"Hero" Classes
AtotheLEX
I think that when GW2 comes out, they should make a new type of character for those that have reached the level cap.
a quest chain should be available for endgamers and depending on what sub-class you are (fire Mage, minion master Necro, swords warrior etc.).
For example, when a fire Mage gets to level X, he can do a chain to get him to be a "Firestarter" or when a minion necro gets to X he can become a "Bonemaster" or a swords warr can become a "Blademaster". The list could go on forever because of all the class types. This will get rid of the dual profession and the ability to go to town and re spend your skill points. But this process will not be mandatory but each her class will get big bonuses. For example, a "Bonemaster" necro will be able to raise and keep alive a very long time a small army of minions from small amounts of dead bodies, and "firestarters"'s fire spells use little energy and do double damage and AoE spells will be able to cause svere burns. That is my idea.

Questions:
What determines which subclass you get?
Respeccing - What does this do to your idea (Spam all builds at lvl 20?)?
Nerf/Buffs will change builds, so what will happen when you abandon a build?
What sort of inviestment will you need to get each subclass (ie. a long quest, or just buy each one)?

What deterimines the sub class?
-the skill specc you are, the way you spend your skill points, fire specc mage, death magic specc necro, expertise specced ranger.
Respeccing
-once you hit the Hero class you will be able to choose from all new tlent builds and skill sets.
Once you choose your Hero class, you cannot go back unless you m ake a new character.
-Subclasses are determined by the way you spend your 200 allotted skill points. Once you get hero clas you can get to, 25 lets say, and the if you are not 25 by the end of the quest chain and you are now a hero class, you will be 25 automatically.
There can also be special gear only equippable by your specific hero class.

So basically you want permanent career paths? I don't like this idea because it removes the flexability that GW is known for just so you can have a substantial advantage in one aspect of the class. I'd hate to ruin all fun a character has to offer in its adaptability just to become a more specialized class with access to benefits others can't get.
AtotheLEX
well, i mean they wont be OP, its just that if you really like being a certain type of one class, than you can become a more specialized type.
If they were OP then everyone would be them and it wouldn't be nearly as fun and i agree with you.
And with this addition you could just stay the core professions and they would patch their level cap to 25 but you wouldnt be as good of a fire elem then a "Firestarter" would be.
And if you choose to stay the core prof, then you will have your own type of armor as well, but like i said before you will not be as good at casting certain types of spells or certain types of attacks as they hero classes would be

What's the point? We can already specialise in a certain style of fighting when we hit the level cap. I call them attributes.

WoW, I can think of all the benefits this would present. WoW, none!

This point is totally moot since ANet has already stated that GW2 will follow the class/subclass system that was in place in GW1... not to mention, you're talking about a hefty change to the way the game functions.
No thanks.
