Hi! My daughter and I are both new to GW and are still in Prophecies presearing. We are trying to fill out our map with all available outposts and spots.

We noticed that there is a big unexplored area north of Fort Ranik that we cannot seem to get to by any ordinary means.

Does that part of the Prophecies presearing map ever open up to us?

THANKS! Love it here, except for feeling like a noob for the next thirty years, at this rate!

nah, nothing is there. if anything, i wouldn't recommend trying to map if that is what you're doing. presearing doesn't offer a cartographer title (though that would be awesome.... Presearing-Acalon Grandmaster Cartographer 100% ftw )

on a side note... welcome to guild wars!! :>

a lot of parts of the map are not really accessible, so don't worry about em

and as jonnie said, it doesn't count for a title. (but always a fun thing to do anyways )

have fun in guild wars!

Hi and welcome,

Nothing further to add really, except that if you're in an exploring mood, there is lovely little 'hidden' cave just to west (?) of Fort Ranik - nothing in it, just a nice place to visit.

Have fun!

Hey welcome to guildwars man!
Right here, despite a few little edges and knicks is the whole map, http://home.comcast.net/~moomanibe/MapAsca.jpg

We FOUND that cave!! In fact, I was sure they wouldn't put a cave there which was very hard to find, and then put absolutely nothing in it. Not even a hidden stash barrel.

But daughter was right, I see -- nothing there. Crazy.

And thanks for the welcomes and the clarification of the map. We weren't going for a title (we're so new we don't even know what titles are) ... we were just exploring the place and seeing how many new spots we could find. I was on a computer in my office and she was on her account across the hall in her bedroom, and we were yelling things across the hall to each other ... too much fun!

Although it makes me wonder how people/friends play together who aren't within shouting distance. I can't participate in alliance chatting much when I'm running around toasting things.

We LOVE GW so far, and I am NOT a fan of shooter games. But this one is so much fun. My adult son is next in line to be added to the group. (He use to play Ultima Online as a teen.)

oops, sorry about the double post.

tw1tch ... That map is great! The Academy -- is that part of Prophecies presearing? That's the only part we haven't "touched" yet. We haven't explored everything (the Northlands scare the crap out of us still), but we've hit all other points enough to activate our maps in those areas.

The Academy is part of the quest to get out of Pre-Searing. (After completion of the quest, "The Searing" happens in a cut scene.) Don't do the primary quest beyond picking your second professional until you're absolutely certain you've experienced as much of the Pre-Searing area you want/can, as you will never be able to re-access it on that character again.
Also, the Northlands aren't really that bad, until you encounter the Charr bosses. It is a large, very enjoyable area, and most of the mobs are level 7 or so. In one of the deepest part of the area is a Charr ritual site (Don't really know what else to call it...) where there are 4 level 10 Charr bosses, which, I believe, are all of different professions.
Welcome to Guild Wars and I hope the experience of you, your daughter, and your son, is very enjoyable. ^_^

First of all, welcome to Guild Wars!
I started to play guildwars because of my son. So I can understand you regarding that matter.

To comunicate with others, you use a program that uses voice over IP. You can use TeamSpeak or Ventrilo. You set it up in your computer and with a set of headphones and mic, you can talk to other people thru it. These programs are free of charge and there are a lot of free servers that will allow you to create a channel.

It s very fun and helpful. when using Vent (Ventrilo) or TS (TeamSpeak) it sounds like when you are in the telephone.
