Can anyone direct me to some good anti-spyware etc. programs? Lately my computer seems to lagg up at times making it run really slow which is quite frustrating. Unless someone knows what else may be causing this?

I have used Adaware Alert for the last couple of years and I have been quite pleased with it. It's something like $19.99 for 12 months. You can google and download it in a few minutes if you have DSL/cable.

You can head over to my website http://lunarsoft.net

In the Downloads section get an Anti-Malware Package. I recommend the professional version.

I have included a PC Maintenance guide that will allow you to safely clean your computer. Once you have done so and receive a clean bill of health, you should read the PC Security section to help protect your computer against future infections.

Thank you very much. And might add that you have a very nice website. I've added it to my favorites. A very good site for the cumulation of all good anti-malware programs, I'd recommend it.

And ofcourse thanks to all the other people who replied.

I use Adware Plus (paid version)
Spybot S&D
CCleaner <~~essential
Windows Defender

If you use Firefox, use Popup Bloker. It'll stop those pesky pop-ups. I never get one on any site, including this one.

I can vouch for Search and Destroy.

About the popup blocker... I use it and still get popups on this exact sight.

Recently I really like A-Squared.

But really you shouldn't have just one, get more than one on demand scanner.

I use:
  • Avira Antivirus
  • Windows Defender (if you are using windows this is a decent one that will not bog your system down, it's also got real-time scanning)
  • A-Squared (for on demand scanning)
  • Revo Uninstaller (if you don't believe me about how much crap uninstalled programs leave on your computer, try uninstalling apple software or Winamp with Revo. It's unbelievable)
  • CCleaner (absolutely download this if nothing else)
  • HijackThis (it's a little hard to use, but it catches everything)

Adaware is coming out with a 2008 beta I may try here soon, and spybot search and destroy is always a good choice.

SuperAntiSpyware is very good. (free version and also payment version)
Even those experts in Kaspersky forum suggest this program.
