It is "nice" in the sense that it regurgitates conventional wisdom, splatters some semi-relevant information, and calls it an article. The Wikipedia article on Guild Wars is more informative and educational.
I've been waiting for an insightful retrospective on Guild Wars in the mainstream gaming press, but nothing has materialized so far. It is a damn shame; GW1 deserves a good eulogy, for it came so close at times to that MMORPG ideal.

A retrospective would be nice.
With like tons of concept art.

It was NEVER easy to find human groups for ANYTHING from day one.Exept maybe during week ends.
Heroes ftw. And if you have some rudimentary social skills, perhaps find a guild. Put the guild in front of the wars again.

I sometimes end up in bad groups (such as the ass who, when we went Across the Wall on the rescue mission, ran ahead and aggroed the Charr up by Ben Wolfson, then mapped out after calling me a loser - and after taking my 50gp as the standard gate monkey fee when we got there. Fortunately, a guildie with a Pre character was online soon after that), but nowhere near as often as I'd've expected from reading here.

The one reason, and more than anything the only reason, I played Guild Wars was that it had no added monthly fees. That's it... and because of that reason, there's a strong chance I will not stop playing the first Guild Wars as long as they keep servers open for it.
In my opinion, that article made Guild Wars look bad.

"Also, the game being free-to-play has inspired many people to make that initial leap into the MMO world, possibly even opening their eyes to a subscription-based game eventually."
GW is for noobs to learn WoW?

Of course, time of day and time zone factors into it - even LA's relatively dead at 6am Eastern.

Of course, I never tried to get into one with mesmer, sin or rit. But for everything else, it was no problem.
But saying that it was NEVER easy is simply wrong.

GW = Your school football team
WoW = All American team
GW failed when it went from a decent CORPG to a bad MMO.

Ehh article was bad but at least someone cared enough to write it. Overall i give it a 5/10.

not too bad the pictures with article didnt sell the game really
about that mount thing, maybe he means by first glimpse that this is Anets little preview of what Gw2 will be like. the multi layered dungeons and mounts (Scorpians).

I don't understand most of the comments. Personally it feels like a big "meh" to me, but I think it is aimed at people that have not played in a long, long time (as evidenced by at least the two first comments, did not read more after that).
The thing I don't get here is the vinegar. I mean the writing is mostly on par for what Massively delivers. So are you all subconsciously holding this article to a higher standard because it deals with Guild Wars (and you are here in this forum)?
I am intrigued with the one poster's theory about A.Net trying to stir the pot a little and then lay down GW2 news. We will see what we see I guess.

About GWEN:
I think it's a nicer way to say ,,buy EotN or gtfo''.

Personally, we think no matter which chapter or chapters you decide to assemble for your own GW experience, Eye of the North is a welcome supplement to enhance the overall experience. |

Theres something that caught my eye in that :
"Eye of the North uses all of the features of previous chapters and wraps them in a shiny new shell, including our first glimpses into different ally races,RIDABLE MOUNTS and multi-layer dungeons"
Edit: Sorry Sab didnt see your post there

...to never actually play the game with any humans.
...to never actually play the game with any challenge.
...to never get anywhere in PvP beyond "average".
...get abused and called a n00b everywhere you go as you try to learn the system.

By limiting PvP to arena conflict Guild Wars removes the issue of ganking/teaming/griefing, while maintaining a PvE and PvP game under the same (generally) rules. |
