Guildwars 2 companions!
Action Jacson
So, I was thinking again *gasp* about the soloing in gw2 and I have read some articals and listened to some Podcast. So, the idea is that when you play by yourself you get a side-kick or something, well I wasn't doing anything at one in the morning so I decided to draw what I think what each profession should get for their Companion.
Now, I didn't draw and for Rangers because obviously there going to get some animal.
As for Assassins, Ritualists, Dervish, and Paragons I don't know if there even going to be in gw2, so I didn't bother.

Note that you get the option of having your companion with you.
Your companion will basically be like the GW2 version of a hero, they will not take up a party slot but somehow make the player weaker when you take them.
I have no idea how they plan to make us weaker though, maybe you have to use your own attribute points for the hero as well, or you can only use half a bar in order to have 2 primaries and 2 secondaries(and easy access to hotkeys for that companions skills).
And in that I believe companions will just have straight up professions and appearances, so you could have Coss's grand daughter tag along with you and who would have an ever bigger afro than her ancestor.
Having my shadow act as an MM while I curse would look awesome though.
Mesmers using slimes as pets sounds interesting though, that whole skill absorbing and getting stronger thing was pretty cool in story, though they could have used more viable builds with multi profession skills instead of the ones they had with monster skills.

As for the mesmers, maybe they could have a floating mask thing instead? Blobs just seem so... un-aristocratic. And the mask could change color or appearance when it absorbs things. Otherwise, the others sound really fun ^_^.

We'll the idea on the mesmer blob, is well...from blobby

i hope they let every profession have pets instead of only the rangers.

Get rid of pets, and bring in mercenaries as seen in Diablo. Makes for more customization.

No!, I would want Companions to be Pets or other Economical Creatures.
Like you can bring a Tengu Partner, Naga Partner or you'r Pet.
Don't get amazed how can Animals use Magic and etc, There are other Monster we fight allover Tyria which can be Classified as Animals.
Well, Elementals, we could count them as Pets, It's fun to have a Elemental Companion but they are not that smart so other E. Creatures, anyone^^?
But not all Smart Races can be used as partners like, Mursaats, Djinns or Margonites.
Creatures which seems to be Smarter than Humans, or somewhat Ancient.

Getting to use a Gelatinous Cube as a mesmer would be awesome
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelatinous_cube
BioWare's description of it:
Just when you thought that unsightly pasta stains had no champion, and you were comfortable in a world where mayonnaise didn't fight back, comes a creature made entirely of the stuff that bursts out of mashed caterpillars. These are the rock stars of downtrodden gravy stains and greasy splotches everywhere: a large, intelligent cube of glop that can chase you down and digest you before you've accepted you're being beaten up by an overachieving dessert.

I'd rather pets be something like... Asura's get golems... Norns get the bear spirit, dwarves get some sort of wooden golem, etc etc...
It makes the ranger unique for one thing, thumpers... Otherwise pets have no other practical use in builds that matter. Plus anyone could be a ranger secondary and get a pet... But the OP's suggestion is much better.

I rather have a "hero" type companion,You can chose his race,proffesion,apearance,armor,weapons,... so you are basicly playing two characters at once, that would also make up for more intresting combinations when you are playing with only your companion.
