Maybe you guys have an idea why I can't run GW on Ubuntu (8.04) apart from having ATi card... Latest ati driver is installed and GW keeps saying that unrecoverable graphical fault or something and it stops running. I really have no idea what to do. I tweaked wine like hell, was messing with registry, i have no idea...
Thanks in advance
Wine and ATi hates me

because GW doesn't support Linux/Unix Systems
GW only works on Windows en Mac
never tried with WINE, though
PS: it's not the ATI-card, i have an ATI card and don't have any problems
Maybe an older graphical card?

Some people can get it to work with ATi cards. Its an ati 9600pro 256ram. The problem is that ATi makes such crappy drivers for linux... And why I can't get it to run is a mystery...

do you have 3d acceleration enabled?
if so
should return "direct rendering: Yes"
did you install the ati drivers via apt, or the binary drivers they supply on their website?
also, if you have compiz enabled, disable it before starting gw; I played it one time with compiz running and got a corrupted .dat file, which I had to redownload
if so
Code:
glxinfo |grep direct

It is most probably because of what you said already, ATi drivers for Linux are not the best. And Wine is far from perfect.

Yup, got direct rendering, i can run native apps. I installed the drivers from the ati site. I know that ati sucks and wine isnt the best but some guys managed to run gw with wine... I wonder what i missed...

You said you tried different registry keys, but I'd recommend using the instructions found here:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...rsion&iId=9194
if you didn't already.
If that doesn't help, you'd probably be better off looking for help in the wine section of ubuntuforums.com:
http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=313
And, if all else fails, I hate to say it but it may come down to a corrupted Gw.dat file.

I don't think its the GW.dat but I'll try to redownload it. Who knows. Thanks for the help mate.

I have heard that ATI cards are plagued on Linux etc, there was a thread around here about it once I think.
I'll try to dig it up, it may or may not be related to your problem though. Could be the reason why you are getting that ''Graphical Fault'' perhaps?
