Hmm, if i understand what your saying, i hope i do
You should probably just play straight Ele, they arent support, unless you play as a Warder, which is mainly in GvG.
Eles cast big dangerous spells to blow eachother up basically.
But if you needa read up more on something i'll give ya this link: http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Hope i helped a little bit

But one thing to remember is, if you dont like the proffesion your playing as, just delete it and start over
And you can always change you secondary proffesion later in tha game

Cheers

Not a warrior, they are just punching bags referred to as " tanks ". Elementalists and Paragons are the most feard in PvP, but Paragons are more fun to play with for PvE so ill say Paragon. They do need support skills to be effective though.

Mesmer for echo to have 2 of a skill for a brief time or energy management (but Ele's already have some of that), Monk for self healing or perm rez, it all just depends on the need.

no, you're not!
Warrior isnt just a punching bag, infact it's more like a punching fist...
Warriors deal tremendous amount of damage while having high survivability. a great class when played correctly, aka not tanking!!!

as for the Elementalist, the Fire line holds some nice AoE spells however in serious PvP(TA, HA, GvG) you will most likely play a support role, BSurger+Wards or BSurger+Ancestor's+Splinter. however you can still play a damage role, mainly in HA.

secondary professions are there to help the primary and can be changed any time you want as long as you reached a certain point in the story line. so dont worry about making the wrong choice here...

oh, and Paragons arent feared in GvG, the op saying it is probably drunk

i use my warrior everyday and im never a punch bag if i was i wouldnt be a warrior it is true ele's do lay down some awesome damage but ele's need warrior's to be able to use thier high damage skill or they'll just get pwned
in short ele's and warrior's are about the same they both need each other
warrior deals out some damage while holding of the enemy ele deals most of the damage while feeling nice and safe behind the warrior

Either Ranger, Necromancer, Elementalist.

Rangers and necros can have a lot of uses and can change their "role" if needed. Elementalists control 4 elements, which give you many different options.

Depending on which campaign you are buying:

Ritualist, Necromancer, Warrior, Ranger, Assassin or Elementalist.

Ritualists and Necromancers are more supportive, but they can both do some nice damage as well.

Warriors are straight up bashers with some supporting skills. Assassins are selfish killers with little or no supporting of any kind. Althought they do have the great ability to teleport back to a monk when things start going sour.

Yeah, Eles do crazy damage, but their self-healing sucks.

You will need to learn how to kite.

To start of, welcome to Guild Wars and I suggest finding a good, active guild that seeks to help new players. That will make your learning curve much shorter.

For a first time player that prefers casting, I suggest Elementalist, then once you have learned the basics try a Necromancer... imo they are the most versatile profession in game. You can do many different things with the same character and succeed at them all once you get some experience (with Necro).

Warrior is a good and fun profession if played right, all the professions are good and fun if played right. Other than perhaps Mesmer, anyone should be able to pick up any profession out of the box and succeed with it in a reasonable amount of time. There are no bad or nerfed professions in this game, which is a great reason to play imo. XD

Warriors - Deep Wound, 3 second KD's, pressure, you name it. These things are powerhouses. ALWAYS bring an IAS (Increased Attack Speed) stance. Also Deep Wound.

Rangers - Disruption, Condition pressure, survivability, these things are epic. ALWAYS bring D-Shot. This is undoubtably one of the best skills in the game.

Elementalist - Blinding Surge and Gale. 'Nuff said. ALWAYS bring some form of utility. Ward Against Melee at 10 Earth Magic is very nice.

Assassins - iGank.

Dervs - Immunity to conditions with a 50% downtime is pure /Win.

Necros - Shutdown.

Mesmers - Shutdown, and screwing people up in other ways.

Monks - Without these? Haha, good luck surviving without Prot Prayers in a decent level of play...

Ritualists - Unremovable buffs, Ancestors' Rage and Splinter Weapon are reason enough. AR and SW should ALWAYS be on your bar.

Paragons - Strong ranged DPS, stackable unremovable buffs, imba energy management... ALWAYS bring Aggressive Refrain and something to keep it up.

I love playing my Ele but as Zling already stated eles tend to get stuck with support positions in pvp. I would also recommend Ranger for the versitilty and survivablity. Rangers are great in both pvp and pve. Also, if later on you decide to run Ursan you generally have better luck gettings groups as a Ranger ursan vs. an Ele ursan.

If you like casters, I would go with Elementalist. E/Me is a popular choice because of the skills 'Echo' and 'Arcane Echo', which allow you to copy a spell for a brief amount of time.

Rangers are a fairly solid choice for anyone. They are the jack-of-all-trades. They can do just about everything well.
