Hi I played Everquest from 2000 till 2005. Ran one of the largest guilds on my server and what not. I got out of it cause well I do like the ability to play games myself alot more than groups. I do like the option of playing in groups and stuff. I also hated the big times raids where you needed 50 to 100 people just to beat something.

I am looking for a game. I do want a chance to play alone an with people. I do like a medevil type game. I love D an D games but i loved EQ too. What im asking is, is this game worth buying this late in the game. Will it be fun enough for me to play will i be able to solo alot. And with GW2 coming soon is it better to just wait for that. Well Thanks

You can solo or do things with heroes and henchies everything in every campaign.

Yes, you can solo 90% of this game no problem. Others, mainly elite areas or PVP, you must form real teams.

You'll still be in parties, but with artificial intelligence. (Henchmen or Heroes. Heroes are customisable henchmen that you can get with Nightfall or Eye of the North campaign.)

Also, you can choose to group up with a mixture of heroes, hench and real people.

Is it everquest like. I generally play a palidan type character. I just dont wanna spend 39.99 on GW an the Expansion and hate it. Can you kinda tell me what its like. I mean are their open areas to wander and talk to people are there shops , can you own houses and stuff.

Well it's not a persistant world where you can wander around, meet people during your quests and have to share the spawns. There are towns you meet up, but all your killing is done in instances, where only you and your party are.

There are all sorts of merchants standing outside. Rune traders, dye traders, common and rare materials. You can't walk into buildings to explore them. As such, there are no houses.

As for skills, you basically are limited to 8 skills on your bar. You can change these in towns or outposts, but in an instance, you're stuck with it.

The best thing I love about Guild Wars is no more: "LOOKING FOR HEALER" Now that there are henchman for your disposal, you do not have to wait any longer to get things done. This game teachs you in a friendly way, yet you might not learn all of it. The fastest paced one is FActions, then Nightfall, and then Prophecies. But this game offers that no-online fee, no repairing armor, and a moderate challenge with pleasant rewards.

If you ever plan to play, be sure to tell me or send me a message. The one thing I love to do in spare time is to help new players [:

Edit: Guild Wars gives your the freedom of choice to play with the computer or with your friends, or both! And with that said, you don't spend your time grinding and killing monsters. Just do the quest, which are mostly easy, and you should be getting into the groove in no time.

the skill bars i have noticed compared to other games are quite different however its not as bad as it seems.

You get to select from 100's of different skills from 10 different professions however you can only have 2 professions at a time

its actually kind of fun trying to find out which 8 skills work best on a bar

however if you don't like experimenting with builds there are sights such as pvxwiki.com who offer builds for you to use

if you really want to look into gw and learn the most about the gameplay I would suggest going to http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page it tells you everything you will ever need to know about guild wars

as a after note if you do decide to play i would be happy to help as like quantisha its fun teaching new people how guild wars works

No waiting for spawn times. If you need to kill a Boss, grab a group and head out. Except for very specific areas, the Boss will be there when you look for him. In those certain areas, there may be a different Boss spawn than you are looking for and you will have to zone out and try again, but that is only a couple of areas.

I would recommed getting one of the 3 games and give it a try. There have been a couple of people who have said they would be willing to help you out, myself included. Which one to get is your personal decision. It's cheaper (in game) to start with Prohecies but you don't get Heroes. If you want to do the Hero/Hench way, then I'd recommed Nightfall.

I think you can download a trial version if you wanna give it a go to see what it's like, from what you've said though I think you'll enjoy it.

The only 8 skills thingy does sound annoying but it makes sense, if you had an 'all skills' bar you would have a screen full of skill boxes lool

1 - You can still buy this game and still be able to finish all the campaigns (if you wanted to) before the release of GW2.

2 - Posted earlier, Henchmen are the perfect way to solo or to fill in that missing gap in your party. This would cut down on the time to waste searching for what you need in the party. And since Henchmen are located in all the outposts you would run into during the story, you always have the time to solo it out.

3 - With GW2 coming out, you can transfer over particular things over from your GW character to GW2, which would thn provide who-knows-what. These things that you can put in the Hall Of Monuments (The place in Eye of The North that allows you to put these feats) include:

Titles: Beating a game is probably the most easiest one.
Armor: A Bit pricey for some, but if you hang on to your money, you'll have some fancy armor to display
Minipets: This is quite a fairly easy one, since minipet prices are dropping, for some at least.

Those are the easier things you can display at the Hall of Monuments. I'm sure that if you get the game, you would love to see some efforts of your GW1 character be remembered in Guild Wars 2. Well, if you have any more concerns, tell us, and we will answer, in a friendly way without the attitude. [:

Well as I said i think I said. I was a ever cracker. The guild I ran had over 250 people at one point 600 plus characters. I ran a family style guild that no one said would work and it last 5 years till I got sick of paying monthly fees. And the fact I want a game where I can solo sometimes and raid other times and group when I want to. I do hope my computer will run it. Im assuming it can. I am leaning towards buying The guild wars platnium package. Since its the cheapest one with the greatest value. Then Nightfall would be next.

or

Factions Platnium with Guild Wars Game of the year edition and the bonus mission pack for 39.99 us

I think you best buy the Platinum edition then...

However Factions is my favorite campaign(there are not many people that like factions, it's just me and a few others...maybe 5% of the ppl that play)

Hmmm...as you're new to it...buy Platinum edition(with Eye of the North)

The Koz

From reading things. I think Factions Platnium is the best way to go for me.

Nono, I just like the Factions campaign because of the looks.

Prophecies+Eye of the North(=Platinum) is imo the way to go for a new player. Thats what I also told you in PM.

Gl and hf

edit: btw, I didn't hear from a factions platinum edition yet...oh well, I don't go every day to the gaming shop.

Well my thing is this. People have told me factions is probably the best one to do for a new player to start. I am also a very expieranced gamer. I catch things fast and learn how to kick ass quickly. So i need something kinda nuts for me to stay interested. I guess i want what gives the most content in the most diverse manner.

proph+eotn gives a lot more gaming hours than factions :P

anyway, it looks like you decided to buy factions, it doesn't REALLY matter where you start, so, enjoy it!

Nope im gonna go with what you said i hope it all works on my computer lol. Once i finish my fries ill go across the street to best buy and grab it an be playing by 730 eastern. Last question when i play d an d type games I like being a paladin / mage like character. Is there any class here that you can tank an cast.

I don't think it's smart to compare Guild Wars classes(or professions, thats how they are called in GW) to classes from other games. But if you want it anyway...hmm...tank would be warrior or possibily elementalist, cast would be any of the 'casters': Monk, Mesmer, Ritualist, Necromancer, Elementalist. If you look at the 2 lists, it would be Ele, it's a fun profession to play as well.

Get the Factions Platinum. Proph + Factions + Bonus is better than Proph + eotn. Besides you can find eotn for about $10 sometimes whereas Factions will be $20+ all the time. You get more skills with the Factions + Proph than the Proph + eotn as well.

Don't be folled by the login screen.

GW:Eye of the North is the loading screen for all chapters.

Unless you purchased both in a package deal you might only have the GW chapter you thought you bought.

Also there are 2 ways you can go about things once you start playing.

1) Just create a char and each map will load up as you enter them, downloading all new content for that particular map only.
2) Use the -image comand and download every update, this takes hours but will speed up your game play once its completed.

Honiestly Im getting the basic jist of things. Just trying to understand what 8 skills are the best to us for my type of character. Im already to the point where i can leave the beginning part i think. But i wanna finish all the quests and stuff there. Learn some more and do things the right way. The best players in these games are the ones that take their time and learn how to be the best possible. I am getting some great people to help me too. Thank you all. This has been very enjoyable so far.
