I am unsure if this is the right place to post it but where ever I search it led me here.

The command /report they added.. well I finally think it's ridicules.
One of my Guild Members had a bit fun with some names for his Character, mind you he's always kept it clean and with his names I never seen any harm. (I would have told him if I thought it was inappropriate).
Anyhow, his names in question are/were as followed:

Ghost Farter as his Ritualist (for the spirits) He had this toon for almost a year (PvP) and no one ever said it was offensive, on the contrary people thought it was funny.

Fartz Ablazen as his Elementalist, same thing, people thought it was funny.(this toon is 4 month old, PvP)

The last one.

Corpz Crapper as his Necromancer. ( two week old toon, PvP)

I know by now you probably think, wow this guy is a freak.
He's just having fun and seriously didn't think any of it.. but no ANet for some reason put a ban on his account.
Granted it's only for 66 hours but still.
If I look at some of the names out there that seriously have sexual intention or what have you and those people don't get a ban on them. It just shows me that some people abuse the /report command because he probably beat them up in AB and decided to report him.

I'm posting this because I seriously want to find out what people think about those name..

Do you think those names or one of em is offensive in any way?

Thanks.
Tyr

P.S.

I really dont think they are offensive, but I guess, your friend pissed off someone who reported him. Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it and Anet would not give in.

He would have an opportunity to rename the "offensive" name at a later time without loosing his toon.

Unfortunately, we play in a world where inmature people and sometimes vengeful people also play. Tell your friend to try to make the best of it.

I agree the names seem fine. If any of them was seriously reported (see below) then it might be the Ne cro.

My guess, as Siirius stated, is that someone he dealt with got annoyed and reported him in revenge. Unfortunately because he did choose such colorful names, he provided a "legitimate" reason and Anet put the smackdown on him like they do anyone or anything else that gets /reported as being potentially offensive.

Personally I use either Baby Name websites (for cultural or ethnically accurate names) or I open a nice thick book at random, place my finger at random and choose at random ("8th word, 2nd syllable"). After I've got however many syllables I want, I see how I can mix them up to get something that works for me. Random syllables are unlikely to produce a bannable combination. Also, there is almost no chance that anyone else is already using the name!

It's only a 3 day ban, and then he'll get to rename them.

I don't know why they can report for offensive language and stuff when there's a language filter...

It's like anet is catering to the retards imo :/

It's because the existence of the filter does not give permission to swear to your heart's content. It does not give you the right to force your filth on people. Don't like their rules? Don't play.

Those names are in no way offensive...
The Necro's name might seem a bit offensive, but then again look at half of the things we have in real life these days that are publically displayed...

In the end there is a lesson. That lesson is people get offended far too easily, or they're just complete arseholes.

I'm a bit of a prude, but I don't find those names offensive. They may be considered to be in poor taste, but there's nothing in the EULA about that, otherwise there'd be people getting banned right and left for some of hte armor choices they make! ;p

Don't like the filth....leave on the filter. It is there for a reason. See the same thing you said can be turned around. If you can be banned for cursing then there is no reason for a filter. People that report for offensive langauge that don't have the filter on(assuming the filter would block it. Sometimes it won't anyway.) should get there filter auto locked on the highest setting forever in my opnion.

Btw on topic. Names aren't offensive someone just got there e-peen shortened and wanted to report.

I was expecting another person complaining about Dishonorable. Just FYI, it's always been possible to file a complaint about an offensive name through the website. The only way this is the fault of the "report" feature is that it makes it a lot easier.

I agree with the others, though. Probably someone was annoyed/angry for another reason and chose to report his name since they didn't have a better reason.

Those names are inappropriate and I would have reported him also. I usually report about 10-20 people a day as it is for something. Spamming trade in the general chat window the most common one. verbal abuse another and of course inappropriate names. Anet put the command in for a reason and it's working great as far as I'm concerned.

I report people who spam a message four or five times in less than twenty seconds. Been doing it since last January and I haven't had a complaint or problem at all.

I've said it before and I will again.
At some point in time anet will just give up and assign us all numbers for our characters and be done with the immature (and upset) people who report others because of .......(fill in the blank)....just because they dont like your name or you didnt give them something or---whatever. (yes some names are genuinely offensive, others a bit, and some you have to stretch prettttttyy far to come up with the connection).
OP I dont find those names offensive, and the guy who reported them probably didnt either---but was just mad and/or because he COULD.

I forsee there being no names in gw2---would make the whole thing a lot easier.

Again, the filter is not there for the option of ignoring your inability to
control your mouth. In fact, the EULA specifically states that your mouth should be stapled shut or suffer the consequences.

The filter is there in case someone lets something slip on accident. It is not a license to be vulgar.

Common misconception by those who have no class. You are forgiven.

As for the names, they are immature and pathetic. I would not have reported them, but I'm not sad to see them go.

Reporting for innappropriate name is childish, how is it gonna affect your gameplay? Do you really enjoy banning others for 3 days? if your answer is yes then sorry..but you don't even deserve to have an account.

And PvP offenders get a minute pro dishonorable point and can play PvE without any restrictions. PvE gets 4320 minutes of complete shutdown the very first time.

I don´t think that reporting is childish. I think that 3 day bans are way over the top as a first time punishment. Especially for such a small "offence".

This names are childish and scatological. They are "bathroom" jokes.
In all the years I've been living, I only found two people that find that kind of jokes offensive:
- Pedants
- Those with double moral (I'm not pointing a country, but you already know who).

If the ban were due to his names, he would have a 'name change' message, not a 66 hour ban.

Probably the names didn't help to his cause.

If if you to choose wich one may be more polite and wich one is likely to behave worse in chat, which one would you choose:
- John Smith
- Ai P On U
The one with the stupid childish names is more likely to be stupid and childish in-game.

So... it's better to chose names that do not mean anything... specailly anything stupid and childish.

Got that right. You 'know' there are immature people playing this game with a will to /report anyone for anything. So why did you choose a name which would possibly evoke such an action in the first place.

Whining about people who are whining about your name....pfff, now I'm whining too.
