What I want is a ghost or observer mode for PvE. The reason is there are some real cool creatures out there and some equally nice scenes. For pure screen shot goodness, I want a ghost mode. You cant attack, open chest, gain XP or anything else. just travel about in areas you have already opened. This doesnt count for mapping either. Certain areas are just pretty. I like to explore them and sometimes just watch the way anet set up the monsters. Raptors being one of my favorites. I know this will prob never be made, and will also be flamed and called failed.

I can't see a reason why not to do it, it won't have a bad effect over PvE.

Going to reiz this thread because I hate creating clutter and I am tired of people whispering me just to ask what quest they do next when doing FoW.
What about an Observer mode for elite areas that PvE guilds could post when they are doing it.
I can think of several positive side affects:
  • Serves as a training tool.
  • Serve as PvE guild recruiter.
  • Players get to see how a guild performs before joining them.
Elite areas have a high learning curve and few are showing new players how to do them correctly. No meta team want to take newbs.

I like the observer mode for the Explorable areas. It also allows players to know the different landmarks and trails for runs and such. I'll agree to it.

As Spider said, it wouldn't have an effect on PvE because you can't touch anything :P. Also it gives us a break from all the insta-monster-aggro-because-we-didn't-do-anything-to-them.

of course it wouldn't hurt to have this implemented. unfortunately anet doesn't have unlimited resources dedicated to gw1. would i rather have this over other things anet could do with their time? no

I want this in PvP observatory as well. You can run around the arena first hand if you choose. It would be awesome.

Time and money. Anet doesn't have infinity of either, that's the reason why not.

and this would be hard why? they already said there is no new content. so the devs still working on gw1 basically do nothing but skill balances and read forums and help when they can with gw2.

If you don't know how to pve were you need to. Play along and just be in the middle of the group. They don't ask, and you get experience. If you really don't know what to do, ask friends. Usually they are willing to help. Usually. But Srsly why do you need observer mode in PvE. You can just "tank-and-spank" most pve places.

like the op said this isn't just to learn mobs/routes. this is also to go explore places you couldn't if you actually were in the zone.

...the only thing this might do for ppl is that they don't have to go on youtube to look at "How Teh Haxxorz Farm Perma Sin Style"...as you said OP screen shot goodness may be the other, and ONLY benefit...

Observe for fastest elite area clears would be nice, but this is pointless.

it would be a nice reward for those who have mapped but i don't see a real reason for it unless it was a recordable so you could watch how some one did a farming run.

Obviously the devs working on gw1 are doing other things, because they can't get skill balances right no matter how hard they try (zomg, buff shadow form, because infinite invulnerability isn't good enough!, but i digress), anyway, this would basically be the same as adding another game mode, like Hard Mode that was added at the time of Nightfall. I would say that probably took more than just working through a coffee break to buff the levels of monsters. I'm no computer programmer, and I assume you aren't either, so you should probably not assume something is as easy to do as it seems.

I can't see any benefits to this other than Fraps and screenshots; and (imho) if you want to make movies, go buy movie-making software, because it will be a lot more intuitive than watching Beserking Minotaurs for 30 mins.

day 1 in guild brother:7.30am

after a night of binge drinking the minotaur twins brian and keith show paul around sardelac sanitarium, paul then uses his /facepalm emote and runs off to the diary room

i like the idea but only for a laugh when the first pug im in for over a year kicks me for saying a build is crap, they enter then about 1min later return to the outpost.

i want to observe the fail in those situations but thats about it

like i said they do skill balances. which is more or less some math, observer mode, reading forums and coming to a consensus with the team and key players in the game.

hardmode is completely different than adding an observer mode. the programming for "observation" is already in the game (when you're dead, when observing gvgs or ha...etc) so they simply have to tune it to let someone "observe" an instanced area in pve (which gvgs and has are, an instanced area). i am a programmer so you assumed wrong but not really a fault on your part. hardmode included increasing enemy health, changing enemy ai (scatter), enemy speed, skill bars....etc etc etc. observer would not need anything "new" brought into the game, just changing existing code to fit a "new" requirement.
