Can whether a pet is dire or hearty change after it reaches level 20? Thanks in advance.

Once a pet reaches Dire/Hearty/Elder, it will not change. Once a pet reaches level 20, it will not change.

So you have to get it right the first time? If it doesn't become what you want it to be, then you have to get a new pet and start over?

A pet changes once at level 15 and again at level 20. Once it is at level 20, it can NO be changed again. In short, you will need to get a new pet and retrain it all over.

All of my pets have evolved first around level 10-12 and again around level 15-17.

So by level 15-17 you'll know if you got the right pet.

It's typically 11 and 15 that it evolves. Sometimes it is a couple of levels late. Yes, if you don't get the evolution you want, you have to start over.
