viable PvE Rt/R trapping build?

OK - first off, I'm not looking to be better than a Ranger primary. I have a Rit, and wanted to do more than Chan/Resto with it.

Second - helpful suggestions welcome. Flaming not.

Would this be a viable build:

1. [mighty was vorizun]
2. [serpent's quickness]
3. [flame trap]
4. [barbed trap]
5. [dust trap] - eats up the energy, though!
6. [spike trap]
7. optional - stance [natural stride] for escape; a spirit [EoE] or another
8. a Rez or self-heal

I realize that, without Expertise, energy will likely be a problem.
Not sure about the point spread - maybe Wilderness 12+, Communing 10+, whatever 3rd line 8+ ?

equipment? open to suggestions that might make this work.

Looking to learn about making builds. I know there are people out there who just grok GW, and can spot energy and DPS issues in an instant, and if you can teach me something, please post!

(Oh, I can see it all now... "Why would you want to trap with a Rit anyway?") lol

you're better of with a ranger trapper with [trapper's speed] and stuff
much better then the Rt/r trapper
but if you want to do something you can go for a super splinter weapon barrager with 16 channeling and other weapon spells
works fine too
OR the spirit's strenght assassin wich i'll PM to you if you want it

No point really, because Rangers get the ability to go /Me and take Echo for Dust Trap aswell as having Expertise and runes.

OK - so, given that Rt/R isn't going to be better than a R/Me, or R/x for that matter, the question is: as a Rit primary, what kinds of builds do work for that - as secondary as they may be?

Expertise is necessary, otherwise you're stuck pretty fast with none, which, obviously, wastes a bunch of time. R primary is really the only way to go (I've seen, anyway) for trapping.

Murr... I'll try to be of actual help, as many people seem very reluctant to do so...

[build prof=Rt/R Spawning=12+1+1 Wild=12 Resto=3][Serpent's Quickness][Spirit Channeling][Dust Trap][Flame Trap][Barbed Trap][no skill][no skill][Flesh of my Flesh][/build]

Or you could use Energetic was Lee Sa for E-management...

[build prof=Rt/R Spawning=12+1+1 Wild=12 Resto=3][Serpent's Quickness][Spike Trap][Dust Trap][Flame Trap][Barbed Trap][no skill][Energetic Was Lee Sa][Flesh of my Flesh][/build]

Like they said it probably won't be all that effective, but it's what you asked for.

You can do Major or Sup runes of Spawning, depends all on preference, really.

Edit: I'd also recommend using [Dwarven Stability] to maintain [Serpent's Quickness].

There are a number of spirits in Wilderness Survival you could use to fulfill Spirit Channeling's conditional requirement, so this one should actually work, not well, but work.

Thanks, Kyomi

D-oh! I forgot to say that I don't have EotN!! So, builds that use only the first 3 campaigns would be appreciated.

[attuned was] won't affect traps, only spells and biding rituals
[energetic was] looks like ti would help, but is EotN - same w/[dwarven stability]\

thanks for the suggestions, though!

Not very up to speed on Spawning Power skills. ;p

I think there was a build using [Spirit Channeling] I saw once, but I don't remember what it was...

I'd say stick to Ranger primary, but if you must, find some sort of energy management such as [skill]Offering of Spirit[/skill]

The synergy is there!

Then you could use some super-duper Resto heals between running right up to people and trapping them in the face ^_~ ... something I always wanted to try 'cept you'd run outta energy after 3 seconds

Thanks, Stormlord! I knew you'd have good suggestions!

Tranquil would help prevent getting interrupted, but what about energy management? Is that something I should get via my wand & off-hand? Being a bit n00b at this Rit-thing (and on r2 of Survivor now, btw - though this is my 5th run at the title of LS on a Rit, playing thru not farming faction), I thought to use [mighty was] for the +30, as well as the +15 armor.

Oh - and I'm looking for Rt/R trapper builds, not just Rt/R builds. Splinter/barrage (or Volley, but no EotN folks!) is done to death. I had another post looking for Rt/R beast builds, but the same response there, too. "Don't bother unless you're a Ranger primary!" I understand that, but I'm not looking to dominate the game. Heck, PvE is just AI anyway, so it doesn't care what I do, or how badly I win/fail! So, this is all about me finding new builds that I enjoy playing just for the fun of it.

Work for what? Solo trapping areas? If you want a solo build, you can try the 330 VwK; I can farm hard mode with it faster than the 55, but of course it faces the same limitations as many solo builds: won't work in many areas/conditions, vulnerable to disenchants and interrupts, etc. Go look it up on pvxwiki for instructions on how to use it if you decide to give it a go, sequence, equipment and timing are very critical. On the other hand, it's very satisfying to finally go into hard mode and take stuff out on your own.

[build prof=Rt/Mo Resto=12+1+3 Prot=10 Smiting=8 Spawning=2+3][Vengeful was Khanhei][Vengeful Weapon][Protective Spirit][Spirit Bond][Reversal of Damage][Retribution][Essence Bond][Balthazar's Spirit][/build]

[br] takes care of the very obvious energy woes, and [weaken armor] lets you blow stuff up with [piercing trap]

In the grand scheme of things it's really quite bad but... who cares? Rits shitting traps is lulz xD

No. Do NOT use vorizun. Three reasons:

-Casting Vorizun would cause you to drop Tanasen.
-After burning through the extra 30 energy you get, what would you do then?
-It's a bad skill.

Tanasen would work but, as you said, energy would be a problem. How about using [Energetic Was Lee Sa] along with Herald's Insigna? You'd get the extra armor, and you'd get the energy REGEN. Use [serpents quickness] to counter the long recharge, and spam traps faster.

Thanks, Raseak - I haven't capped [vengeful] yet. But when I do...!!! lol

Thanks, again, Stormlord. D-uh! I have Heroes!!! :smacks forehead: Obvious, now, of course - use a Necro Battery!!

@ Cosmic- [energetic] is EotN, and I don't have it. I have [serpent's quickness] in the "build" I started my post with for exactly that reason! So, I am picking up things as I go along! Shows the value of reading smart posts!

I'll play around with it. And I didn't think about what I wanted to use it for - simply wanted to see what I could do with a Rit besides Chan/Resto. There's still Rt/A builds to try, and Rt/W, etc., etc.

Well, it's good for laughs if nothing else!

I tried it out setting traps for the Stone Summit in Grenth's Footprint, just to see how it works, and I found that using [earthbind] as the spirit "bait" made Carvers and the Stone Summit Herders fall down and stay down for the duration of [flame trap] and most of [dust trap]! It was funny to watch them rush us and fall down, get toasted, dusted, and then limp after us while they bled!

But, I have also found: I don't know how to run a trapper build, let alone a Rt one. lol I guess you go out as a trapper team, right? So you can stack tons of traps on each other? Lots to learn, still. but fun! And good to know that I can do other things with my Rit besides support. (I H&H anyway, so - like when I was running my Mesmer - I'm pretty much free to screw around when I want while I use the H&H to handle most threats. Not being able to nuke - though I do have an Ele I haven't played in a while - I get bored doing just support duty.)

Thanks for the tips, gang!

And thanks again, Stormlord Alex, for pointing out using the Necro Battery! That helped tons having that energy! As I haven't capped [tranquil was] yet for this Rit yet, I took [weapon of warding] to give me some chance to block attacks from Rangers and try to prevent interrupts. Mostly, though, I set my traps and then pulled, or waited for the patrol to sense the spirit and run into the traps.

When I'm bored sometimes I run a build kinda like this. I suppose if you like trapping, it might appeal to you, although it has it's weaknesses.

[build prof=Rt/Any Spawning=12+1+1 Channeling=12+1][Destruction][Gaze of Fury][Agony][Bloodsong][Ritual Lord][Boon of Creation][Rupture Soul][Ancestor's Rage][/build]

Basically, poop out your damage spirits at a rate of 1 every 3 seconds, and work your way to the enemy. If melee mobs you, or when you're in the enemy ranks, use Rupture to punish them with area damage and blindness. Try to rupture spirits only if your cooldown is ready to make another one of the same kind right after rupturing the first. (For this reason Destruction is a good first choice at about a 7 second cooldown... it's probably ready to cast again.) That way you can always have 4 pressure spirits up. Meanwhile, spam A-Rage or whatever your take in that slot inbetween spirits.
