Hi All,
I bought, installed and played Guildwars in USA.
When I moved to Japan I noticed a pretty big negative impact on my play because my ping times got much worse. This may be partly because I am in a rural location. But I think its mainly crossing the pacific that does it.
So I have been thinking about if there is a way to fix this.
I know there is a Japan server. I am sure I'd get much better performance if I used this. I am wondering if this is as simple as changing territory. Or whether that just affects which district is displayed. What I'd like to do is try playing on the Japan server. Does anybody know how to do this? Even better, does anybody have experience with this?
I pretty much only PvP with guild/people I know. My main concern is ping time.
cheers,
wei
Changing Guildwars Territory and Server

Well you can go to Japan/asian districts, dunno if that changes your server.
Do it just like your going to an international district, it's in the same drop down window.

ANet removed the territory change option at login in favor of territory change in all outposts. You may now select territory in district options.

currently korean districts are the only ones available but they seid in the future other asian locations will be added.

The territory change options were only between America and Europe. The Asian(Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Taiwan, etc) servers were never part of it. And though Anet has removed a lot of the territory stuff, Japan isn't part of it yet(though they are working on it).
In the mean time, you could contact support and see if they are willing to change territories for you.

Yes, support is your best bet but dont worry like it has been said they are working at adding more Asian districts, although it looks unlikely that we will ever have chinese friends i would think that you will be able to jump back and forth soon enough :P

I have the same issue as yours and contacted plaync about it they replied the next day saying that I need to contact ncjapan about this because its their local territory.
The webiste (http://guildwars.plaync.jp/) is all in kanji that I can't read therefore I ask my japanese friend to do the inquiry for me, ncjapan said that for the time being players can't switch from US/Euro to Japan server, they also said that they are still working on it.
I have lag issues before when I'm still using ADSL plus it always disconnects when theres an incoming and outgoing call. Well I got tired of it so I switched to B-FLETS Hikari and now my average ping in game is around 180~200 even on peak hours and even on busy cities like Spamadan

I had almost the same problem as you, but I am Hong Kong -> America. I had trouble buying new GW chapters. I contacted support but they said they can't do that for me. That's my own experience. You should contact support and ask the people there I think. Good Luck~

I did the same thing, Moved to Japan from America and the Ping is awful playing in American Dist's. I now mostly play on/in Korean Dist and have found that to be ALOT better on the ping. Hope this helps ya.
