why doesnt NCsoft make a better website?
warcrap
Today I am wondering why NC soft has left there site so boring bland and empty for so many years with all the billions of dollars they make every year they out of use some money to hire some web designers and make more visually appealing sites for there customers.
right now you can go ahead and compare plaync.com with blizzard.com and ncsoft.com with blizzard.com
there is really no comparison there, NC soft generates a bigger revenue than blizzard and they don't wanna spare a penny for web designers?
sorry if i posted this in a wrong area i couldn't find any other forum to post this.
i really think NC soft can reel in more customers by giving a first impression through there websites.

World of Warcraft has 10 million + subscribers, at $15 a month. So 150 million dollars per month?
Keep in mind that this is just one Blizzard game. Blizzard also has the Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo series.
Edit - Although I agree a new website would be nice.

blizzard.com looks pretty shitty to me...
the ncsoft sites look way better than blizzard, and WoW (WoW all flash, loads like crap in Opera)

EDIT: just took a look plaync.com does look poor, however the European one looks great, in my opinion

Why are we talking about the website of NCSoft?
Why are we talking about the website of Blizzard?
Is there even a point of this thread?

Lineage 2 has 17 million players, and is the second best selling PC game of all time, after The Sims. NCSoft has money to burn. However, their website is perfectly fine.
EDIT: Lineage 2 source
Sims source

In my honest opinion, the WoW site looks much worse than the plaync.com website(when it's not broken. At the moment it looks as if it's broken in Firefox 2.).

Watch everyone go nuts now that WoW has been mentioned.

This belongs in OTA xD.
Personally, I find the blizzard one a little better looking xD.

I think plaync.com is better layed out. Blizzard.com from a first glance looks like it was made by a fan.
I'm not bias towards Blizzard, I just have this thing called personal taste.

Lineage 2 is far more popular in Asia, while WoW is more dominant in the US, but that doesn't change than NCSoft made binfuls of cash off of it - enough to flush money down the privy that was Tabula Rasa without going out of business.

Also, the PlayNC site does look cleaner, more professional, but damn is it difficult to navigate and find exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not fond of the heavy Flash usage of the WoW site, but it's really easy to use.

If WoW has 10 million currently subscribing I think it is very reasonable that they sold several millions to people who have played and didn't like it or played and got bored and stopped their account.
dr strangelove, I have no idea what the Lineage numbers look like, but WoW only has 2.5 in america and has a whopping 5 million in asia. seems to me it is dominating more in asia than anywhere else.

My point, which seems to have been lost along the way, is that NCsoft is not poor, and is in fact one of the most successful PC game developers, certainly in the same league as Blizzard. Stop the slap-fights over WoW.
When I said Lineage 2 is more popular in Korea, I didn't mean that WoW has not also sold in Asia. I meant that Lineage 2 is primarily an Asian game that enjoyed almost no success in the US, while WoW did. I'm going to have to find my sources again for this too, aren't I....

I would love to see Play NC site totally disconnected from GW. As is I won't change my GW pw b/c I don't trust Play NC in the least, and I cannot file a report b/c the Play NC site doesn't recognize my account. If GW is issued through Play NC/NC Soft, I won't buy it. I like ArenaNet well enough, but NC Soft is about the worst game mfg. I've ever seen in the 28+ years I've been playing vid games.
EDIT: Actually, Microsoft is worst. Then PlayNC/NCSoft.

I dont use the ncsoft website so couldnt give a monkeys what it looks like. This is a GW site were on afterall, so as long as this, and the official GW site look nice, everythings rosey in my book

let me guess, because they hire an advertising agency who is resposible for designing the webpage and the contract isn't over?

plus lineage 2 has 17 million registered accounts but not all of them are active.

I don't see anything wrong with either site honestly. I can navigate and find anything I want on either site just fine.
PlasticBlue
I prefer them putting money in good game servers rather then a good site...
And as long as you can find what you are looking for and don't go blind while searching the website, I don't mind what it looks like.
Of course, eyecandy sites are nice... but they need a lot of work and are sometimes very heavy.
Less is more ^^
And about Lineage II, don't forget about all those people playing on private servers.

are you talking about plaync.com or ncsoft.com ?
plaync.com (eu) is quite ok, maybe a little basic in terms of info on games, but if you wanna know more theres always the official site.
ncsoft.com appears to be broke for me on firefox 2.0, but i recall visiting it some time earlier and i had no complaints about it.

As a web designer myself I have to say the blizzard website is hideous and unprofessional. They rely on a single flash animation in relation to design and then use trash for the rest of the page.
They break most ergonomic/HCI and usability guidelines making the site a chore to navigate while alienating a large portion of people with disability and accessibility issues.
Black backgrounds with those text colours are a big mistake. Links and various other parts of the site have poor css and the website scales poorly in non-standard resolutions.
The NCsoft site is in no way perfect itself but from a design and usage point of view is much better than the blizzard one.
