Vista SP1 killed my audio
Gabriel Archmagi
I upgraded to Vista SP1 yesterday and it's completely removed all audio from my Guild Wars game. I get audio from other programs and sources, so I'm pretty sure it isn't an incompatibility problem with SP1 and the sound card itself, more likely the conflict is with Guild Wars. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they've found a fix for it.

As you were warned prior to installing Vista SP1, to update your drivers for several devices. There are several audio drivers that need to be updated in the list. You can see the list in the link below.

Wow I just noticed this, I never run sound in Guild Wars but my 3D audio option is now grayed out and when I turn up sound I get no output, but I was just listening to winamp fine.
I'll check into updating stuff.
EDIT: Nvm I had it muted, but I still can't use 3D audio hardware.

I'm having the same issue with GW sound. But ON TOP of that, it made my CD-ROM drive stop working. Luckily my friends figured to delete 2 registry key items to get it to work again.

Remember that Vista doesn't feature DirectSound (and DX10+ won't ever again) anymore, so there's no way you could play GW with DS3D.

creative,
umm ya. 3d doesn't work on vista.
I'm sure that creative is hard at work to bring you a expensive sound card that will support all these issues. It is their business model you know. release great hardware and have a driver package that disables all the good features, so when you buy the new sound card you think that it was the hardware that needed fixed and just not the drivers.
for some good research Google: Dan K. creative drivers.

Under Vista OpenAL is the best solution for Creative/X-Fi cards and EAX (no drawbacks, all features). The problem is that game developers need to implement it.
So far all UE3-Games support OpenAL, Battlefield 2 then Stalker and some others I don't know of right now.
