If you have balthazar's spirit, then why would you ever use essence bond? It seems to me that balthazar's spirit is better than essence bond in every possible way. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

Balthazar's is target ally, and the target gains the benefit.
Essence Bond is also target ally, but the caster gains the benefit, so the caster can use it on another ally and gain energy whenever the condition is met on that ally.

When the caster and the target are the same player, Balthazar's is the better spell.
