Hi guys,

I am completely new to the game, and i have to say it is very fun to play. I am still learning, but have found i like my warrior character the best. I cant seem to choose which weapon to use because i dont know which is best. YES i am currently using a sword so the guy who posted about the warriors running around with swords is probably laughing at me right now, but that is ok.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance !

Swords are fine. Most people on this forum aren't.

Use whatever you like better and what fits with your skills more.

Swords provide more consistant damage. Axes and hammers have higher dmg, but this isn't necessarily as consistant as a sword.

EDIT: Alex's post is more indepth than mine, so skip to the bottom.

Sword = Steady damage output Many sword skills inflict bleeding and cripple
Axe = Higher spike damage but more chance than a sword to hit low Many axe skills inflict deep wound
Hammer = Higher damage on hit than a sword or axe but slower swing rate Many hammer skills inflict knockdown and weakness

Hope this helps you choose.

I use swords when I play with my warrior, but use axes if I am farming. Apply poison + whirling axe + poison ous axe grip = Degen party. Never really gotten into hammers, but I gave one to a buddy of mine while he was still early in the game and he really likes them. As a warrior, however, you should probably avoid staves, wands, and bows.

Swords - high single-target constant damage

Axes - higher potential damage, more 'spikey' than swords - concentrating a large amount of damage into a short period of time to overwhelm the enemy.
Axes are also powerful at area of effect (AoE) damage.

Hammers - knockdowns. All about the KD - disrupting the enemy and preventing it from doing stuff.

Swords are a very viable and incredibly powerful choice for PvE, given the strength of [wiki]Dragon Slash[/wiki] when combined with the PvE-only skills "Save Yourselves!" and [wiki]Brawling Headbutt[/wiki].
Using swords for [wiki]Riposte[/wiki], however, is not a good idea - Warriors kill things in Guild Wars, instead of wasting time tanking.

Nothing wrong with swords. Ignore the PvP know-it-all. Some people have a bigger ego then brain.

To elaborate on what Stormlord Alex posted, it depends on your playstyle.

If you would rather kill things consistently over time, Swords are the way to go.

If you would rather kill things in quick, short bursts, Axes are the way to go.

Hammers are just plain fun.

In my opinion, Hammers tend to be less effective in PvE because they focus more on sitting your target down and beating them into the dirt until they stand up or die, and that kind of disruption usually isn't needed for a kill in PvE. I'd lean toward axe or sword, but if you like hammers go ahead and use them.

I tend to like the skins for the swords better than any of the other choices....but thats not why I use it, I just like the sword skills better. Now my husband loves the hammer...so thats what he uses mostly (or an ax, a sword on his character looks kinda funny---)....but there are good reasons to use any of them, there are times when a knockdown warrior is better than a slasher, swords are faster than hammers which sometimes means your party stays alive vs your party gets wiped (been there, done that)....

but in the end, play what YOU want to and dont let the silly people here tell you otherwise.

Yea ignore that other post, swords are very fun and flexible in playstyle. Dragonslash (elite) is a great single target spike. I myself like the Steady Stance (elite) build that I have made with swords. I could use ax, but I find my sword build is more effective. Eh thats just me, and I'm hardly a pve "noob".

Use what you find effective and what you like to play with. Find a build that you can run effectively, whether it be ax, sword, or hammer. Oh and keep in mind, the hammer knock downs is the ultimate interrupt. It interrupts casting, movement, attacks, and for 1-2-4 seconds completely takes out that enemy. So thats 1-4 seconds of you just pounding on them and them not helping their group. It only cannot stop shouts. However in pve, hammers are less effective since mobs tend to be bigger than 4v4 pvp and a shield may be handy there.

QFT - this is what it all boils down to.

Swords are deadly imo, the extra defence from a shield helps too.

Dragon slash + For Great Justice = instant recharge = spam = win

I prefer axes. When I started playing a warrior I used whatever dropped for me. If I nice shiny sword dropped then I equipped it and put sword skills on my bar. If later a hammer that was better than the sword dropped I'd switch to hammer.

My first really nice drop was a Green axe (Wing's Axe). I switched to axe skills and never looked back. At this point, I'm so comfortable with the axe lineup that axes are all I use.

All 3 weapons have advantages and disadvantages. Use each of them for a bit and decide for yourself which one suits you best.

Swords And Axes work better in PvE than a hammer because you can also wield a shield with swords and axes, so if you are wielding a shield you have higher AL(armor level)

it is truely personal prefrence, however seeing that you are new i'd avoid hammers because you can't use a shield with them, so stick to sword or axe for a while

The sword vs axe debate has gone on for years. I prefer axes, but it really is a personal preference.

To best decide which one you prefere, I would recommend spending some time in the warrior section here on Guru, and look up some builds on www.pvxwiki.com -Find something you like and try it.

If that doesn't help, well, look at the various axes and swords and decide which one looks prettier

swords are alright, high single-target DPS

axes are statistically better in PvE and PvP though. in PvE Triple shop pumps out more DPS than a sword could ever home to, and in PvP axes are the king of spiking.

there is no better weapon of choice, all 3 have advantages and disadvantages as people have stated, i personally like using axe builds the best, but that could be because i used sword builds for around a year :P
