Well I wanted to level him up to 20 but there is something wrong with him he has been level 12 forever. Ive cleared parts of the desert, ive done some farming with him and ive even done wurms with him and he just wont level. Is there any way to check his xp because I think its frozen.

I may be incorrect, but I believe that they must be in agro radius to get exp.
If you are flagging him to far away, he wouldn't get anything.

if you have any big quests left do them and tehn take the reward with him in group. I leveled a few heros from 16(?) to 20 that way.

Prophecies takes AGES to level heroes in... Obviously you have NF, so do a couple of quests there and he'll level in no time. It's even better if you have EOTN. I levelled my heroes from 11-20 in about 2 hours of sporadic playing.

if you have factions, you can just hfff to level them.
