What's the use of filling the Monument of Valor?

I've been collecting some Onyxes and Diamonds to craft Destroyer weapons for the HoM. But I'm still a bit unsure about the use of maxing this monument. The monument allows you to add one of each type of Destroyer weapon per character. But since the character only has one primary profession and generally only uses one or two weapon types it makes not much sense on the GW1 side to add all weapon types on a single character.

According to PC Gamer (May 2007), "special weapons you earned in Guild Wars 1 may be in a display case in your Hall of Monuments, and your Guild Wars 2 characters will be able to take them out and use them." How do I explain this?

1.) Does this mean that any GW2 character can then use any Destroyer weapon I added to the HoM with my GW1 main char? -Or-
2.) Does this mean that a GW2 char gets bound to a GW1 char and only that GW2 char can use all weapons?

Case 2 would make not much sense because then the GW2 char gets many weapon types that he cannot use effectively, like a warrior with a staff or an ele with a hammer. But ArenaNet also tells me that the HoM is character based, which only adds to the confusion.

I would really appreciate if someone (from the GW team?) can explain the use the the monument of Valor a bit more. I already searched through the forums here and consulted the two GW wikis, but I can't find a definitive answer anywhere. Thanks in advance for your explanation.

You won't find any additional info here. Spamming Gaile for answers when she was still PR didn't help either.

And I sincerely doubt Anet is going to descend from their seats up high and provide this info.

Only time will tell.

Like the rest of the hom its a way of passing ons something of gw to characters in gw2.

Little information available because gw2 isn't written yet when it is finished we will know and not until then.

Lets face it if anet set in stone just what advantages filling the hom did for us it would then limit their freedom to alter how those would fit into the new game.

There's a very high probability that filling the monument will unlock a complete bonus weapons set in GW2, similar to the various bonus sets (pre-order etc.) available in the original GW.

There's also a very high probability that the weapons you get in GW2 are not those destroyer ones that you put in. There isn't even any guarantee that the current weapon system transfers verbatim to the GW2 side. There might be less or more weapon types than there is currently and the stats might be completely different. About the only mechanism that is likely to transfer as such is the prefix-infix-postfix modification system.

Diamonds and onyxes are currently very affordable because people find destroyer weapons ugly (as do I) and can't see much benefit in filling the respective monument but make no mistake, once ANet reveals the reward system the prices of those gemstones will hit the roof since Valor will grant the only tangible advantage in GW2, as opposed to the other four that are purely cosmetic.

A disclaimer: the above is not insider information or an official statement from ANet but merely a (fairly) educated guess based on various lines of evidence.

As we do not have this information, we can't answer you apart from what has already been stated. Anything else is pure speculation.
