Does NOT require you to be on Vent 100% of the time. Last thing I want to do is listen to 12 year olds arguing.

Basically, you want someone that knows the game, is willing to help people, is fair with punishment, one that doesn't cause drama, willing to kick people if they need it, and doesn't promote noobs to officer.
If you're doing a good job, you're members will let you know.
Holly Herro
Starts random alliance abuse for no reason, then goes on and on about random stuff. PM's the youngest Alliance member with "webcam" offers.
That's basically my guild leader. I really do love him =3

My GL is wonderful. He makes us all officers so there isn't that whining about being promoted. He makes the long missions & HM dungeons fun by keeping us all laughing together. We are a large guild in a great Alliance and Toffin keeps us happy and that keeps the game fun!
FoxBat
Can diplomatically approach other guilds & knows when the guild needs/wants to leave/join an alliance. Our members (most active are officers) take care of the rest.

Experienced, helpful, caring, fun to be around, active, mature, has a sense of humor.
Stolen Souls
-ACTIVE...a guild leader that isn't on for days/weeks at a time should relinquish the spot to someone who can...at least until they are able to get on more.
-Fair...choosing favorites for everything while leaving everyone else out = bad
-Mature...a guild leader making comments about sex and typing in n00b-talk = bad sign >_>
-Strict...a leader that upholds the rules and keeps the peace = a good one
And yeah, requiring Vent is lame, lol. I can see it being required for serious PvP events and such but otherwise, seeing "Vent REQUIRED!!!!!!" is a huge turnoff.

I have three brothers and a sister-in-law that all play, so we decided to start a guild just for the family. I think they picked me as the leader because I was by far the most experienced. I help them out on missions and getting places and builds and equipment suggestions etc. I split my time between working on my stuff and helping them out. I've spent the most money on the guild and have not spent money on anything except the guild as of late, however, they all pitch in quite a bit. We're a pretty close family and really enjoy playing together, and we're all old enough (youngest is only one unmarried and he is engaged) that there really isn't any drama. We all worked together on picking cape, GH, and GH NPCs so everyone has been very involved. I hope that the only complaint they could have is that I don't play quite as much as one of the others due to rl responsibilities that require me to be away from home.
Overall, my goal as a guild leader (particularly for a guild like ours) is to let everyone participate in all decisions so I don't come across as being "superior" for having my name at the top of the list (I don't believe that experienced = superior), and to be as helpful as I possibly can because I honestly enjoy helping them out as much as I do working on the stuff I like to do (vanquishing, etc.). And it's really cool to be able to be in constant contact with family when up until now we only got to see each other maybe twice a year and only talk a few times more than that.
Guild Wars - bringing families together in ways AT&T could only dream...

You should ask my guildies to be honest.
However, if you'd ask me I give all credit to them.
In the end they make or break the guild.
I think the most important things are activity and accessibility.
Players should have no hesitation to contact their leader and (s)he should be available to them frequently.
And acting upon things that happen if needed.
Also being able to deal with alliance issues if the guild is in an alliance.
All other things could and should be covered by officers or even members in my opinion.

My guild leader, imho, is a perfect guild leader.
He is not biased towards anyone depending on race, gender, or sexual preference.
He is extremely nice, polite, and curdious.
He makes the coolest guild events that I've ever experienced!
He is always willing to answer a question/help with a quest or mission if he isn't busy.
He handles problems ASAP and doesn't wait till the last minute before "all hell breaks loose".
I love my guild/alliance :D

Hmm...if I were looking for a guild (which I am not - lol) - these are the attributes I would look for in a Guild leader:
* Does not build a guild around him/herself (cult of personality guilds)
* Does not boast, nor demean others but shows respect and gives credit where it's due.
* Always shows complete respect to others, regardless of their playing ability, guild tag, or character.
* Does not seek to elevate their 'position' at the expense of others.
* Shows consistency as best they can in dealing with people who break the rules.
* Is not afraid to make the tough calls (kick offending members)
* Is not afraid to delegate
* Is not afraid to get their hands dirty and help out, even in the non-glory stuff.
* Is not elitist
* A fun person to hang out with
* Gives loads of time to training and developing players
* Is not egotistical, nor indulges in self promotion (or gets others to do it for them).
* Uses their Guild's resources for the good of the wider community.
* Is a very good player but is prepared to listen and learn and admit mistakes
* Has a clear vision of where they want to go, and has a track record that proves it.
* Able and willing to take responsibility for mistakes, and not make excuses.
* Realizes that the position of Guild leader makes them a servant not a tyrant.
Lastly, acts with complete and uncompromising integrity.
If a person scores badly on this list, then they really shouldn't be leading themselves, let alone a guild.
