hi
im new to the game and i've recently picked up guild wars factions and EotN in a bundle
i was wondering will i have to get nightfall to be able to use heroes?
and is it really necessary to get prophecy/nightfall to make a complete char that will function well

You will get access for the EOTN heros once you complete the needed requirements in the storyline. See under Eye of the North but not the ones listed under Nightfall.

Nope. Having either GW:EN or NF will give you access to heroes, as long as you have GW:EN for GW:EN heroes and NF for NF heroes.

You will be able to use and acquire any of the eotn heros. You, of course, will not be able to use them until you unlock them which wont happen until you to to eotn.
You char will be fully functional but be limited since you will only have access to Core, Factions, and EotN skills. You'll OK, but im guessing you will eventually want to purchase the other two chapters.

If you plan to PVP at all I would suggest getting them both. If you are going to stike to PVE you can get by with the campaigns you have.
IMO both prophecies and nightfall are far superior to factions as a game. But you get to experience terrific voice acting with factions so maybe it cancels that out

you will not be able to get Zenmai as the quest to get her is on the docks in nightfall. you can only access the gwen heros.
