I'm pretty sure nothing official has been said to imply the sword is coming back.

There's a rumor all the old HOD items are going to be craftable again at the HOD crafter. Many people probably panic after hearing this rumor and now they're trying to get some cash for their HOD items before they really do come back.

Even though it would be a good move in my opinion, I don't expect the HOD crafter to craft the old HOD items ever again.

Agreed. Even though it would be damn nice if they came back.

i think it would balance the game out nicely...since now theyre only available to an elite few.

i say let everyone have them

(of course, no heal/prot monks will ever use a wand again when hey can just use the sword + 20% enchant pommel)

A rumor in guildwars....NEVER.

I have noticed a lot of people selling the HoD in game now (or at least trying) and i guess it's due to this rumor doing the rounds.

Its just got the normal crafted skin.

It is a sword that used to be craftable in the Henge of Denravi.

It wasn't max damage or anything, but it came with an inherent +5 energy modifer on it.

People bought and used them as a Wand Alternative - you get 5 energy, its modable unlike wands, and you can hold an offhand with it unlike staves.

Once all the HoD weapons were removed the Sword got ot be the most popular and expensive.

All the weapons that were crafted there had Inherent modifers unique to only them (impossible mods otherwise) - so now their removed they are hot items.

In my opinion, 95% of the people playing Guild Wars have no idea what the hell they're doing and they're just go along with the crowd. HOD Sword isn't that great at all, there aren't that many builds that really need it, since in most builds (Protection monks for example) it would only be 2 Energy more then a collector's staff with maxed mods. The HOD items aren't that special in my opinion.

I agree. The gain is not that great to warrant 100k+

My guess is it's people reacting to the outright deletion of the SoA axe. They don't want to get caught with a useless long sword, even if the chances of that happening are only slightly better than the HoD sowrd coming back in the first place.

however...if you have the money for it (regardless of how insignificant) it's still better than a wand.

a gain is a gain.

MMS Dome is just jealous, he cant afford one :P
And from talking to devs/alphas, the general feeling is the Hod Sword is not comming back, so the price should contiue to rise.

The HoD sword is a piece of GW history --- hence the price. It's great for Bal's Aura users since you chase after enemies when you attack.

Well, if they took an item out of a game, there IS a reason. So, thinking logically, why would they put an -unbalanced- weapon back into the game?

That's like bringing back that SoA axe for no reason tomorrow..

The wands are +5 > 50, or some other condition, a +5e always sword is handier.

I like this axe someone gave me, it came with +25 hit points and I could mod it with another +29 (yeah sue me it's all I could afford). My cleric uses it now, the dmg isn't squat, but, it's +54 hit points nevertheless extra. I think they just fixed this after reading the last updates, but, it didn't state the name of the axe specifically. But, I still gots an axe with +54 hit points hehe.

That could be fixed if anet makes the energy mod a swordsmanship requirement [example: +5 energy (require 8 swordsmanship)]

I could start quoting everyone here and reply there but i won't.
Only thing I'd like to add is that there was a long thread about these items on gwonline.
1 of the arguments that got trashed there was that's this game is not supposed to be about luck (or items) but more about skill *cough* @ Kassad *cough*

And also what keeps baffling me is that people say 2 things about the sword that are inconsistend:
1: the hoD sword isn't that good...
2: The hoD sword is the best 1 handed caster item ever!!!11

Sry folks, can only be 1 of the 2

ok, end rant before i start typing any more!!

I am still a fan of the easy to get Firey Flame Spitter Axe

Its an axe with the following stats

Fire Dmg 6-16 (req 3)
Improves Skill recharge (10% chance)
Armor - 10 while attacking

This item is CHEAP to get, I think 3 scorched Lodestones (from the lvl 3 golem things in the ascalon area) And the collector can be found outside Serenity temple (south of there) only when your country has favor.

I use one with +29 Health for doing droks runs and one with enchantments last 19% longer on my monk, its good for Prot monks and 55 monks as well. But I find its the most useful on my runner.

Best of all it doesnt cost 300K

There seems to be a lot of hostility between those who have K's and those who don't. And those who do are labeled "elite." This sword and any item in the game is available to anyone who is willing to build up their in game gold. It isn't that hard. If I can do it anyone can. Maybe it's because I am a veteran of RPG games, like, Baldur's Gate, etc. I knew from playing these games that you kill as many enemies as possible and pick everything up to sell to merchants and traders. I started in pre-searing and I'm still doing it with the 2 characters I've created. I saved all my craft materials thinking that I needed them for armor and it wasn't until I got to Drok's that I realized I didn't need them and that people were willing to buy them at a greater price than I could get at the merchant. I still save all my materials and then sell them to other players. This adds up. I always buy keys and even though most of the items I get suck, I get an occaisional great item that I can sell or salvage a perfect mod. I just did this with a perfect sword pommel that I could sell almost immediately for 50-70K.

The game offers at least 20 ways to make money. I started farming by accident because I got tired of doing quests and missions. I took a bunch of henchies out 1 day and started killing enemies and opening chests. My initial goal was to uncover areas on my map where I hadn't been. It was great and I took in about 2K. I didn't even know there was a term for it, "farming," unril I discovered this web site for myself.

It feels great to save up and buy a really great item or 15K Dragon armor. It's just like real life. lol. Again, anyone can do it. So, we can all be "elite" players.
