More Expansions for GW2?

Ok so I was thinking... since GW has no monthly fee, they pay conpensate for that by releasing new campaigns and an expansion. I think I remember reading somewhere that there will be no other expansions for the original GW. However, they are not shutting down the servers, in fact players are incouraged to go back and finish things they hadn't. (Hall of Monuments)

Now, knowing that, and knowing Arena Net plans to continue the tradition of having no monthly fee, couldn't we assume they would make more expansions for GW2 then we were accustomed to in the first? This would resonably pay for servers both for Gw and GW2.

Most probably. I really hope they are going to be >expansions< rather than campaigns. Separate campaigns broke gw1.

Yeah I agree with "expansions > campaigns" model... but the current system isn't all that bad.

I also think its a bit silly to be thinking of "additions" to a game that won't be released for at least another year or so... but yes, people can dream.

I would think so. The lore that ANet has given us about the setting of GW2 so far implies that two of the three continents are otherwise cut off, so it wouldn't make sense for all of the continents to be explorable from the start. That also opens up the possibility of unlocking travel to those continents in expansions, not to mention that there's the possibility of even more unexplored lands to venture into.

So yeah, I would expect there to be quite a few expansions for GW2. As to what exactly will be in them, that's all speculation for the time being.

Nah.
The biggest problem is that A.Net officially sucks at making end-game content (excluding FoW + I did have a few fun moments in the Deep (but that was mostly because of the people I went in with)) - which is what expansions are all about.
Plus campaigns brought us new classes which was quite vital for a game that is pretty much ALWAYS more of the same thing.

But then again - with the lack of info on GW2 BUT judging by what we know now - expansions MIGHT work more in favour of the new system.

QFT, gotta completely agree with this, although the new professions were not all that bad *I'm a sin fan(no not a naruto-fan, nor ninja fan), don't flame me!*.

Or...it can be a BIG game, one that combines all 3 campaigns. I think that would be fun, but probably means the price of GW2 would go up.

I dont think that expansions would exclude extra proffesions, if they wanted to add them, the game can just run a check on your account weather you own the expansion, then allow you to create the charracter in the original chapter, just like any else.

Well, you gotta admit that it was handy, that every game except for EotN was a stand-alone game.So didn't really need the other campains..That was probably the encouragement for the campaigns. But yeah,I prefer expansions, since I'll follow the game from the start.

Well, this being a topic on GW2 expansions, i would not delve into the design of end game content. I think we will just have to hope they have learned something wigh GW1.

Lets rather discuss what are the advantages of an expansion over a campaign, or vice versa?

What i meant by 'campaigns broke the game' is that they literally partitioned the game and its player base. And also with each being designed differently, mechanics from one campaign actually hurt the other campaign by mixing stuff that wasnt supposed to be mixed (IE how nightfall heroes affected both prophecies and factions).
Though this could as well happen with expansions, the chance is certalny less given that they have to put more work into compatibility when designing.

They could also make expansion stuff exclusive to the expansion, for example if heroes would be added, they would be usable in the expansion but NOT in the original chapter, because the original chapter wasnt designed for heroes. Thus keeping everythind neat and protected.

The second thing is that expansions could focus on high-end content, without the burden of creating a whole stand alone game, they could be smaller, but have more quality, and really offer more.

And so forth. I think ill add to this post more, later.

I wonder how additional content will be handled in GW2.

With GW1, they pretty much dug their own grave. Adding more skills each time, caused major headaches balance wise. Also the pressure to add more professions i think lead to not so great results. (non core professions r baed)

Plus each new campaiign needed the same old start area, lvl1-20 starting area. Alot of resources to reinvent the wheel, so to speak.

For pvp players, each new campaign really didnt bring much to the plate. Just a few new skills and professions? Not great value compared to what the pvers get.

I just hope GW2 becomes one huge map with added content instead of added areas!
