What's the use of dedicating miniatures?

The prices of these are done with a simple analogy. Since we are saying that Dedicated and Undedicated minipets are virtually the same in use, so is a +29 shield handle of fortitude compared to a +30 shield handle of fortitude. The 1 health does not make any difference at all, yet, a +30 shield handle of fortitude will cost over five times the price of a +29 shield handle of fortitude because it isn't perfect. The same can be said of a minipet, even though you can't actually accomplish that much more with an Undedicated minipet as a dedicated minipet, the price is merely halved. Based on the analogy from the shield handle, the price should actually be 1/5th of the value, yet it isn't.

I'm amazed at how high the expectations for the hom have risen. GW2 isn't anywhere near its release date and no real information has been given as to how the two games may or may not connect. The only reason to dedicate any minipets except for the 20 cheapest ones is for people with OCD who like things to be complete regardless of benefit.

in a later post Gaile stated that in no way would you be able to transfer wealth/advantage over a new player stated by jeff strain/mike o brion/the dev team as it would be bad policy to create an instant elite class.

I see minis as largely useless, and for that reason I think I only have about 7(?) dedicated, only one of which is worth more than 10k. I can see this sort of thing making the blood boil of people who might stand to loose a few gazillion ectos by dedicating mini pandas and ghostlies while Whiptail Devourers and Jade armours are viewed as equal.

why they are so high priced, over simpel stuff like grey giants ?

the damn answers is eas<:

because thsoe damn onis ect. are so ****ing RARE and they are LIMITED, this means, the real rare ones HAVE NO source of production to brignin more undedicated ones, because you can't get the real rare minipets yet as birthday present minipets (for example as 3rd year or so)

Mini kanaxai exists in the game approximatley only 28 times around or so and THAT, where the game has over 5 MILLION players -.-

There it is natural, that those freaking pets get ab"used" to make with them insane amounts of money...

What this game simple needs to get those freeking minipets to HUMANOUS amounts as for prices, that a normal player CAN pay, without harcore powerfarming *cough* botting *cough* or *cough* Ebaying *cough* is the simple fact, that the amount of those pets must be dramatically RAISED, so that the prices will fall down so long, until they reach a normal value for a price !!

When the prices are to ****ing high, that they go far over 1 million gold, so that only with thousands over thousands of ectos and several hundred of *cough* cheated, er duped *cough* armbraces can be payed, THEN the economy of this game can't be anymore serious fine - the economy is BROKEN and what we see here about those ridiculous prices is just an insane INFLATION, where money is worth shit (has also soemthign to do with the 100k limit) that players have to search for valuable things, that are somethign worth to be able to trade things with insane prices easier.

When prices go so high, that even ectos are worth shit and people have to take duped armbraces to be able to pay, then this games economy has turned really to a pitiful thing, and all that only for the little amounrd of no life hardcore farmers, which think, its the best goal in the game to becoem the richest player of the game, those people, those epeens can't grow big enough >.>

I hope really, that it will be enough to max the minimum of al the monuments of the HoM to be able to get the maximum bonus for GW2 and not that every single thing putted on the hoM will give you something different...
Because if this woudl get handled so, all those Unendless Epeeners with their huge amounts of ebey good, duped armbraces and ect. pp would have to see then, how they uber rare minipets will dramatically lose surely on "value".

Because then they would not be able anymore to say things like:

"This pet costs so much ,because ists uber rare, "and it might you you something specific for GW2, that only this minipet could give you, when yiou put it onto your Hom"

those times would find immediately then an End !!

Because then it owudl be completely regardless with what you fill your monument and it will be totally regardless, if your 20th's minipet will be than a Whiptail Devourer or if it will be an Oni. Regardles of with what pets you max then the monument, once tha monument is filled, all get the same bonus then for GW2 !! So MUST it be, and nothing else !!!

I'll be dedicating stuff that currently all my characters can use once I see the benefit in GW2.
And yes, HoM does seems completely worthless at this moment. Although I do love displaying the ladder and the one-wheel-cement-push-around-thingy!

I just like to fully complete the games that I play. Like collecting all the stars in a Super Mario game. Same goes for my HoM.

I really don't care if it will give me a benefit in GW2 (tangable, only cosmetic...whatever) for every single minipet, or only if you maxed the HoM with 20. I just keep on collecting

Have you guys even read the official statement from the devs?

/wiki HoM

Third paragraph down. Read it carefully, and it will answer most of your questions/assumptions about the HoM.

Maybe I can break it down for those that dont know how to wiki and or read.

...giving you access to exclusive [1]titles, [2]companions , [3]weapons, [4]attire, and [5]miniatures.

I took the liberty of numbering the "rewards" and will mention that the number of categories, is the SAME as the number of Platforms found within the HoM.

IF the items are TRADABLE then dedicating the items WOULDN'T be the ONLY way to "acquire" them would it?!? They could be acquired by trade, so... does that answer your question?

One more thing, I know ANET may have made some choices that many people don't agree with, but I do NOT think they will give out rewards 1:1 for each item/mini/title placed in the HoM (200+ rewards is a bit much). I also don't think they will cut the community short and give out only 5 items, 1 for each platform meeting the bare minimum requirements...

They aren't about to reward the people that played the game for 4 years with 5 measly items that anyone can accomplish in about 1 days work. (WTB 20 1st and 2nd year minipets 20k!!)

My guess is they may reward GW2 items based on a collection of GW1 items, since it seems unreasonable to give 67 minis to new players in GW2. Maybe 1 pet for dedicating all the first year minis, another pet for all 2nd year minis, and then maybe 1:1 for some of the limited (asian) minis that you actually had to work for, win a contest, win roller beetle racing, win in HoH (Ghostly Hero), or w/e. Maybe a title for having all the PvE or PvP titles accomplished etc etc.

Basically I think there will be something in between having 400 rewards and 5, and they will not be tradable.

I could be in the minority here, but I think most of you are looking at this in the wrong way. I have three minis dedicated in my HoM; My Kuuna, my Boney, and my Destroyer (no cool shorthand for him I guess). The ONLY reason they are in my HoM is because I LIKE them. If there was a white mini I fell in love with, I'd dedicate it.

GW2, according to a NCSoft quarterly report ,won't even have any major announcement till sometime in 2010-2011. So, for me, looking at you HoM as anything other that an in-game locker to hang all your cool stuff, is just a waste of time.

I predict that in gw2 you will receive 1 mini that consists of 20 mini MINIS. The ones you currently have on display in the HOM will be bunched together into 1 mini that will all run around you when shown. Just a guess.

I have collected all minis except 1. I have put tons of time into getting minis and dedicating them(My panda came from Tode who started this thread!). What else do you do with the gold/ectos when you have thousands of ectos? There is not much else to spend it on after you have all money titles and everlasting tonics. Minis are basically all that is left to spend ectos on besides maybe a gold trim guild.....Which I also just bought btw. lol

If the minis don't do anything neat like my prediction in gw2 it will be a let down but it is not going to ruin gw2 for me. I will still be a fan.

Lord almighty, I could just picture the amount of lag that would cause in outposts like Kamadan 2.

Forget the lag, I can't picture "thousands of ectos". I've never even seen a stack of ectos. How does one obtain thousands?

There are a few ways. Power Trading, running and scamming are probably the most common. A lucky minipet here and there doesn't hurt. Or farm the hell out of DoA or UW. Or play lots of PvP, and get z-keys and HA chest drops.

Or dupe items, which is what most of the uber-rich people with stacks of ambraces did. This is not possible anymore, I think. Bannable offence anyway.

I'm lucky enough to own all the minis I really like, they're all undedicated so I can add them to my HoM when it's made account wide.

Some used to be very expensive (1st year Greased), some are less expensive (Kuunavang, Celestial Pig, Grawl...) and others are near worthless (Charr Shaman...), but I don't care about their price, I do it just for the look.

I would enjoy an Island Guardian, a Naga or a Kanaxai, but those are way too expensive for what they would bring to my gameplay (nothing ).

I'm sure Anet won't create different classes of players as soon as GW2 is released, so don't expect GW miniatures to bring you anything you could trade.

I don't think they'll bother making unlocks for each miniature. At the moment, there are 69 different miniatures (83 if they make 4 years presents), do you seriously think there would be 69 exclusive miniatures for GW owners ?

Well for those with thousands of ectos it is assumed they did 1 of 2 things. Duped and got away with it. Power traded from 2005 through 2006, if you were smart and did it at the right time, you scored a lot of money. Especially once mini-pets came, get the right ones for a low price, sell for a shit load.

Anyways, this thread is ancient but the difference between dedicated and undedicated is that people don't usually buy mini-pets to watch them, I always thought they bought so they could put in HoM. But some people like $14,000 coat racks and $600,000 cars that don't go faster than the $75,000 one. Kind of like people buy from AE and A&F, instead of Kohls and Wal-Mart.

Ego, vanity, e-peen. One of them.

Oh as for the GW 2 rewards, I think White Wasabi is close to what it was.

Hmmm, I don't have either the time, nor the nerves for power trading. Scamming is out of the question since I'm a nice person most of the time. Farming DoA and UW would require steady partners... Playing PvP is out of the question - people there are worse than bad.

That leaves me with running. Hmmm, I'll give that some thought.

Or, if you got enough $$$, buy 10 accounts and set them up for the Xunlai Tournament House. If predicted correctly, it's an easy 100k/account, each month.

Let's just hope the value of the ZKeys won't get any lower.
