BIG Trouble, Unsolvable? =(

Alright, I don't know what else to think anymore. GW hates me, period. D:

* It's not an overheating issue, I checked.
* My computer CAN handle the graphics.
* All drivers are fully updated and cleaned. (Xp specified), and Direct X9 is updated.
* Experimented with lowest settings to no avail.
* This problem ONLY happens with Guild Wars, no other game.
* I tried setting the affinity of GW to 1 core because I have a
multi-core processor. (Even used ForceCore correctly) and
the problem still exists.
* Ran a virus and spyware AND system check with no problems.
* Defragged.
* Begged and pleaded for it to run?

So, now that you know what I've actually done, let me explain the problem in full detail.

* The game freezes (not fully). Sometimes it clicks between 1 frame and another close frame.
* Control-Alt-Del, Alt+F4, Alt+Tab, Esc do not work.
* The mouse blinks like crazy, but somehow can move around freely.

Please, you guys gatta help me. ( I'm sorry I had to make another thread, but I'm very desperate here! )

Is this an omen!? What can I do?

Specs: Laptop
Inspiron 1520, XP installed
Nvidea GeForce 8600

try running the game in a window and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice, Lawrence.

Sadly, it occurs when I do that as well. ( but with more image-clicking )

I greatly appreciate your help though, guys.

It seems when I get the 'mouse blinking' issue it is something to do with my resolution and screen issues, not anything system related. For example if I have firefox open in the background after 15 mins it kicks over to foxsaver and that's when my screen blinks and freaks out.

And although it doesn't seem like a lag issue, I might suggest this:

it seemed to just help my game run a little smoother.

NVKeystone maybe? I'm grasping at straws here, but that's been known to cause mouse blinking.

has guild wars ever successfully worked on the laptop? if so, what has changed since I last worked? You can also perform a system restore to a day that it worked also.

My brother's laptop runs GW very smoothly. It's a Dell. My laptop, an older Dell with not so good stats can only run GW if i do the -image download thing. And even then its a bit choppy. So yeah, Laptop's can run it.

So the game freezes and then what?
You mentioned it doesn't freeze completely, which leads me to believe that it still runs, just at very low frames.
Does it lead to an eventual freeze? lockup? Does it return to normal?
What about the BGM/sounds? Do they play normally? Screech?

Have you tried disabling the sound in-game?
Tried ticking/un-ticking the "use Hardware Sound" option?
Tried changing the sound quality slider?
Have you tried closing ALL other applications (such as AV, firewalls, etc) that you can and then playing GW? (in case it's a conflict issue with another software..)

I think he was addressing the OP.

But I'll ask again, has Guild Wars ever worked perfectly on that laptop? Were there any hardware/software changes since the last time it worked?

So I was getting the same problems like you and had a compy setup sort of similar (multi core, high end gfx card)

What I think may have occurred that crashed my compy was me messing around the nVidia control panels, specifically in the 3D settings where I made the nVidia control panel override the 3D capabilities of the game to the maximum settings(I have two 8800GT in SLi)

After reinstalling the nVidia control panel (returning everything to default) it fixed itself and played normally. Oh and GW has no problems with multiple core processors.

I'm setting ALL of my nvidia settings to default. Reinstalled the control panel. Even tweaked my power-management settings.
I'm testing it to see if it works. Hopefully it will.

Yes, I have previously closed all firewalls, blockers, pesky programs that might be a threat to GW.
Also, I did experiement with sound and the Hardware option.

More info on the bug/glitch/problem:

* Image-clicking: Screen freezes on two frames of animation. No actual
game progression. Just two frames- such as my character moves his
leg back and forth while running.
* Mouse blinking: Mouse blinks like crazy, but has full-complete movement.
No lag either.
* Rare sound looping: On rare occassion when this happens, a sound
file will loop; such as an explosion or guard's scream during death.
* GW Not-Responding Stuck: I cannot escape from GW. No combination
with the keyboard helps. I have to restart.

Thank you very much to all the friendly people posting in this thread. I'll try to see you in the game!

Ahhh... Had this. It's a DirectX problem. Turn off hardware sound acceleration in dxdiag. (And possibly hardware video acceleration too.) Run the game a couple of times. Then turn it back on. Might consider uninstalling and reinstalling DirectX altogether (though uninstalling DirectX is a known beeetch).
