Basically as in the title. I've been doing snowman dungeon nm runs to get treaure hunter. When I started I had 60% retention, and I found I kept about 3-4 out of the 5 chests for the most part. Now I have 63% retention, and I keep about 1-2 of the 5 chests. The only difference I can see is that at the moment I'm also working on my drunk title at the same time. I searched but couldn't find anything about this, and it doesn't say on wiki. I can't imagine that it would have an effect like that (well, in rl but not in gw sheesh)

Am I just having a run of bad luck (yes I realize it's 63% per chest and not an overall 63%) or am I stuck not drinking in order to retain more?

no being drunk does not affect retention. this is a case of the odds evening out, in my opinion.

actually, if you hold your breath for 10 seconds prior to opening the locked chest, and then only in/exhale after you use it, it increases your chance by another 25%. Don't ask how, the game just knows.

Honestly...being drunk does not affect anything in-game other than the title and the graphics, this is completely luck.

You forgot to mention that wearing a santa hat gives you 20% more chance to keep the lockpick.

Experience opening chest will give you more % to retain lockpicks

Sheesh, have you guys ever tried opening a door drunk?

Your character cant focus and misses the lock a few times... breaking the pick.

Its obvious isnt it?

Well, to tell teh truth, nope, being drunk openign ingame should not affect your retention rate (other than having a virtual full bladder)
