I'm baaaack! Finally got this thing going again! I've made a few changes since the previous issue and am inserting a new interview section, took out the horoscopes, etc. As for the flamers, I'm not going to let you stop me. I'd hoped the mods would have cleared those nasty threads out by now but since they didn't I'll just have to overwrite them with more issues. And as for the interview part, if you would like to be included, don't hestitate to let me know. But be sure to have some sort of "story" or something going on, like a video series, a background story of your character like you recently married a Norn or something, etc. No website or forums up for this one yet but perhaps someday there will be. Enjoy!

Also, I started this clear back in May so some of the information may not be as up-to-date (like the Destroyer weapons), but rather than start over, I just left it in there.



COMBAT
Fight in Style!
One thing about combat that always seems to remain constant – it’s a dirty process. Face it, if you’re in combat, you’re bound to get filthy with dirt, blood, and the gods know what else. But that doesn’t mean you can’t go out there and fight in some sort of style!
If you want a great weapon that you can customize clearly to your liking and still look stylish, then go no further than Slayers’ Exile in the Far Shiverpeaks! There, Balthor Coalforge can craft you a Destroyer weapon for the price of 5 platinum, 100 iron ingots, 250 granite slabs, 10 Onyx gemstones, and 10 diamonds.
Though these weapons are pricy, they will pay off in the end. Owners are saying they are receiving “large amounts of respect” since they’ve purchased their Destroyer weapons.
If Destroyer weapons aren’t your style, then there is another option – Tormented weapons. These weapons, however, are much more expensive and can range from 100k to 50 globs of ectoplasm in price. Besides buying these weapons from others, the only way you can obtain one is by trading an Armbrace of Truth for one of these weapons from the Deacon of Whispers in the Domain of Anguish. The Armbrace alone is a lengthy process to obtain, for you can only get one of these from a seller, the Spirit of Truth in exchange for 60 Anguish gemstones (15 of each type), or a random reward from a Coffer of Whispers. However, many citizens are claiming that they prefer these weapons to the Destroyer ones.
As was mentioned before, you can customize the weapons to your liking. You can add specific modifications and inscriptions to make them unique and aid you in battle. And, if you’re looking for a weapon that can be placed in your Hall of Monuments, Destroyer and Tormented weapons are the way to go, as they are the only ones that can be placed in your Monument of Valor.

Love and Domination: A Big Difference
There is a strong difference between someone who’s loving and someone who’s dominating.
More and more women are coming forward saying that the men in their lives tend to be very controlling, but they all assumed that was their way of showing their love. But these women are very wrong.
A man who dominates your every move is not only very unloving, but he’s also abusing you. Abuse doesn’t have to be physical; it can be emotional as well.
“A man can come off as loving because he seems to genuinely care about you,” says psychologist Warner Whisperwind. “He’ll seem attractive to you because he knows exactly what he wants and he’ll do whatever it takes to get it. What few women realize is that what a man like this truly wants is control. He wants to know that he’s the dominator and the aggressor and you’re basically his prey. As such, he won’t hesitate to put you down emotionally in order to make you what he considers to be ‘better’. Dominating someone else is a form of emotional abuse, and emotional abuse can turn physical.”
Warner’s speech got many women thinking about their own relationships, and several have gotten out of them because of it.
“I was too afraid to do anything about the problem before,” says Shaaka Lastinghope. “But after hearing all the signs of an abusive partner, I realized that I was in danger. Emotional abuse can turn physical if you don’t get out fast enough.”
This has become the case for several women. They were emotionally abused, but in the hopes that things would improve, they’d remain with their partners. Some partners even apologized and made amends by buying gifts and other things, and the women generally thought that their partners were sorry. But then the abuse turned physical and some women have even ended up dead.
“This type of abuse doesn’t only come from men to women,” says Warner. “It can be the other way around and even in same-gender relationships. Dominating relationships are everywhere, but what matters the most is how you react to them.”
If you think you’re in an abusive relationship, don’t hesitate to contact authorities, or at least talk to someone you can genuinely trust. Remember, you never fight alone.

HEALTH
Scary Skinny
Have you ever looked around at all the people surrounding you and thought, “I wish I was that skinny” or “Gods, I’m so fat! Why can’t I look like that?”? If your answer is yes, you’re not alone.
In today’s society, the majority of people who make up our world are skinny and “in shape.” Some even believe that someone who’s overweight or not skinny is ugly. But the truth of the matter is, being skinny doesn’t mean being healthy.
Some may find skinny people more attractive than obese people, but most people nowadays are focusing on “health” rather than “weight.” Studies have shown that skinny people are more likely to become unhealthy than obese people. This is due to the fact that, according to research and polls, people who are skinny got that way due to eating disorders.
There may be some truth to that statement, but this isn’t to say that every single skinny person you see has a problem eating and then keeping their food down, or eating at all. Some people are skinny simply because they can’t gain weight due to high metabolism. They can eat and eat and eat and still not gain weight. Some people may consider someone like this to be lucky or blessed, but in reality, they are as much at risk for health problems as an obese person.
The bottom line is skinny people aren’t necessarily healthy despite the way they look. You should accept who you are and what you look like. If someone else doesn’t, then that person isn’t even worth your time.

BEHIND THE SCENES
Tender Wolf and Her "Future" Experience
Tender Wolf was sent forward in time to the year 2008 AE, and returned a few months ago. It was recently confirmed that she is also expecting her first child. Guild Wars Extraordinaire gets an exclusive interview with her where all your questions are answered.

GWE: How did you get sent to the future in the first place?
TW: I was going after the evil Asura genius known as Macc, and there was this odd shaped object in the middle of his lab. When I approached him, he turned and saw me, and the object began to move. The next thing I know, I was waking up in another world.

GWE: What were your first thoughts when you found out where you were?
TW: I didn’t know right away that I was in the future. At first, I thought I was in an entirely different world. Everything that I ever knew was gone. I saw the device behind me, but that’s the only thing that looked familiar. There were people walking around in odd clothes, strange wagons were moving across the roads (I later found out that these are called “cars”), and lights were coming from an oval-shaped item instead of fire. I was very frightened at first.

GWE: How did you overcome your fear?
TW: It was difficult. I tried asking various people for help but they just stared at me funny, like there was something wrong with me. Of course, I was in my elite druid armor. But still, no one was willing to help me. But then there were three men that saw me and tried to force themselves on me. I was able to fight them off, but I heard a voice calling behind me that was saying for the men to leave me alone. The voice belonged to who would become my only ally and friend in this world, Isaac Silverbane.

GWE: So Isaac was the only one that believed your story?
TW: Well, he asked where I was from, and I told him that I was from Tyria, but everything looked odd. He seemed to know right away that I wasn’t from that time. He asked me if I knew what year it was, and when I told him 1072 AE, he nodded and kindly corrected me by saying that it was actually the year 2008. Then he seemed to hesitate before asking if I was from the guild wars time. When I told him that I was, he offered to take me to his home. I really had nowhere else to go, so I went.

GWE: When you went to Isaac’s home, what were you thinking? Were you afraid that he couldn’t be trusted?
TW: I was slightly afraid of that, but I kept thinking that he knew I was from this time, so why would he hurt me? How could he possibly even know that I was from this time? I didn’t think it could have just been a lucky guess. When we got to his house, he showed me several books he had on the guild wars. During that time, the guild wars didn’t exist. They were things that children learned in school (which is far different than what we learn in these times). While Isaac was in school all day (he called this college), I would read the books and write in a diary that he gave me belonging to his sister.

GWE: When Isaac returned from this “college”, as you call it, what did you do?
TW: At first we just got to know each other, but after a while, it was obvious that, even though I was happy to have an ally, I didn’t belong there and wanted to come home. So Isaac agreed to help me return home. I told him that the object I landed next to was positively the one used to teleport me here in the first place. And I’d managed to grab Macc’s notes off a nearby table right before I was sent here. Isaac was very intelligent, so we studied Macc’s notes, as well as some things that Isaac learned in his studies since new things had been discovered by that time, and compared them. Finally, we were able to find the right way to send me back home.

GWE: But you didn’t come back alone. Isaac came with you, did he not? Why is that?
TW: Yes, Isaac did return with me. I’ll be honest, while I was in his time, he and I fell deeply in love. We didn’t want to be apart, so he said that he’d come back with me if it was possible. We weren’t even sure that it would work, but luckily it did.

GWE: Why did Isaac choose to come back with you instead of you staying there with him?
TW: I would have been content either way, though still sad if I couldn’t see my family and friends again. But Isaac had always been very interested in the guild wars, and he was very excited at the possibility of being able to experience it firsthand. You see, he was fiercely loyal to his studies, but in that time, that didn’t make someone smart; it made them a “nerd”, as he referred to it. And in that time, those nerds were considered outcasts of society and the center of jokes. He was going to college to make himself successful in life, but he told me that it wouldn’t be worth it in the end because he’d be alone, especially after he met me because he’d never find anyone else like me.

GWE: Isaac did manage to come back with you, as you said. How did your family and friends react to this, and what were their reactions when they heard where you’d been all this time?
TW: My parents were, and still are, very happy that I’m back safely. Several people found my story hard to believe, but I think they’ve gotten used to the idea since Isaac knew of so many things that don’t exist in our time that did in his, and you could tell he wasn’t making them up because he explained them so well. He was like a scholar. As for how my family and friends felt about him in general, I must say that my parents were happy that I’d found true love just like they did, and my friends were happy to have me back and are always eager to hear more about my adventures.

GWE: What was your first reaction to the news when you heard that Isaac had been killed?
TW: I was in shock. I just ran away in denial, thinking this couldn’t have happened to me. And why Isaac? He was a good person, someone who had his whole life ahead of him. I had my parents and Gwen to lean on, but so many times I wished I could join him in the Mists. But I knew that if I did that, it wouldn’t solve anything and I’d end up in the Underworld instead. I must wait to be reunited with him.

GWE: You recently told the public in your newspaper that you are pregnant. How are you and others reacting to this?
TW: I was showing the symptoms and I had the feeling that perhaps I was expecting a child. I confided in Gwen since I had been residing with her at the Eye of the North and she told me it would be a good idea to tell my parents. I was so frightened of how they would react. They’re very overprotective of me and I was sure they wouldn’t be thrilled about the idea of me having a child before I was married. They seem to have accepted it and be handling it well, but I feel that under the surface they’re worried about how I’ll raise this child with no father.

GWE: When is your child expected, and have you thought of any names yet or where you’ll live?
TW: I believe it will arrive sometime in February, since this happened in May when I was sent forward in time. I’ve been thinking of names, and I was sure that if the child was a boy, I’d name him Isaac after his father. But now I believe that will be too painful because I still miss Isaac very deeply every day. I’ve thought of some other names, but I’d rather keep them a secret until I know what the baby will be. I'll most likely live with my parents, though.

GWE: Rumor has it that you have a poll in progress for citizens to guess the gender of your child. Is this true?
TW: Yes, it is true. There will be no prize for guessing the correct gender, but I’m very curious to know what others think.

GWE: Back to the subject of Isaac, you said that your parents could be angry inside about you having a child out of wedlock. Did you see wedding bells in the future for you and Isaac?
TW: At the time of his death, I considered us to be focusing on his assassin studies and we hadn’t really discussed it. But I’m sure that if he had lived, we would have tied the knot someday.

GWE: How do you think Isaac would react to knowing you were carrying his child?
TW: Because of how kind and sensitive he was, I’m sure that he would have been thrilled and probably even insisted on postponing his training so that he could take care of me. While that is a sweet thought, I would undoubtedly have insisted he continue his training that he wanted so badly.

GWE: Do you have any final comments?

Embarassing Moments
I was sharpening my sword for training one day when the girl I have a crush on walked up with her hammer. I thought I’d show off my great swordsmanship so I hurried to get my sword sharpened so I could get started.
Well, I wasn’t paying enough attention because the next thing I knew, my sword slipped and sliced my finger! It literally fell right off and blood started gushing everywhere. To top it off, the girl was watching the whole time and she gets very weak at the sight of blood. She got so weak, in fact, that she bent over and threw up right then and there!
As if that weren’t bad enough, she was carrying the hammer to her boyfriend who was standing nearby! She never had any intention to fight in the first place! – Alix

I’m not used to wearing heals, but I really wanted to impress my boyfriend who loves girly girls. So I went out and bought some heals and got them as high as I could stand them. I practiced walking in them and only tripped twice. I figured I’d be all right, so I wore them to our date.
Well, little did I know that my boyfriend had planned on taking me dancing that night! So there I was, trying to dance and keep my balance at the same time, when all of a sudden, I completely lost my balance, tripped, fell into my boyfriend, and we both tumbled on the floor sprawled in a very suggestive position. Needless to say, I returned the shoes and never went for heels again! – Kasumi

I play the flute and I believe it’s one of my best talents. One day I decided to play it for a talent show and prove to everyone that I’m not such a nerd who can’t do anything and that I’m really good at something. So I got onto the stage and started to play, but no sound came out! Everyone laughed as I blushed and tried again. Once again, no sound.
Finally, after about five times of trying to play, I figured something was caught in the flute so I blew on it really hard. That was a big mistake, because it turns out my little brother had stuck a gob of his candy apple in there as a joke and it flew out and hit one of the judges right in the head! Not surprisingly, I didn’t win a prize. – Ana

I wanted to take my girlfriend somewhere really special for our two-year anniversary, so I settled on the Far Shiverpeaks because she really likes winter and hadn’t been there. But unfortunately, within a day or two of being up there, I caught myself a cold because I hate cold weather, but I went anyway because I wanted to make things special for my girlfriend.
Even though I felt lousy, I went to watch the Norn fighting tournament with my girl and we were both cheering everyone on. But as I was cheering, I started coughing really bad and hacked up a huge chunk of mucus. It flew right into the arena during the tournament and everyone looked to see where it had come from. I tried to hide, but it was obvious that it was from me since I’d been coughing the entire time anyway. - Matthieu

COMBAT
What's Really Behind Alliance Battles?
Far longer than anyone can remember, the Luxons and Kurzicks have been raging war on one another. Some say it’s merely to control the land while some say it’s just a hobby. But some believe that there is much more to it than that.
Some have dug deep into the past, finding stories of a time when the Luxons and Kurzicks were at peace with one another. The Kurzick hero Saint Viktor and the Luxon champion Archemorous killed Shiro Tagachi over 200 years ago with his own blades, and they were the first killed when the Jade Wind hit. It appears that when Shiro died and Viktor and Archemorous were killed, the Luxons and Kurzicks began wondering if perhaps one killed the other. This is how the wars began raging stronger than ever throughout Cantha.
But is this really true? Did the Kurzick hero and Luxon champion slay one another, or did they truly both die honorably after killing Shiro the Betrayer? And most importantly, will this war between the rival factions ever end?

Awesome Obsidian Armor
With all the armors and outfits available for us to wear today, the possibilities are limitless. Nevertheless, people with armor from the Fissure of Woe, called Obsidian armor, seem to get the highest amount of respect.
Though Obsidian armor is in no way “better” than any other armor, the majority of the people in our world strive to obtain it and prefer it over all other armors they may own. They say that there is something about it that makes them feel better about themselves, and some even call themselves “superior” to others for owning it.
But why Obsidian armor? Clearly it’s because of the fact that it is the most expensive armor one can own, requiring Obsidian shards and globs of ectoplasm to craft. And before it can be crafted, you must complete several tasks in the Fissure of Woe as well. This armor is so highly sought after that some citizens have purchased multiple sets just for the sake of saying that they can afford it.
“It’s ridiculous, the number of people parading around with multiple sets of Obsidian armor,” says citizen Chutney Bigmouth. “Congratulations, you’re filthy rich. Can’t you find something better to spend it on than multiple sets of the most expensive armor and still have some left over? Rich people like that should be given their money to charities and to people who really need it instead of throwing it away like that.”
However, some citizens say that while Obsidian armor may be the armor that many seek, they have no desire to obtain it. Many say it’s because of the cost not being worth it even if they can afford it, while others say that it’s “downright ugly.” Various professions have different armor that can be crafted by the Eternal Forgemaster, but some say that the armor available to them is horrible. Still, there are some citizens who purchase the armor regardless of its appearance just to say that they have it.
So is Obsidian armor the best armor? No, it is not. But it is definitely the most respected and most wanted.

Chilly and Cool
Winter has arrived! And with it, the promise of snow and temperatures dropping! Be sure to bundle up in fur to stay warm, and wear blue to represent the cold! However, with Wintersday approaching, colors such as red and green can also be seen. So get ready to celebrate the holidays and winter cheer with the colors of the season!


LOVE
Forbidden Love
If someone forbids love, does that make the desire stronger? This is a question that several people have been pondering over for quite some time, particularly teenagers.
Studies show that when a parent forbids their child from seeing the person they claim to be in love with, the child has an even stronger urge to go see that person, even if it means defying their parents.
“For some, defying their parents gives the teenagers a feeling of freedom and danger,” says Oliver Ravencrest, teenage counselor. “At the tender teen age, when people are first discovering love, nothing else matters to them but that one special person. And they’ll go to any odds and any means necessary to see that person, even if it means defying their parents or anyone else who cares about them.”
Some teens insist that their parents just “don’t understand how they feel”, and become intent on proving them wrong when they claim that what their child is feeling isn’t love. However, studies show that teenagers return home most of the time because they realize their parents were right.
This is not always the case. There are some citizens who were teenage sweethearts that are now happily married. These couples defied everyone to be together, and they don’t regret it. Juno and Dauntra Dawndusk are prime examples of this.
“My parents were very wealthy,” Dauntra said, “and they didn’t believe that Juno was suitable for me. So we ran away together and started a family. It was the best thing we could have done.”
However, for teen Izzy Windem, he realized almost too late that his parents were right in trying to prevent him from marrying an older girl when he was 17. “I was at the age when I thought I knew everything,” Izzy, now 21, said. “But I realized that, though I wasn’t as young as some teens who were falling in love, or thinking they were, I still wasn’t ready to take on the responsibility of being a husband and a father. The girl I met was just so different, but I realized it was curiosity and friendliness I felt toward her, not true love.”
These statistics don’t focus only on teenagers, however. Several adults, such as those who live with their parents and who are in great power, have similar problems. “In some families, it’s a custom that a daughter’s husband his chosen by her parents,” Oliver says. “And this occurs when she turns 18. Some believe that if a woman isn’t married before she turns 19, no man will ever want her. And the man has to be someone that the parents approve of. Men are free to choose whom they please. It’s the thrill of the chase that gets teenagers and adults alike fired up about the ones they love.”
However, despite these results, parents are still hesitant about allowing their teenagers to go out and date whoever they want without some say in it just for the fear of them wanting to do so more. Even adults have this problem. Regardless, it seems that if a halt is put on the romance, it just makes it grow stronger.
“Hardships are part of every day life,” Oliver adds, “and sometimes a forbidden love makes it grow even stronger and fills the lovers with a sense of accomplishment. As they say, true love can conquer all obstacles.”

HEALTH
Smokin'!
Scholars and doctors alike have been very concerned regarding the high amounts of alcohol that are consumed in our world. This seems to occur most rapidly at holiday and community events.
Scholars warn citizens that excessive alcohol consumption can, and most likely will, result in intoxication, which can cause one to see illusions and could even cause alcohol poisoning. Some citizens have even been known to drink so much that they died from the consumption.
Now, a new health risk has emerged. It is in the form of tobacco, which is actually a leaf that can be smoked or chewed. Tobacco that can be smoked has been placed inside what some are calling cigars or cigarettes for the smaller versions. Some citizens say that it relieves their stress and tension by using tobacco, whether it be smoked or chewed.
Experts warn about alcohol use as well. Smoking can cause lung cancer and yellow, decayed teeth while chewing tobacco can rot your gums and teeth.
Whether one decides to drink, smoke, or chew, it is very unhealthy and the price is not cheap. Doctors urge all citizens to think carefully before they take up any of these habits.

BEHIND THE SCENES
Survivors of the Charr
We were able to catch up with two heroes who were both prisoners of the Charr and made it out alive. They are known as Gwen and Anton and both were happy to share their stories.

GWE: Anton, Gwen. Welcome and thank you for joining us!
Anton: Thank you for having us.
Gwen: Our pleasure.

GWE: Let’s get started. First of all, why don’t you tell us about your experiences prior to the Searing in Ascalon?
Anton: When the Charr attacked Ascalon, I made a deal with the invaders in return for the lives of my friends and family. I provided Rend Ragemauler useful information. I was caught in my traitorous actions, and that is why I was in prison when Surmia fell.
I was a prisoner of Surmia awaiting execution. Many curse the Charr for invading Ascalon, but it was a blessing to me. Without it, I would have been unable to escape Surmia and flee north.
Gwen: I was just a young girl when the Charr took my home from me. What I remember most is the sky turning red and orange and then I was captured. I didn’t know what happened to my family or my home, but I felt in my heart that everything was gone.

GWE: How did you escape your imprisonment?
Anton: The Searing freed me from Surmia, so I was able to flee north then. After I fled north, I spent many years raiding the Charr until I was captured. I was rescued by Captain Langmar of the Ebon Vanguard. For once in my life, I’m using my assassin skills for the betterment of more people than myself.
Gwen: I spent the next six years of my life as a prisoner. The Charr used other captives like myself as entertainment. I managed to escape by outsmarting them one day. I was to fight a huge siege devourer though I had no armor to protect myself. There were several rocks strewn about as well as a pillar that looked unsupportive. I threw some rocks at the pillar and it not only collapsed on top of the devourer, but it broke open the doors behind it. I managed to flee into the ruins and escape the Charr.
Once I was inside the ruins, I found some journals that had mesmer skills in them. I managed to learn my skills through those. I also encountered some ghosts who had been killed by the Charr and helped them find peace.
It was a long trek but I managed to get out of the ruins and escape to where the Ebon Vanguard was waiting in the mountains.

GWE: After you both became a member of the Ebon Vanguard, what happened?
Anton: I acted as the scout for the Vanguard and I felt strong loyalty toward them. I never wanted to betray them.
After Surmia fell, I returned to my village to find bodies stacked as high as huts. I was a fool and a traitor. I paid for my mistakes with the blood of my family and of my friends. I needed to seek vengeance for those who died because of my folly. Then one day I heard that Rend Ragemauler was in Sacnoth Valley. It was his fault that I had lost everything.
I managed to find the scoundrel and I showed him the three blades I carry upon my back for the three things I lost – my family, my village, and my honor. Upon killing Ragemauler, I realized that I could not return to the Ebon Vanguard. They did not know the truth, and I hope that in time I can atone for my sins. Langmar couldn’t have a soldier who went off on his own missions. It was with some regrets that I resigned from the Ebon Vanguard, but I feel that I accomplished what needed to be done.
Gwen: I was rescued by the Ebon Vanguard and they admitted me into their ranks. They are my family now and I am fiercely loyal to them. Captain Langmar sometimes hesitates before letting me go out due to my deep hatred of the Charr, so I command the Eye of the North in her absence. But I still feel a strong devotion to my new family.

GWE: Anton, there have been rumors that, though you resigned from the Ebon Vanguard, you are still very loyal to Captain Langmar and indebted to her. Rumor has it that should she die, the last anyone will see of you is a sheathed blade vanishing into darkness? Would you care to elaborate on that?
Anton: Many seem to think that Langmar and I are, or were, romantically involved. This is completely false. Langmar is like a sister to me, someone I trust and look up to. After everything that happened in my past, if Langmar had died I would undoubtedly have blamed myself. But still, Langmar and I were strictly comrades and are now merely friends.

GWE: Gwen, is it true that when the Destroyers emerged, you were reunited with an old friend that you had prior to the Searing and that you also had to work with a Charr, your arch enemy, in order to save your comrades?
Gwen: Yes, that is true. A traveler came to the Eye of the North when I was in charge, and she looked so familiar. I was sure I’d seen her somewhere before. When she showed me an old flute in her possession, I knew it was my dear friend Tender Wolf, whom I had given that flute to years ago.
Tender Wolf was my best friend as a child. I never knew what happened to her either. She’d changed so much since I’d last seen her, but I could tell it was her.
When she learned of the missing Vanguard, she agreed to help right away. With her help, we managed to find and rescue the Vanguard. The downside was that we had also had to assist a Charr who calls himself Pyre Fierceshot rescue his warband because without them, we would have been unable to locate the Vanguard.
Much as I wanted to kill the beast, Tender Wolf convinced me that in order to save my people, we had to let him live. But the important thing is that the Vanguard was rescued.
After we rescued my comrades, Tender Wolf took me down to the Underworld, where I saw my mother again for the first time in six years. I was able to say goodbye to her properly, and for that I am eternally grateful.

GWE: Speaking of Tender Wolf, Gwen do you have any comments on her announced pregnancy? And any predictions on what it will be, perhaps?
Gwen: I’m very happy for Tender Wolf. I feel so sorry for her that Isaac was killed in combat training before even knowing that Tender Wolf was carrying his child, but I know that he’ll be watching from the Mists. I’d like to say congratulations to my best friend as well and I, as well as many others, am looking forward to seeing the baby.
I can’t say for sure what the gender will be. I have no predictions for it, because the gods will make the baby what they desire.

GWE: Speaking of love and relationships, Anton you told us that you and Langmar were not romantically involved? But what of the rumors of a mysterious young woman who’s been seen following you? It seems she was a part of the Vanguard until you resigned, and now the two of you are traveling together.
Anton: In all honesty, I have no comment. However, I will say that the girl helped me to avenge my family and friends, so I offered my services to her in addition to resigning from the Vanguard. Langmar encouraged this.

GWE: So you’re denying that you have any romantic feelings toward this young woman? Could you perhaps tell us her name?
Anton: I’m afraid not, for we aren’t ready for this to be out in public yet. All I can say is that she is a dear friend who I owe greatly for helping me seek vengeance.

GWE: That about wraps up the interview. Would either of you like to give any closing comments?
Anton: Thank you for allowing me to be here today. I’m honored that I was chosen to be interviewed.

I had just broken things off with a girl who was extra needy, and I was feeling a little guilty about it. I wished I could just talk to her to see if we could make things better again. But when I went to talk to her, I saw her making out with another guy! No wonder she hardly cried when I told her we should see other people! Either she’d found someone very fast (this was two days later) or she’d had him on the side the entire time! So I was going to back away and act like nothing had happened. Only before I decided to do that, I gasped with shock. But as I gasped, I belched very loudly! They turned around and saw me standing there, red-faced. I bolted the heck out of there! – Xyros

During training one day, we were assigned partners. I’m training to become a monk and I had to heal my partner while he fought with the opposing team. Unfortunately, I cast a spell wrong and we lost the duel. My partner was a great guy and was totally cool about it, but he jokingly had to say that if that had been a real battle I’d be screwed. I told him, “Oh you’re so gay!” in a teasing way. He laughed and said, “I know, thank you!” I didn’t think anything of it until the next day, when I returned early to prepare my spells. I saw my partner in a very compromising position with another guy! I actually fell over on top of a practice dummy! My partner and the other guy looked over and cracked up. Now I understand what he meant when he took my calling him gay as a complement…Training was pretty awkward for a while! – Carmelina

I was crazy about this girl was going to propose to her. I bought a diamond in Vabbi and had a crafter turn it into a ring. I told my girl to meet me at our special place the next day. She did, and I got down on one knee and went to present the ring to her. Unfortunately, it had rained the day before and the ground was muddy and slippery. My knee slipped and I fell right into the water on the bank! As if that weren’t bad enough, the ring flew out of my hand and went to the bottom of the pond. That was 20k down the drain! My girl laughed about it and said she’d marry me even without a ring, but I still felt awful! There are ten professions that a fighter can study, but some ponder the inevitable – are some professions superior to others?
Scholars wonder if someone who is a paragon, for instance, is stronger and better in battle than a warrior. Or perhaps ritualists have a better means of healing allies with their summoned spirits to aid them than monks do.
Some citizens argue, however, that there is no superior profession; it is all a matter of personal achievement. One’s skills does not make them superior to someone else, either of the same profession or of a different one. It’s how you use the skills that truly matters.

Who Wears Short Skirts?!
Looking at citizens, we see so many different types of people. But as we see male paragons, ritualists, and dervishes, it sometimes makes us think of one question – are they really wearing skirts, and if so, why?
Despite the crude comments that males of these professions seem to receive, they say they have no problem in wearing their profession’s proper attire. In fact, some even claim that what they’re wearing aren’t skirts at all, but skorts; that is, a combination of a skirt and shorts. Are these male ensembles skirts with shorts underneath, or are they truly skirts? The world may never know.

The History of Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day is approaching rapidly! But it makes one ponder, where did Valentine’s Day originate from? GWE did some research and has dug up the history of this love-filled holiday.
The history of Valentine’s Day begins back in 250 AE, before Kryta was even its own nation and trading between the three continents was still new. During this time, there were wars over various issues from food and shelter to land and money. A general of one of the warring groups believed that young men who were not married or didn’t have families were better soldiers; thus, he refused to let any of his soldiers get married or have a family.
One of these soldiers, who was a saint known as Valentine (his first name is unknown), disagreed with his general. He not only married young lovers privately, but he himself fell in love. His general was outraged and ordered that Valentine be put to death. However, while awaiting his fate, his young lover, paid him visits. Valentine wrote to her from inside a holding cell often and always signed his letters, “your Valentine”, which is where that phrase comes from.
After Valentine’s death, several citizens began pondering the general’s actions. It was determined that Valentine’s death was unjustified; it was also determined that Valentine was a very romantic individual. He stood up to his superior because of love, and that made several other citizens start to do the same.
Valentine was killed on February 14, but his legacy lives on. It is because of his love for one woman and his determination that we celebrate Valentine’s Day now.

Story of a Slayer
We were able to meet with and interview Jadzia Emerald, an angel of slyness. No, that's truly what her code name is - Angel of Slyness. Code name, you may ask? Well, Jadzia has a code name because she is what's known as a slayer; she slays evil.

GWE: Welcome, Jadzia.
JE: Hello! Thank you for having me.

GWE: Why don't we start by telling us what a slayer is?
JE: It's hard to put into words, but a slayer slays certain things depending on what kind of slayer they are. They also have a few extra perks to the job to help them slay what they do slay. It's not always easy stuff that they slay.

GWE: And what are you a slayer of?
JE: I don't have a particular thing that I slay, but I choose to slay those who do evil.

GWE: How did you get started as a slayer?
JE: Well, being a slayer isn't something you can choose to do. I don't know how I ended up being a slayer myself, but I didn't choose to be one. It was a while ago as well, so I don't remember much about it.

GWE: Since you didn't choose to be a slayer, do you still enjoy it, or is it a burden on you?
JE: I enjoy it and being a good assassin. Nothing's better than slaying evil. If I had the choice, I still would have chosen to become a slayer.

GWE: At a party following Daniel Frozenwind's event about two months ago, you actually saved movie maker Roc Dis Joint from girls from a new guild known to kidnap and seduce popular and attractive men. You said that the girls caught your eye. How did they do so?
JE: Well to an ordinary person they'd just look like they were the last arrivals to the party. But they just gave off some distinctive aura of trouble to me; that's how it felt anyway. That's how I got suspicious.

GWE: And when were your suspicions confirmed?
JE: The moment the reporters grabbed Roc by the arms. I knew an ordinary reporter wouldn't do something that weird.

GWE: And you were able to save Roc by posing as one of these girls, correct?
JE: Yes, that's correct.

GWE: What else did you do, if anything?
JE: I killed one of the guild members by driving a dagger through her chest. The others ran away when they discovered that I was a slayer. But my main purpose was to draw the guild's attention to me and away from Roc so that he would have a chance to escape.

GWE: How did you feel when the guild members grabbed Roc?
JE: When they grabbed Roc, my first reaction was furious! He had done nothing to harm them and just grabbed him like that! My next reaction was worried, because I didn't know what their intention was or anything. There was also a lot of them, so anyone could have gotten seriously hurt. That's when I acted.

GWE: And how did you feel after you saved Roc?
JE: To be honest I was still furious. I knew the guild wasn't done there, and Roc is a good friend of mine so I did want to get my own back. But when I found out their intentions I felt relieved. If I wasn't there to help Roc, the situation for both of us could have gotten a lot worse. I though the guild was going to kill him instead of kidnap him, though that wouldn't have been good either. And for all I know, they could have used him as a threat to kill me or something!

GWE: What would you say the hardest part about being a slayer is?
JE: Actually doing the slaying.

GWE: And why is that?
JE: I slay all kinds of evil, but I can't tell what their strong points or weaknesses will be.

GWE: Do you have any other hobbies besides slaying evil?
JE: I love hanging out with my friends and making videos.

GWE: Thank you for volunteering to be interviewed and taking the time to do so. Do you have anything else you'd like to add?

One time I took my horse and buggy to a party, and I ended up getting totally wasted. I met this girl there, but because she hadn’t been drinking and I had, I was afraid to drive home. So she went with me, but that was a huge mistake because she’s the one that crashed the buggy. I guess she was so tired that she fell asleep and I was too drunk to notice, but she crashed right into a tree. The horses were gone and all that was left of the buggy was a giant heap of wood. – King C J

I went to training one day even though I had a cold and wasn’t feeling all that great. But we were supposed to be getting an expert instructor and I didn’t want to miss class. So I went, and I was surprised to find that the instructor was this really cute guy. I mean, I was in elementalist training, and my whole class was girls, as was our teacher. I expected a female instructor. Anyway, I really wanted to impress this guy, so when he asked for a volunteer to demonstrate a spell, I eagerly accepted. I walked up to him and began casting my spell. But in the middle of it, I felt a sneeze coming on. I tried to hold it in, but you could tell by my voice that I was going to sneeze. Finally, I just did, but that was worse because a huge glob of snot flew out and landed on the instructor’s robes! He looked totally disgusted and asked for another volunteer. I was mortified! – Taegan

I was just learning how to cast a new spell, and I was practicing outside the house. Right as I was casting it, my parents called to me and told me to come inside. I lost my concentration and sent a fireball right through our window! Thank the gods it didn’t burn! But I was in so much trouble after that! – Dreu

I snuck out of my house one night to go to a party. I promised myself that I wouldn’t drink or eat anything that was unfamiliar to me. Unfortunately, what I thought was regular apple cider turned out to be spiked. Because that was my first time drinking, it didn’t stay down. I threw up all over the floor. As if that weren’t bad enough, the host asked me to leave and everyone saw my red face as I trudged out the door. Suggestions wise, I agree with Konig that Kit and Tidus would make a great interview piece. If you were looking for other ideas, maybe you could do ones of new movie makers or up and comers. Maybe you could even have a random number draw kind of thing and whoever's number comes up, if they're willing to do an interview, there's your story.

Another idea could be to interview not only movie makers but the actors in the movies itself. I know that there are a few popular actors in my series that are fan favorites. I'm sure there will be some fans wanting to know the nitty gritty on their favorite actors and voices.

Bounty Hunters vs. Assassins
Bounty hunters are hired to bring criminals in alive for a reward while assassins are hired to strike down specified targets for a profit. Which profession is better? Or are they both the same?
With the rise in criminal activity, bounty hunters and assassins alike are on the rise. Criminals are being brought in at alarming rates and the bodies are piling up. Some citizens say that bounty hunters are better because they don’t kill innocent people, while others believe that assassins are more appropriate because that will permanently end the threat of a criminal.
“Both jobs are perfectly legal,” authorities said, “so long as they abide by the rules. Just because one is hired as an assassin doesn’t mean he or she can kill anyone he or she desires. It must come from a higher source.”
The Order of the Sunspears also offers bounties to travelers for killing certain types of monsters, as well as the Order of Whispers. However, these bounties don’t offer profit for rewards; instead, they offer reputation points. No controversy has been made on this as of yet, as anyone killing the monsters in the area is keeping villagers safe.
Still, which job is better, a bounty hunter or an assassin? Or are they both equal? We may never know.

There are all kinds of love, but for Nadia Beasttamer, her strong love for animals led to her demise.
Nadia has always loved animals and was journeying to see Minister Cho’s menagerie. Unbeknownst to her, all the animals in the menagerie were afflicted, diseased left over from Shiro Tagachi’s return. Because Nadia’s love for animals was so strong, she refused to fight them. Though she was surrounded by countless animals that fought her, she did nothing but run to try to save herself. Unfortunately, the animals outnumbered her and were able to strike her down. Nadia died and was discovered later by guards who were wearing masks to protect themselves from the disease.
Nadia’s friends say that she will be “greatly missed”, but they also believe that she went the best way she could have – surrounded by animals.

Bio of a Bounty Hunter
Sometimes criminals get bounties placed on their heads, and there are those known as bounty hunters who capture these criminals and bring them to authorities. We were able to snag an interview with one of the best bounty hunters, Nariko Dawnfire.

GWE: Welcome! Thank you for agreeing to meet with us.
ND: You’re welcome; I’m honored to have been asked.

GWE: So you’re a bounty hunter. Please tell us what that is.
ND: Basically it’s a person who catches criminals who have money or other rewards on them.

GWE: So you bring these criminals to the authorities alive, correct?
ND: Well, yes and no. Usually authorities want them alive, but sometimes dead is all right too if it’s a criminal who has committed multiple crimes. It also depends on the severity of the crimes. However, sometimes if you bring a criminal in dead, there is no reward at all.

GWE: Do you get a larger reward if the criminal is alive?
ND: That’s usually the case.

GWE: Why are the criminals wanted alive most of the time?
ND: If they’re brought in alive, then the authorities can give them the most appropriate punishment. Death is not always the answer for them.

GWE: How much of a reward do you usually get?
ND: It varies based on the criminals, the crime, and the severity. The standard range for a bounty is 50 to 100k.

GWE: Could you tell us how you became a bounty hunter?
ND: Anyone could become a bounty hunter. The secret, and probably the hardest part, is sticking to it. I don’t know if one could make an actual career out of it. But I became interested because I was raised as a corsair. My parents were both corsairs, but when our ship sank, I floated to Cantha where I was rescued. My father’s dying wish was that I turn my life around and not end up like him. But I guess because I was raised with corsairs, I’ve got greed in my blood. So as a result, I love making money. Then I discovered bounty hunting, tried it, and became addicted. So now I’m doing good for others while also staying rich.

GWE: What’s the hardest part about being a bounty hunter?
ND: Sticking with it, because you never know when to expect a bounty to come up or how much it will even be worth. Like I said, it may not be wise to make a career out of hunting bounties. Plus, there are several other bounty hunters out there that could get the reward first.

GWE: How long have you been a bounty hunter, and how long do you plan to be one?
ND: I’ve been a bounty hunter for about two years, and so far life has been good. I plan to be one for as long as possible but I’m always sure to have extra money on the side just in case crime takes a break.

GWE: How are you able to bring in so many criminals? We have on record that you’ve brought in the majority.
ND: It’s simple – I always wear a disguise. I can easily seduce the men, then make them pass out before bringing them in. Women are more difficult, but I usually appeal to them by posing as an ally. But sometimes that method doesn’t work, so I wear what I call my “bounty outfit”, and I can just fight them unconscious and bring them in.

GWE: Do you have any final comments?
ND: Thanks for the interview. Much as I enjoy catching criminals and making money off it, I’d like to see crime cleaned up for good. Maybe this will show them that eventually, they will be caught and punished for their bad deeds. They can’t keep committing crimes and hiding forever.

While nail polish is mostly used for women, some men have been seen wearing it as well. It’s simply thin paint that can be applied directly to your fingernails or toenails, or, even both. STRANGE BUT TRUE STORIES
Half Norn, Half Charr
Yes, you read that right. The new trend of interracial marriages in the Guild Wars world may not be so new. That’s because we’ve discovered a young woman who’s 19 years of age, and she is the daughter of a Charr mother and Norn father.
Quana has the height and stature of a Norn, but the fur of a Charr. This is truly a first discovery. “I’m characterized as a freak of nature,” Quana said, “and I’ve grown to believe that. I stick to myself and try not to go out in public.”
But exposing herself was inevitable for Quana; as a Norn, she usually goes out alone to hunt to survive, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t others around. A group of humans spotted Quana and feared for their lives, claiming that Quana was a “savage beast on the loose”. Bounty hunters were called in but when they discovered the truth about Quana, they backed down due to the authorities’ request.
“She’s done nothing illegal, nor have her parents,” authorities said, “so there is no reason for her to be punished.”
But what is legal and what people try to do is another matter. Some Norn have labeled Quana a disgrace to their race, and some Charr have done the same. Quana even fears that she will be the cause of a new racial war. Her parents were both already killed when the Destroyers began emerging from the depths.
Quana holds out hope that she’ll one day be accepted into society and that this interview will be and information will be the start of it. Let us hope that there are some kind souls who will look beyond the surface. Beauty isn’t only skin deep.

Once a great, northen nature spirit, Nulfastu descended into the dark arts in an attempt to destroy his brethren and usurp their powers. When his intentions were revealed, the other spirits struck down Nulfastu, binding his incorporial body to this realm and his spirit powers to the next.
Beware! Nulfastu retains great power and should be avoided by all but the most heroic or foolhardy person. He can manipulate the minds of the living and is constantly surrounded by the spirits of those he has trapped. Nulfastu is known to haunt the blasted remains of a tree southeast of the ice lake. Survivors who have encountered him claim he took the form of a rabbit to lure them into his trap. A 5k bounty is the reward for killing this villain.

Zaishen Updates & Fourth Year Celebration
It’s nearly that time to reward those who have served the Guild Wars world for four years! On April 28, these people will receive special items as thanks for their service.
In addition, on April 24, the celebration will begin with more storage availabilities for armor, weapons, and more. The Zaishen have announced that they will be extending their challenge in the form of new quests, in three different types (mission, bounty, and PVP).
The Zaishen are also going to give everyone their own individual menagerie, so anyone with a pet can give it its own little home. In addition, any other pets you’ve brought into your family can also be added to the menagerie and the Zaishen can train any animals that you can’t find.

Embarassing Moments
For our two-month anniversary, I was going to take my new girlfriend out for a night of dinner and dancing. We went to Nahpui Quarter and while dancing we decided to go to someplace a little more private. We found an abandoned house that was burned down by the Am Fah and figured if no one was using it we might as well. But when we walked in, we heard someone scream and in the light from the candle we saw another couple hurrying to get dressed. Turns out they had the same idea we did, only they took it to the next level. – Fyffe

I’m a magician, and I was working on a new trick involving glittering dust. My audience was paying very close attention to me and I turned around to get the rest of the items required for the trick. There was glittering dust on the table behind me, and as I bent over to get the rest of the stuff out of my crate, I farted loudly, and the dust blew off the table into glittery swirls and some even landed in the audience in the front row! That wasn’t quite the magic I was looking for. – Bella

I was meeting my boyfriend’s family for the first time and I wanted to make a good first impression. Unfortunately, he failed to mention to his parents that I’m a very picky eater. His mother prepared a dish that I couldn’t stand. However, to be polite, I tried to choke it down. That didn’t work too well because about a half hour later I began to feel sick to my stomach. I ended up barfing all over their brand new rug from Vabbi and I don’t think the stain has come out yet. They haven’t asked me over again. – Jadi

One day I spotted the girl I’ve been crushing on in town. I was working up the courage to tell her how I felt about her, so I began walking toward her. Too bad I didn’t watch where I was going because I smacked right into a fruit stand and spilled apples and oranges everywhere, bruising them up. I tried to laugh it off and run away, but the vendor was screaming at me so the girl and everyone else saw. As if that weren’t bad enough, I had to pay for the damaged fruit. – Zio
