Recurring lag spikes
Marverick
Since approximately a week ago, I've been getting recurring lag spikes reaching 1k-5k ping every 10-20 seconds or so. Basically, everything is just going smoothly until suddenly the game just "freezes" for a few seconds, and then "catches up". And then, the game goes on smoothly for another 10-20 seconds until the same thing happens again. This only happens in explorable areas (for the most part).
I've been playing this game for over a year and I've never had this problem. So it can't really be hardware issues
I've defragged my computer and scanned for adware and other stuff but haven't found anything; still the same issue.
I would appreciate if someone could help with this problem.

I have had similar lag spikes, but not quite as frequently.
I raised a support ticket using the link on GW main site.
I also submitted the -diag file with my ticket to save them asking for it later.
Their immediate response was that my graphics driver was out of date and I needed to update it. I moved them past that point and asked them to confirm there were no routing problems on the internet to their servers.
When they saw I was serious about the lag possibly being caused by an internet routing issue they were really helpful and sent me information about runnng a littly utility that logs connection to their servers and records all lag spikes. I can then send them the logs from this utility which will help them pin point exactly where in the internet routing there might be a problem.
So it is worth raising a ticket with GW support in case there is a wider issue here that they can do something about.
Quite a few of my guildies experience more lag recently than we ever have previously.
Hope that helps.

Where are you located and who's your ISP?
There seem to be a bundle of EU users with the same issue.

I have had the results back from PlayNC concerning the logs I submitted from weekend GW sessions.
The logs I sent show my problem is not with GW servers much (apart from the occasional lag spike) but more so with intermediate routers between my computer and the GW servers.
I am in the UK and my ISP is BT Internet. I don't think there is a problem with BT's routing per say, but more when it goes into the more general 'internet'.
The particular IP's in my route that are causing problems (according to the logs) seem to be:
195.66.226.167 and/or 195.66.224.167 and 63.218.72.70
I don't really know that there is much I can do about this except live with it and hope it gets better.
However the more people from Europe that contact PlayNC the better. If it is a widespread problem then they may be able to exercise some influence to get dodgy/malfunctioning routers fixed.

I've had this problem as well. At first I thought there were other reasons (such as my housemate downloading) but even with his computer the problem persisted. I too am a UK Guild Wars user.
Turbobusa
UK user, same lag spikes...

Are you on wired or wireless where you play?

I'm on American servers actually. The IP is 216.107.245.99. My ISP is Verizon.
To the above, I'm wired.

Same here, since at least Saturday been getting insane spikes. Not every few minutes, but certainly a good few an hour. Ping goes from 40 to 10k plus and then settles again. I'm UK based and usually play on Euro servers with a wired connection. I'm not alone in my Guild with this either, have had several of my members saying exactly the same, some of which have given up playing until it is fixed
This problem is in GW only, all other net based stuff is running as usual.

Can I please ask everyone to raise support tickets with GW support. The more of us that do this the more seriously they will look at the routing problem.
Marverick
I will raise a ticket.
However, strange that all of you guys are getting it in euro and I'm the only American who's experiencing it...
Also I noticed something else about it while soloing UW yesturday... I only get these lag spikes when I'm fighting, not when running or standing still
