Normal Tome Prices Falling?
Maverick2201
Has anyone noticed that prices for normal tomes seems to be falling? Not all that long ago, it seemed the standard price was 500-700g and now people are unwilling to pay more than 350-400g for them...
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this?

I don't really see too much importance in them so they'll probably end up dropping to somewhere around 100-200g a piece. Could be just me, though.

More people getting bored in NM, so moving on to HM?
take_me
Tomes for W, R and A have been at 200-400g each for a long time now.
All Caster Tomes still sell pretty good, Rit and Monk and Ele Tomes are at 700-1k each from what I've seen. Some even pay more than that.
Of course there are always people who only want to pay 200g-300g for a Caster Tome, but they would either have to get really lucky on a seller, or have to wait hours/days until they get them.
Whenever I see Caster Tomes being sold for 200-350g each I buy them immediately, unless I already have enough of them.

Or probably people finished unlocking their skills and demand got lower?
Can't expect people to create new characters all the time this late in the game

your right,tome prices are depreciating
but, technically they are priced wrongly anyway
the purpose of a tome is so u can unlock a skill without using skill points. a skill bought from a main town trader (has all ur unlocked skills) costs u 1k+1 skill point, so by this method tomes should be 1k+. a way to get skills while saving points, shldnt it at least be even? lol
but i like the cheap prices of tomes, makes new characters move alot quicker

Some tome sellers I've seen lately:
WTS 24 Warrior Tomes for 8.5k (roughly 354 gold each)
WTS 13 Monk Tomes for 3.75k (roughly 288 gold each)
WTS 10 Paragon Tomes for 3k (300 each)
WTS 18 Assassin Tomes for 5.5k (roughly 305 each)
So yes, the price of them have significantly dropped.

anyway, i find it good, when they get cheaper, because then will people with multiple characters have finally a cheap alternative to get one day maybe all unlocked skills for an other cha for just only 1/10th of the cost you would have to pay isntead on NPC, in the best case, that tomes would hopefully fall one day on 100g sell price XD
PS: the only way how anet could raise their value again, woudl be, if normal tomes would unlock any skills, regardless if unlocked, or not, but that should do imo all tomes anyway, totally sucks, that you can get with them only unlocked skils -.-

If someone spams "WTB monk Tome for 2k, please. I really need it." then why would I sell it lower

Tome prices have been pretty darn stable for a while now....the only dip I've seen have been with dervish tomes, which used to command well in excess of 500 gold each and have now dropped to the 400 gold range.
Thierry2
People found places to farm them.. so they get cheaper. Sin tomes for example are really easy farmable.. elite sin tomes are ~3k now.
Proff
With HoM being the only thing we can prepare for GW2 most are only working on filling it and getting their next koabd rank which discourages the creation of new character making the only people that use tomes the ones that have nothing better to do than unlock all the skills on their "main" toon.
MithranArkanere
Well, when you don't need or don't want skill anymore, you sell tomes, and thanks to the titles and the HoM, people tend to focus now in a single character, so sooner or later all tomes become useless, since less and less people play with other characters than the main one, and so they need less and less tomes, and that's when prices drop.
HawkofStorms
I have a better explination.
There have been 3 nearly back to back weekends of event farming. Easter, St. Patricks, and the Frog/Gaile retirement. That means, for 6 days, a large percentage of the GW population was farming non-stop for ale/sweets/consumables, often in HM. It would coorolate that the number of tomes in the market would also rise due to this reccent farming surge.

I've noticed while I've been trying to finish GW Prophecies that I've gotten ALOT of runes drops and a couple tomes. So I think Hawk has nailed it on the head.
cruzer
Yeah they have dropped, except monk tomes.
I noticed they are harder to sell too even if you sell for a low price.

It's the legacy of the titles and the HoM.
Kendar Muert
I'd say its a price war. More people are getting wise, and trying to get more customers by selling low. That makes it so that people expect those low prices.
super strokey
Shouldnt sins be pretty much free lol

All we need to do is get a new "uber" farming skill bar out there that uses some of the lesser known skills. This will cause the masses to need the new skills and since they would rather get the skill via a tome instead of mapping and paying 1k... we'll be rich!
So, anyone found a good farming build for [Fertile Season]?

Have you ever seen that guy: W T S Elite Assassin Tome 1=4k, Normal Sin Tomes 1=200g. (That's from Kaineng Center btw.) |
Neo Nugget
I rarely see rit tomes for sale, and when I do, they are rather pricey, like around 800g.

Yep prices are low. Hard mode makes for easy tome farming.
Monk In The Box
Yes it does seem to be going down.
OOshadeOO
they been dropping for a while :|

I hope Elite Tomes reach ~1k soon. I'd like the other 2 elite skill titles.

prove it. <grin>
Malice Black
If an item is farmable the price will drop. Some items drop slowly, some drop quickly.
Yawgmoth
I still sell most of tomes at pretty good prices, monk tomes still at 1k and above!, same with rit, ele tomes are still easy 800+, even the more farmable ones like warrior are still in demand and sell at around 400g, no clearly visible price drop
Only assa tomes can be seen under 300g mark, obvious reason ;d

I never had problems selling monk tomes over 1k. Sometimes even over 2k.
The only tomes that dropped to bottom are assassin since just about everyone is pushing for raptor extinction.

So regular tomes should hardly cost 1k they are for saving you gold not skill points. Always has been that way always will be that way. They will hardly go up before going down as they are doing right now proving my point. <grin>
