It makes it harder for both melee and casters.some objects attract all agro. I'd suggest it's a game mechanic and leave it at that. It's nice to have variety! There are plenty of quest where the item goes into your inventory. |
Cool.
An easy way to solve this might be to allow heroes to pick up an item like that by targeting the item and clicking the target command on the hero panel. The item would then be dropped through a forced drop.
If your team is good enough, you might not even have to worry about dropping it all the time.

Can Warriors not sprint when carrying some thing? maybe they can't use shouts? I guess if they are trying to eat what they are carrying.
So yes, they can cast, but it still makes it harder for either.
Outside the box....
The only item that has to be carried that can't be dropped is the Urn thing in D'Allasio Seaboard. It can be done after clearing the path though. That takes longer, but is still quite easy. Since you can easily click the 'Drop' button and use your weapon, I see no problem with this. It may make things more annoying, but not more difficult. And since there is no aggro magnet associated with held items anymore, it won't change how monsters react to you.

The only place where I would agree is D'Allesio Seabed. As a Ranger, Paragon, Warrior or Dervish ('Sins can cast, so there!) it's painful. Ranger you can go Trapper, though.
@Unreal Havoc -- You're right in a sense about people being useless in melee or paragons, but they can do something still just to a very limited extent.

Picking up and dropping isn't viable in some missions where you need to charge the item you are carrying.
What we need is a way to hand over bundle items (but not Ritualist items, of course).
That way we could:
- Hand over bundles like the Spear of Archemorous or the Urn of Saint Viktor without triggering the effect.
- Hand over the Offering for Melandru without losing it.
- Allow H/H to take bundles from players and give them back to them.
Heroes already have the 'drop item' button.
How would this work?
- 'Use/Talk/Double click' on party member.
- Character moves to party member.
- Popup message appears: "What to hand over item" (Will not appear if your bundle is a Ritualist item, so you cannot hand over those)
- Click yes,and the item is given to the party member. And then, the next step depends on what is the party member:
- A human player: Can do like you, 'use' another party member to hand it over again or just drop it.
- A Hero: The Hero leader can 'talk' to the hero to get the bundle back without confirmation dialog, or click the 'drop' button in the hero panel to make the hero drop the bundle.
- A henchman: Any party member can 'talk' to the henchman to get the item.
That should do.

This is so full of fail. Oh yeah, they loose 'faster cast / +1'. Warriors loose +30hp and +16 armor.
