Gw.dat file size at this moment
racso
So, I'm doing a clean install of GW to see if I can resolve some issues.
I installed GW from Nightfall CDs, and run the game with the -image modifier (forces GW client to download ALL available data to date).
If you have done this, or you are sure that your gw.dat file isn't bloated, how much does it has the file size at this date?
EDIT: almost forgot, I'm currently with 1.98Gb and downloading, 55,380 files left at this moment.

3.57GB atm, -image'd

I've had numerous issues on my home computer, and have had to re-download files from GW, constituting an evening's worth of downloads (not to mention whenever you go into a new zone, downloading more files).
And, as I'm sure, anyone who was there for EotN's unveiling, there are a lot of files to be had, no matter what you are downloading now.

Darkobra
4.14GB. It'd be interesting to see what influences the size, providing you have all games installed. No idea where the extra words came from there.
JeniM
3.96GB
Shouldn't they all be the same size?

I have EotN, too bad I don't have DVD-Rom, would have saved me a lot.
StormDragonZ
For me, 3.69GB with Bonus Mission Pack, EotN and all three games.
Also with the use of -image.

3.58g after the latest -image
I did notice about a 2 months ago it was just over 5gigs O.o and asked a few guildies theres were around 3.5g
Suport in a query I made to them suggested it was becoming corrupt ( the data file)
and to delete the dat file and re download with -image
it's stayed around 3.5g
I have all campaigns and mission/bonus packs also the game seams to run better smother I think.
A good way I do it now is get a clean dat file fully -imaged and back it up to dvd
then I prolly won't have a huge download if I ever delete the dat file again.

Theory about it in German: http://guildwars-forum.onlinewelten....3&postcount=50
and http://guildwars-forum.onlinewelten....2&postcount=63
Basically the theory says, that the download is slower than the output on the disc. So the output writes a lot of zeros.

Why the hell would anyone design it like that, it just makes no sense.

After Image-ing, mine is: 3,56GB.
Have all 3 campaigns + EotN + BMP.
gmonster2

From what I understand about the .dat file, is that people that tend to use alot of different characters & accounts increase their dat size by corruption. I have had mine close to 5GB before and had it go completely caput so I had to redl which was no fun. Currently all of my pc's have a dat file under 4GB, ranging from around 3.5 to 3.9. If you are getting up into the middle 4s, it may help things along (including game performance) by removing the dat file you have, and redownloading it.
cataphract
Mine was over 9 GB a month ago. Will check it once I get home.

3.56 to around 3.7 is about right. Anything above that is good ol' "dat-bloat" which I suffered from myself. One theory is that old dats have disused items in there that never got deleted during updates - I don't know for sure.
Oh, and Miss Drops Az? How come your PC is set to open .dat files with Windows Media Player by default?
