, my previous guild was lead by a PvPer. Her behavior was something that in the end, coupled with a couple other things, made me leave. She wouldn't play with her guildies, I clearly remember mentionning we were "PvP noobs" and would play with her in HA friends or not play at all and just chat. If at first I didn't care so much, in the end it just got terribly irritating for me. I've felt another officer was the leader, and it bothered me... I might've played with her 3 or 4 times in the 9 months I was in the guild.

If you're a leader, play with your members. Get to know them and how they play, help them improve. Don't go on power trips. Choose your officers respectively and appoint one as temporary leader if you have to go for a long while. And sometimes, you'll have to stop being the friend and be the leader, the one who makes decisions (suggestion: consult your officers!). You won't be perfect, but you'll have a good leadership =].

Been a guild leader for over two years. I wonder when that some point in time will be for me. Does that mean I'm a perfect GL?

BTW .... aren't you the person that started a QQ thread about all those points a while ago?
