My computer was doing fine for about a year when i got the game. Suddenly, it experienced lag in GW, which i didnt expect that to be much of a problem. Unfortunately, it has been transferred into my computer itself and not GW. My computer has a threat of crashing permanently and i would gladly like your help in figuring out what is wrong here.
Here is a list of specifics in my computer summary:
Mainboard :Intel D915GAG
Chipset : Intel i915GL
Processor :Intel Pentium 4 524J @ 3066 MHz
Physical Memory : 1024 MB (2 x 512 DDR-SDRAM )
Video Card :ATI Technologies Inc Radeon 9250 (RV280)
Hard Disk :WDC (200 GB)
Network Card :Intel Corporation 82562EZ PRO/100 Ethernet Controller
Operating System :Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2
Here's some specific processor information (i think the problem has something to do with this):
Support : Socket 775 LGA
Let me know if you need any additional information. I would like this fixed before my computer permanently crashes. This problem began in Guild Wars.
Crashing and Bashing.. More than GW now

do u do normal computer maintenance, (defrag, disk cleanup, virus scans, adware/spyware scans, ect.) because if not there is a chance that your issues are not gw related

Also check the temperatures inside your computer if your video card and CPU have temp sensors.
You should also check for dust inside your case, a clogged fan or heatsink should explain the crashes if they are overheating related.

I did a complete virus scan the day after GW started to freeze. I'm pretty sure that before it was just GW, but now i'm afraid that a virus attacked my computer....I was hoping someone in guru was/is a computer tech who might be able to solve this. It seemed that my processor has been giving out more energy than it should for programs, such as GW... as i said this has never happened to me before, and i'm afraid it will begin to affect the main computer programs, like the programs that run the computer itself (motherboard, hardrive, etc.). Thanks for the suggestions, i'll see what i can do.

Have you run any of the maintenance as suggested, aside from antivirus/spyware scans?

Sorry about that, i did try to defrag it... it didnt work too well, but it seemed to help a little bit.
EDIT: the max size of the hardrive is 200gigs and has 132gigs of free space, which is alot. Thanks for the defrag download, i'll try it out.

Download and install CCleaner, then run a defrag. Also, what is the max size of your hard drive and the amount of free space you have?
If you prefer to use another defrag utility, I recommend AusLogics Disk Defrag.
