Glacial Griffon
CagedinSanity
I'm on my ranger. I can't kill it. I've tried everything. Interrupts, Conditions, Trapping. I even resorted to my Rank 8 Ursan, and I just CAN'T kill this thing.
I lasted a little longer when I tried at ranged but no matter how much I burned, poisoned, or interrupted, those spirits tore me into pieces.
I haven't tried in a few months, so unless there's been a nerf to it or something (Which I doubt), I'll just post here and hope for the best.

And ursan pretty much covers the touch with ursan strike. :P

http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Build:R/N_PvE_Touch_Ranger This is just an example..there are more touch builds on pvx. if the spirits he cast kill u then just lure him back.

You mentioned burning and poison, so does that mean you tried the suggested method on the wiki? If not:

I used Spirit Spamming I recall myself on my Ranger: Expertise reduces there Energy Cost

The trick to dealing with the Glacial Griffon - on any profession - is to tackle the problem of the spirits first. Note that this does not necessarily mean destroying the spirits.
Attack spirits have the same range as a longbow, but are immobile. Try pulling the griffon away from its spirits so that you can attack the griffon but the spirits cannot attack you. If you can stay out of range of the spirits' attacks, they're no threat to you and you can concentrate your fire on the griffon without being shredded.

try to be a secondary necro and take animate whatever, blood of the master and grenth's balance.
animate the minions even before he becomes hostile.
keep them alive with blood of the master.
when you are hit ( wait a little ) use grenth's balance.
you only problen is energy - use whatever you want to solve this.

I did it with my Rit using a long bow and poison. Get on the hill so you have the extra range with the bow to hit griffon while staying out of range of spirits. Just keep griffon poisoned until he dies from degen.
Not sure if this still works, as it has been a while since I did it.

Try this thread. Lots of good suggestions, including my own:

I used burning arrow, apply poison (I would use poison tip signet instead now, didnt have it at the time), and pin down
By firing from up on the hill you out-range his spirits. When he starts coming for you use pin down. Retreat up the hill a bit as he comes. he will break aggro and retreat behind his spirits to heal. Follow under the protection of whirling defense/lightning reflexes to keep the degen going but dont get too close. He will follow you again. Retreat up the hill and use pin down again. This process takes a while but I took very little damage using it.

Grenths balance works very well against the griffon. I used an earth ele build with grenths as my elite and made pretty short work of him.

Did you try using Broadhead Arrow?

People make the Glacial Griffin harder than he needs to be. Avoid the spirits.

I even went and cap'd it instead of just tome-learning it like I do these days.
I also DO pull it away from the spirits.
I DID use the wiki. Hell, I'm a huge user there under "Vanguard".
I might try and read that thread that was posted.
But I think my hope is gone since I tried this about 4 times in 4 different ways, many of the ways mentioned here. A lot of you are saying stuf that just didn't work for me.

So glad the Griffon's not a primary quest I suppose I can live without "I Am Unstoppable!". :P

I want every piece of the reward, personally. I may not use the skill right off the bat but I would like to have it available, since I'm a melee ranger. At least, 80% of the time I am.
Pick Me
I've only got my Rit to the Glacial Griffon, so I don't know about the Ranger. So can spirit's attacks be blocked? If so, then you have a chance going touch ranger.
The problem with Urasn (I think) is you have no healing. Vampiric Touch/Bite gives you healing.
Other than Painful Bond, the Griffon has no other spell, thus Daze is basically useless.
I've interupted the Griffon with my rit, but then it became melee and pounded me into the ground.
Gaze of Fury didn't help much either (as my spirit dies very quickly).
The Griffon has no way of healing itself, other than time.
Is it Brambles that creates a spirit that adds health degen to those bleeding or poisoned? If so, maybe that will help.
Too bad Fragility is too weak to be viable.

I fought him as ele and turned the same trick on him that he plays on you: Rit Attack Spirits, only thing to remember is the location!
use the hill put your spirits up lure him and hide after the hill will staying in range.
That did for me.

i think i used prepared shot, apply poison, savage and dshot, nat stride, troll.. and that was pretty much it
or i used cripshot, hunters shot, savage and dshot, apply poison, nat stride and troll... one of the 2, just degened him to death and stayed away from him.

I used a Beast Mastery build for both the griffon and the rabid bear. All you have to do is lock the pet's target and stay out of the way. Then spam skills on recharge.

Just use degen, evasion, snares, blind, interrupts, etc. to kill it. Rangers excel at that.

If you also have a mesmer secondary adding [conjure nightmare] will not hurt (hex and run stay away from the spirits

I just did this. This was my build.
Read the Wind (So that longbow range is more accurate).
Poison Arrow. 4 degen.
Hunters shot. 2 degen.
Signet of Infection. 4 degen. (Max).
Lightning reflexes (To take out any spirits that were spammed on your hill).
Feel no pain (For spot spirit damage countering so you don't interrupt your degenning).
Troll Unguent (In case of lag/miscalculations).
Whirling Defense (Also in case of lag/miscalculations).
Worked like a charm. Run up the hill, read the wind, then degen in the order of the bar. Poison arrow sends it running after you, hunters shot lands to bleed, and infection to max the degen.
Then back up till the griffin goes to home position and use lightning reflexes to take out any spirits it spammed on your hill and start the process over again.
If you are really confident you can just drop troll unguent for sloth hunter to do large damage.
Hope that helps.

If you already have R8 Ursan, change your secondary to rit and get shadowsong. Drop the spirits outside the griffon's spirit's range, wait for him to drop, pull him to you, switch to ursan, and spam 1, 2, 3 =)
Cheers.
Cheers.

toxicity+barbed arrows+poison arrow+longbow+kite = win win
Honestly, I did it on my warrior with just a longbow, barbed arrows and poison arrow. Hit and kite, rinse and repeat.

Why use a pet? It takes two skill slots, and the spirits will blind it. It's much simpler to kill the griffon yourself. Or do you just use the pet to draw fire?

Wiki recommends interrupts, spoil victor and others. Here's the link to find out more. http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Glacial_Griffon
