None. They are all equal to me.

But if I had to say, I would say Warrior because you need to be smart with Frenzy and your entire build in general.
Especially as a Shock Axe, since it's a multi-dimensional build.

I found Rangers extremely easy to pick up though, seeing as it is my primary character.

It really depends, playing as a mesmer came easily for me, however playing as a warrior was more difficult, I don't know why, it just was.

Mesmers, because you can't "practice" with them in PvE properly. Granted, most PvE-only builds don't apply to PvP, but their principle do.

For instance, a warrior's "role" on most teams would be smashing and crashing everything he can see, you can easily do that in PvE.
A monk's job is to heal and prot, which can also easily be done in PvE.
A mesmer's job is shutdown, which is utterly useless in PvE, since the enemy count you go up against make your hexes and interrupts redundant. Sure, empathy might shut down a warrior, but PvE warriors don't care, and when you're up against a group composed of nothing but warriors, your use is quite limited.
Therefore, finding good mesmers might be quite a problem, very few players jump straight into GW PvP, they often take the "detour" into PvE.

Apart from mesmer, I'd say that monk would be second, due to the responsibility you carry. If you miss a prot or a heal, someone dies. If a warrior misses an attack, he's not as useful as a warrior that hits, but he isn't endangering his team much (except in a few scenarios).

As for the easiest, I'd say ranger and/or paragon, since attacking from a range gives a tremendous overview of the battlefield, which makes it very easy to draw decisions on what to do and what not to do.

I know I lol'ed, mesmer isn't that hard, all you need to do is tab around and interupt anything important, i.e if your playing offensively stuff like aegis and for defense things like an ele. And no before you all rage at me, I can't play a good mesmer, I fail at interupting =P

By far the hardest class to master and play in the game is Warrior, believe me, ask anyone who knows anything about PvP in the game, and yes i'm talking about PvP, why? Because every class is easy in PvE, it doesn't matter what you run.

A good warrior needs to know when to apply pressure, he needs to know how to apply pressure and he needs to know WHERE to apply the pressure, and all of this things are extremely situational. They will vary in different matches and also vary at different times in each match. Now as well as this the warrior needs to tell THE WHOLE team what to do, and where to go.

Compare that to the roll of the mesmer who just needs to shut down some skills and these normally depend on two things, whether your pushing or whether you being pushed.

Eddie, what about things like Diversion, Shame ect.?

The role of a Mesmer is similar to a Ranger, except Mesmers do more hex shutdown and Rangers do more condition shutdown.

And D-Shot > anything a Mesmer has.

For me, the hardest class to play is the Assassin. To play one properly, you have to really know the skills and how to keep your attack skill chain moving so that you get in, kill, and get out fast.

As to the easiest to play, for me that is standard heal monk. The second character I created was my monk, and I love playing her almost as much as I like playing my ritualist. I can practically run my heal build in my sleep, and frequently run heal for the survivors in my alliance.

Seeing the comments above about mesmers, I play strictly PvE, and love playing my mesmer. It took a while to get used to her, but once I learned the skills, she became one of my favorite three characters.

Now this is an interesting question.
I'd say for PvE the hardest class to play with would not be the mesmer (specially not with the PvE only skills) but the assassin.
The assassin is from my point of view a very potent class but needs a team to fit into to be most effective.
Since it's easier to tank & spank and not make a balanced team builds the only 'PUG' role the assassin is most effective in would be something like critical barrager.
Says a lot about the players but assassins and mesmers have one disadvantage, they are mainly single target classes and PvE seems to be mainly about aggroing as many foes as possible and nuke them as fast as you can.

For PvP however, this would be entirely different.
For me the hardest classes to play there would be the melee ones.
Just because you need to see when a target is getting PS and don't waste skill on that. Switching targets is harder when you are in frontline.
I'm biased on monks in PvP, they are frequent targets but that does not make them the hardest class to play.

I would have to say that mesmer isnt that hard to play. For a long time I was playing mesmer and going through most of the game with just hench. I would say that assasin is probably the hardest to be good at. Have you ever tried to pug with an assasin. Nobody wants you on their team even if they have never played with you because honestly how many good assasins are there out there. Warriors have alot of room for error so its not hard to play with them even with a not so great build. If you are a monk you can get into any group you want. Of course that doesnt mean its easy to be a monk.

I'd go with Ranger.

Most classes are pretty easy to play at an average level, but Ranger is probably one of the hardest to be truly good at.

I herd using shame on teh spike and counting to x - 3 for diversion waz hard?

But yeah, shame and diversion aren't hard to use really, shame on spikes as said above (most of the time) and diversion for things like bsurge, i.e skills with a short recharge, things like bsurge (well the old version) were nearly spammed on recharge, so counting down the recharge minus the time taken to cast diversion is really not to hard, know whata mean?

I'm not saying mesmers are the easiest class to play, far from it, they do take quite a bit of skill, i'm just saying compared to playing an awesome warrior, they're nothing.

I'd agree with this, Rangers are an extremely hard to class to actually be good at, this is then enhanced by the fact they are out doing there own thing alot of the time and actually need to know what they're doing in terms of movement rather than just having the warrior tell them where to go but i'd still put them second to warrior.

Your logic is absolutely terrible, just because a team doesn't want something doesn't mean it's hard to play, it means there are better alternatives. Monks are wanted on every team because there is no better alternative, they're the best at what they do. Assassins aren't wanted because there ARE better alternatives, like dervishes and warriors.

Assassins would have to be one of the easiest classes to play, shadow step, 1,2,3,4 shadow step back, rinse and repeat. There, btw ign is Eddie Sells Out if you want to donate anything for teaching you how to play assassin.

Agree if it would not have been for the way PvE works and specially the chapter the assassin was introduced into, Factions.

One of the main problems for PUG assassins in Factions are the exploding afflicted.
That, combined with people not understanding the role of the assassin and playing it like the movies is what gave the assassin a bad name.
"Yay, me Chuck N / Bruce L. They can't die, so I should also be invulnerable."

A mission where I had a lot of fun playing my assassin before I deleted him was Gyala.
Specially the first fight at the turtles, where foes come from different sides.
Target monk, step in, chain, kill, switch target to next monk.
But that's not how PvE works in general.
Most of the time it's a huge mob that can be nuked when tanked.
No need for an assassin there, there can be only one tank.

I was reading the comments on ranger being ranger being the hardest class and been thinking about it. I agree that it's a hard class to fully master but not sure if it's the hardest.
I played a fair ranger in the past and it's more the very different sets of attributes that make it hard to master. Still have not found a decent BM build for PvE for example, just lack the knowledge.

You've basically just lengthed what I said in a previous post on this page and confirmed what i said in my last post aswell. Making your post completely pointless.

Apart from the last bit about rangers that is, I agree with you there. It's Warriors that are hardest. There's really no discussion for it.

Ritualist B (spirit pooper/channeling)
Ranger
Elementalist

For me running mesmer is pretty simple and my favorite TBH, but I also use illusion in my PvE and then when I rarely foray into PvP (or Shiro) I'll switch up to domination. Illusion of Pain + lack of PvE hex removal = win.

To me the hardest is the sin since it's all about your ability to kill without getting killed, I'm not *too* bad at it but any sin I've ever PUG'd with felt that he was our tank.

Edit: I'm actually pretty impressed that the below monk could make it to THK, aren't you? That takes a skill level most have never even dreamed of.

Yesterday I escorted a guildmate through Thunderhead Keep. There was a lone monk in town who needed the mission, so I carried him along too. This was his build.

Seriously you are the foundation of the group there, calling spike counts over ventrilo and calling targets in game, doing your knockdowns at the right moments while swapping targets. Thats sorts out the men and mice right there.

Assassin is the hardest imo, I have never been able to play it properly. Maybe this is due to the fact that I am mainly TA and RA and the Me/N or necro's that are present on pretty much every team hex me up so bad I litterally can't do anything. I haven't had that many problems playing warrior and ranger is easy for me, it is my main character in PvP... d-shot is just so painful and crip shot is always amusing.

I see many people here are saying mesmer is hard because you have to interupt stuff, well the same goes for ranger. Also, mesmers aren't only for interupting, they are supposed to be shut down so. Honestly, using skills like diversion and shame on the healer's while draining their energy with e-burn/e-surge isn't so hard.. then again I may be wrong :S

Monk is fairly hard, catching spikes in high-end PvP is something that requires time and a lot of practise.. possibly even a fair ammount of talent. Also, you are always going to be the first target and in 4-man teams that really is no fun.

I'd say warrior and monk.

The two most popular professions yet very few people know how to play them proberly. Monks have an excuse because most are made for farming and are only playing to get to certain points in the game.

Warriors have no excuse, bad warriors all say playing warrior is easy and don't realise they suck at it.
