looking for a laptop

That can run Guild Wars very good. Please don't recommend a desktop computer, I've already gotten through arguing with a bunch of WoW players about it. I just want someone to give me a straight answer that has to do with my question.

I was going to buy WoW tomorrow but I don't want to pay to play so I think I'm going to get Guild Wars Nightfall instead. So I need a laptop capable of running it, perhaps from walmart as its closest in the area. A good laptop under 2k.

I just bought this beast-of-a-gaming laptop from Dell for $2500 (minus tax + 3 yr accidental dmg plan)... it's a refurb XPS M1730 with the following specs:

-Intel Core2Extreme X9000 2.8ghz (OC's to 3.4ghz stable)
-Dell WUXGA 1920x1200 LCD
-4 gigs DDR2-667 RAM
-Nvidia 8800GTX SLI 1gig DDR3
-200gig 7200rpm HD with freefall sensor
-PC Express Card remote control
-DVD-Burner/BluRay ROM
-802.11 a/g/draft-n wifi
-BlueTooth module
-Windows Vista Premium (will be replaced)

It arrives next week from www.delloutlet.com. I had to hover over the M1730 inventory refresh button for a few hours before finding this gem. Brand new, it would come close to $5000 USD.

You can probably get a refurb XPS M1530 for ~$1200 with optimal hardware (2.5ghz core2duo, nVidia 8600GT 256MB, 4 gigs RAM, 200gig HD, etc.) These units look brand new out of the box, but I suggest getting Dell's accidental damage coverage so that you never have to worry for the life of the laptop (about 3 yrs worth).

Way too much. I said under 2k. Perhaps between 1k-1.5k to be more specific.

Read revised post above... $1200 for a souped up refurb XPS M1530. I just checked www.delloutlet.com and verified this price.

That M1730 I bought is about as good as it gets for a portable gaming rig, but I'll be using it for UT3 and similar FPS games. $2500 is insane for a portable with 8800M-GTX-SLI and Core2Extreme X9000.

Thank you for help but I'm sorry to say I hardly understand any of it. I have a friend that would but he's far from where I live now. I don't want to sound like I'm making a rude or picky suggestion but could you say go to walmart.com and post links to your top 3 within the price range I mentioned?

Sorry but I can't do that unless you want BAD laptop shopping advice. Most in-store laptop models come equipped with mediocre hardware for the given price. The best laptops available are usually found online, but you must do some homework to select the right one.

I've already pointed you in the direction I would take. I used to build souped up gaming desktops, but being able to game anywhere, anytime led me into the laptop arena.

Walmart isn't a good place to buy laptops. Try this one:

I know you said Walmart, but there are a lot of Bestbuys around. Even if your local one does not carry it, you can still order it online and have it delivered to you.

Since you said nothing about size or weight, only that it has to be good and under $1500. The thing is 17" and weighs 8+ pounds, but it will run pretty much any game you throw at it. You definitely don't need something quite this powerful to run GW or WoW, but just in case you are interested in playing something else.

Hi there, a couple thoughts for you:

#1- Wal Mart sux for computers in general, if you are going to go general retail, do not go Wal Mart. At least pick a store that specializes in electronics ie Best Buy, Circuit City etc...

#2 - You can get a laptop that will easily handle Guild Wars for $1000-1200, don't let anyone convince you that you have to plunk down 2 grand.

#3 - Shop around online and get a better deal - from what I gather, you aren't sure what to look for so I'll post a link or more to get you started.

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...=DYCWHN1&s=dhs

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pa...oductDetail.do

those are just a few quick links, with some extra time and research you could do even better. Good luck

Another thing to consider is GW2. Although its system requirements haven't officially been posted yet, we can bet that it will probably have higher hardware requirements than the current GW title. Even if this is not the case, it is definitely safer to buy more hardware than minimum GW requirements.
