Hi, all.
I started playing Guild Wars this past weekend, reached level 8, and was pretty much set to head into the post-Searing world. The someone asked me if I'd gotten the Tapestry Shred from Gwen. I hadn't, but looked into how I could get it and here is the timeline as I think it went for me...
Completed the quest to Find Gwen's flute.
Picked up the 'Adventure with an Ally' quest.
Went back into Ascalon to find someone who could team up for the Ally quest.
Found someone and completed Ally quest.
Later on saw merchants who sold the Flute and Girl's Cape and bought the Flute (Gwen would not take it as she already had a Flute and Cape)
Learned about the Tapestry shred.
Gave Gwen approx. 9 flowers...no Tapestry Shred.
The only way I can figure Gwen ended up with the Flute and the Cape (I was not paying attention to whether or not she had them at each point) is that the person I teamed with had already given them to her.
If that is the case, at this point, can I even get the Shred? Should I just start over? Is that even worth the trouble?
Thanks for any information or advice you can provide.

I think you can get the shred if you give her a ton of flowers in one sitting. Its been a long time since I got a shred though and even when I gave her the flute and cape last time I tried to get it, I ended giving about 20 flowers with still no shred.
Its only worth the time if you want the Flute off-hand

To make a distinction between Gwen's Eye of the North Quests:
Fire and Pain
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fire_and_Pain
"(only if there is a Red Iris Flower, Tattered Girl's Cape, Small Girl's Cape or Preserved Red Iris Flower in inventory, broken flutes do not work)"
Then and Now, Here and There
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Then_...Here_and_There
Required Hero: Gwen
Must be a character from Prophecies.
Must have a Tapestry Shred in your inventory.
So to acquire "Fire and Pain" a simple Red Iris Flower will work, however to get "Then and Now, Here and There" you must have a Tapestry Shred.
So, unfortunately you must remake that character and get the Shred before grouping with someone else or make another character to get the Shred. As stated by others, it is a known "glitch".
Good Luck.

Thanks for the explanations. I should have known there was something off about that kid when she just skipped around telling me about apple pie as I was fighting for my life.
Does her mother know what she sees on her "adventures"?
Anyway, I guess now I decide my next step. Luckily, with only a few hours (ok, maybe it was 8 or 9) invested, starting over is not a big deal. Especially if I can figure out how to get my 3k in cupcake money over to the new character.

Take her through to Post, deposit the Cupcakes in storage and THEN delete
When you restart, I recommend finding Gwen's flute for her, then just giving her Red Irises - taken 3 characters through that way, usually only takes 5 to 8 of them. Never bought the flute or small girl's cape yet.
Don't take Adventure With an Ally before you've got it. Or Across the Wall, or whatever it's called. Or team up with anyone
