Hi all,
I haven't played my mesmer for a very long time and didn't take care of any skill updates
In July 2007 I posted a build in a german forum and want to know if it's still viable or how it can be improved.
[build name="Painful Promise" box prof=Mesmer/Assassin desc= ins=2+1 ill=12+1+3 fast=8+1 dead=10][Frustration][Cry of Pain][Clumsiness][Signet of Clumsiness][Leech Signet][Assassin's Promise][Conjure Phantasm][Resurrection Signet][/build]
Thanks for your comments

Painful Promise - Still a viable build?

When I use Assassin's Promise I prefer to use more damaging things, and things with longer recharges, with the introduction of some new PvE skills it's quite rockin'.
However that build still looks viable, it is PvE after all.

I took some ideas from cellardweller and upier, toyed around with them and came up with this for HM:
[build box name="Painful Promise HM Mesmer Build" prof=Me/A fas=7+1 ill=4+1 dom=11+1+2 ins=8+1 dead=9][Phantom Pain][Cry of Pain][Assassin's Promise][Pain Inverter][Shatter Delusions][Shrinking Armor][Energy Burn][Ether Signet][/build]
I prefer having 2 mesmer hexes to 1, for triggering CoP and Shatter Delusions since some bosses do die hard in HM.

[skill]Wandering eye[/skill] could be added as well.
And I am a fan of [skill]Kitah's burden[/skill] mixed with [assassin's Promise] keeps you going with energy.

[Assassin's Promise] and [Finish Him] make a great combo.

I thought of using [Finish Him], but I get better damage using [Phantom Pain] and [Shrinking Armor], using them to trigger [Cry of Pain] each time, then [shatter delusion] them to produce cracked armor and deep wound also and you dont even need to wait for the 50%hp limitation of [Finish Him] to trigger cracked armor and deep wound.
I suppose the extra damage may not be needed in NM, but in HM it can be useful, especially against bosses.

Thanks for your replies so far.
I didn't think of the PvE Skills but it seems that it's worth to take a closer look at them ;b
DarkSpirit, you have to wait additional 10 sec before you can shatter Phantom Pain or Shrinking Armor (depending on which one covers the other)

Me/A Mesmer's Ultimate Cheese
Fast Casting: 11 + 1 + 1
Inspiration: 6 + 1
Deadly Arts: 12
Assassin's Promise (Elite)
Web of Disruption
Auspicious Incantation
Arcane Echo
Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support
Cry of Pain (100 AoE damage)
Battle Standard of Honor (+15 damage) / Pain Inverter
Leech Signet
Usage:
- Auspicious Incantation, Arcane Echo, Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support, Echoed Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support
- Assassin's Promise, Web of Disruption, Cry of Pain
Pros:
- All skills recharge very quickly due to Assassin's Promise
- Three interrupts
- Ward adds substantial damage to minions
- Auspicious Incantation, Assassin's Promise, and Leech Signet provide endless energy
- Perpetual AoE damage and sin squad
Cons:
- Need high level Ebon Vanguard rank, but PvE skills can be replaced with other alternatives
- If Assassin's promise is removed or the enemy survives, the effectiveness is reduced, but you can easily prevent it:
-- In areas with hex removal, try to cover Assassin's Promise as soon as possible with Web of Disruption.
-- Call your targets and use Assassin's Promise appropriately

I like using dark spirits combo of Phantom pain and shatter delusions. I tend to use something like this:
Assasins Promise[E]
Phantom Pain
Cry of pain
Ebon Vanguard Assassin
Shatter Delusions
Whatever
Whatever
Whatever
I think you get somewhere like 250 armor ignoring damage (maybe, im not too sure on how much the sin does its a while since iv been on my mes) and a deep wound. That combined with the party kills most things pretty quickly. Then youve got 3 slots for anything, 1 normally for e-management, another for a pve skill, and the last one something like an interupt, more damage, or res

Barghest I normally cast [Phantom Pain] first then [Cry of Pain], then [Shatter Delusion]. Notice that [Cry of Pain] recharges sooner than [Phantom Pain] so it is [Shrinking Armor] next, then [Cry of Pain], then [Shatter Delusion] again. [Shrinking Armor] also has the advantage of a lower energy cost and shorter recharge than [Phantom Pain].
And feel free to add in the rest of the damage at appropriate times. If you are facing a high damage enemy, [Pain Inverter] usually helps to kill it fast.
