How do you run a character through different expanions?

I looked it up on the Guild Wars Wiki but didn't really say much. So I guess what I'm asking for is a somewhat step-by-step guide.

In Nightfall, Factions, and EotN you are pretty much stuck doing the primary quests and missions.

In Tyria, then you can, just get run to various areas.
In the other Campaigns, however, it's a bit more tricky as there are gates there to stop you. I'm not too sure wether a person with the area unlocked could warp you to the area too, or weather he'll warp and you'll be stuck there.
Maybe some-one else can enlighten you.

You will unlock travel to the different continents once you get to a certain part of the storyline. From Cantha (Factions), you have to get to Kaineng Center. From Elona (Nightfall), you have to gain access to the Consulate Docks. I haven't played Prophecies in a long time, so I'm not sure how to travel from there.

There is no step by step guide for getting run, there are guides however, on how to become a runner. For this you usually need to a character that has completed everything (in an area) and usually you set up that char to be able to navigate quickly through an area from one city to another or one zone to another. Each area has different needs, the Crystal desert runner is different than a Shiverpeaks Droks runner, and different than an Elonian tour runner, which is different than a Eotn tour runner.

Okay, I think people are confused about what you mean by "running a character through different expansions."
Do you want to know how to go quickly from outpost to outpost within one campaign without actually doing all the quests/missions...
OR
Do you want to know how to transfer your character from one campaign to another (go from Factions to Nightfall)?
