Short Rant .. maybe it's just me!!!
monk463
I have just started to play the desert areas and I am becoming frustrated with the lack of 'players' versus people willing to pay some one to 'run' them through the game. So far I have had to find outposts and do the quest associated with them with hencies only (with t e exception of one pug).
Is it me...is the way to play the desert finding a path (guided or not) that u can run through without confronting the 'E' of PvE (environment). It is a little frustrating that stand in an outpost looking for a party and finding a group that wants to know what u charge for the run through or what u will pay them for the run through.
It is almost to the point that I will jump ahead to another campaign just to get hero's and go it alone. Like I said a short rant so I'll stop but I truly would appreciate opinions.

No rants in this forum, so be careful about that.
Pugging in the desert is a little difficult, so I would suggest getting some heroes or just using henchies, although it will take you a little bit longer.
There's not really a way you can run through the desert without encountering some sort of hostiles. Find a running build if you really want to move through it to get to the outposts.
Sorry man.

Or maybe find a good guild, and do it with guildies that want to help you. That is how I beat the desert the first time

The lack of peeps in the desert is probably due to the release of the other games and expansion pack and the lack of many quests actually in the desert area. It really is a bit of a stop gap area before you get to the S. Shiverpeaks. As for runners, well most people who are going there now are doing it with additional account characters, and simply can't be bothered to find the way to the outposts/missions and additionally can easily afford the gold required to get the runs.
The desert and a lot of the prophecies areas have been a bit neglected of late and as such people have lost interest in playing there much. The last real update to the area was the griffin nurf, when we got a new monk boss to replace 55 monk farming area! We need a few more quests/ideas to get the old areas going. HM in the desert is a breeze.
On the other hand, at least you are playing the game the way most of us did the first time and learning the hard way which of course, is the best way.
In addition, you have the advantage of these forums as well as guildwiki, which of course I and others never had when I did a lot of those missions with just me and some hench. Good luck though all the same

henchies are actually much better than 75% of pug. You might actually stand a higher chance of suceeding with henchies tbh

Yea most poeple doing the desert now have done it so many times they can afford a run/don't want to waste the time there. You don't see many players there actually doing anything because of the very few new players joining guild wars. That is not to say there aren't any but many are saying "O well nightfall is standalone got released later so it has to be better". Then they buy that gwen faction and prophecies last. By then they are good enough/don't care enough anymore where they just want to beat game get title and be done.

Nightfall is the bane of all PuG's outside of ''1337'' areas. :/
I suggest you get heroes.

My 2-cents: After you've gone through the Desert a couple of times, it tends to be a spot to just "get through" so you can get on with the Missions in the S Shiverpeaks and Fire Ring Islands. I mean, unless you're farming, there just isn't that much there!
MithranArkanere
The trouble in the desert is the unbalance btween the henchmen and the enemies.
In Factions and Nightfall, where the monsters start to be level 20, you get level 20 henchmen.
In Prophecies, where the monsters start being level 20, you get still level 16 henchmen.

I remember the desert was very difficult with henchies. Just go get heroes. I'd suggest EOTN, since you get Vekk and Ogden at level 20 straight away.

A good guild will prevent said frustration.

The desert is boring. I played through it once, I get run through it with any other chars.

Nobody does missions in Tyria anymore. All I ever see in local chat is "looking for run". Hardly ever see "LFG".
Ouchie
Try Looking for a group on weekends - I have never had a problem getting a group for a mission - side quests you probably won't find anyone to do with you though.

Oh well like I said ... short rant so I guess I'll do what needs doing, frustrate a little more then maybe buy next campaign and try heroes out for size. Just like to do things in order sorta <=== (unintentional rhyme) so I still want to wrap up Prophecies before another campaign. This is all kinda new to a guy my age

its more than feasible withe plain old henchies. with heroes its a cakewalk.

Heroes killed grouping in GW. Now it's a solo rpg.
Skyy High
There's people like the OP, and then there's people who hated the gates and such of NF and Factions. Can't please everyone.

Welcome to Dead Wars monk463. Announcing GW2 was a bad idea.

Such a small player base is spread out over so many different towns and outposts that there aren't very many places that you'll find people looking to actually pug with you. It's best just to get well acquainted with your henchmen and truck along till the end.

Not to mention the somewhat small playerbase is spread out over many outposts, as DE said.

First time I loaded into the Oasis I saw someone doing a desert tour for 2.5k, and I took it. Then, a guildy ran me through the missions. LOL.

Good players don't pug.
They've either quit or refused to leave their Guild halls. Like Trub.

i think that the PUGway died in factions. With the mass amount of sin failures. When you went in a town and all you saw was assassins you were kinda forced to learn how to Henchway it and then you got used to things actually being able to follow your commands and attack certain targets. and the monks weren't total assholes that would bitch if someone didn't follow their orders exactly and the monk got hit.
I really RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing hated monks back then they were always jerks in factions, maybe with good reason but when a PUg monk starts bitching that the other players are noobs and dont know the mission when after following the monks commands for 5 runs and it not working they try something different but the monk runs off and dies and then rages at the team because they refuse to rez him even though he just went wammo.
also SOJ smiters sittin in groups and claiming that monks are meant to nuke.
i have seen a few interesting monks in guild wars pre nightfall.
i know there were nice monks who were good it just seemed that every monk who had the tattoos and was a male was going to be a 5 year asshat

Yeah! There are not that many party calls but most of the players got cocky!
With all the cool armors, the titles, fancy items ...most of the people are full of vanity...this is mostly in the case of the kids who play... they act all RANKY and leet that they forget it's Guild Wars not Single Player Wars
When I was a freshling to the game often I got criticized and left into outposts by flaming party leaders.
Often when I find good parties is either finding older players or kids who still know what's the game about: Having Fun!

Heroes killed what was left of PUGs in places like this. Either get heroes or get a run.

I try to be nice to people when Im helping others but when you get some jerk in your group trying to hit on you and say how large his thing is...you get snippy really quick. >.> Then again, this is my fate for having a pair of breasts along with a love of video games.
Anywho, dealing with the desert. I soloed most of it in Katherine's young age and have now become a master at the necro transversal in Dunes of Despair. ^^" If you are doing that area, just learn to control henchmen. You will get the hang of it, and if you really need help, give me a ring but do tell me who you are. I get suspicious of strangers PMing me in the middle of a mapping run.

Anyways, back to topic. Pugs have been dead for a while, especially in Prophecies. In prophecies its mostly:
make a new character
get out of pre
get a run to droks, LA, and THK
level outside droks or in factions
guild group for THK and on, next campaign
It's rather sad. I hope they don't have any very fast way of leveling compared to the original leveling rate for GW2. I do commend you on wanting to do the whole campaign for Prophecies, but don't think you'll get many groups. I had to hench all of prophecies and factions because whenever I joined pugs, I failed miserably, mainly because of some necro or monk not knowing what s/he is doing.
I still say Full Guild Group>Heroes>Henchies>Pug.

Nah. It's your fate for using a female character with a sensible (female) name instead of standard MMORPG gibberish.
