limewire uses 90-100% of cpu
Tamuril elansar
so i'm running a intel pentium 4 single core at 3096 ghz, and limewire uses around 100% of my cpu all the sudden. This has been goin on for around 3-4 month :S any1 got an idea what it is?
Swift Thief
It's cause of the single core. If you get a dual-core or quad-core, and octo-core computer, you can run limewire, download stuff, and play Guild Wars at the same time. Or else you're basically stick with doing stuff separately, thus, wasting time.
Tamuril elansar
its not that, if i press cntrl + alt + delete i see limewire using 96% of cpu, it never had that before
also, i only run internet at same time.
also, i only run internet at same time.
jiggles
Also, stop using limewire
seriously.
seriously.

You realize that by downloading limewire and not finding a specific box, you just agreed to share every single file on your computer? Just thought i'd let you know.

By default, LimeWire only shares what is in the dedicated shared folder (in Vista username\documents\limewire\shared). If you really wanted, you could configure it to not share anything - but the p2p community aren't over-fond of leechers.

A peer-to-peer file sharing program/network.

Best thing you can do is uninstall Limewire. If you absolutely must have a P2P application, try Shareaza.

Ditch that bloated POS that is Limewire and get yourself µTorrent.
DarkFlame
Delete it and find yourself a new copy. Or as Azagoth suggests, use something else.
Tamuril elansar
already reinstalled it alot, didn't work.
Golgotha
Its because Limewire (at one time at least) is a java application. That, and maintaining all your shared folders (constant scanning and file integrity checks) can really cause tremendous load on a PC. Over time it becomes more bloated and causes more problems.
Honestly, Limewire is junk and contains mostly all fake files with trojans, viruses or the screeching mp3s. Just find another program if you must download illegaly.

Limewire SUCKS.
Snograt
Heh, just for the record, I've never had a problem with it. Then again, I have the paid-for version, which certainly makes a difference.
As to legality, whenever you start to d/l a file, LimeWire will pop up a requester saying "A valid license could not be found for this file - continue anyway?"
Then, obviously, you click "NO" and find a legal copy to download.
There's probably one in there somewhere...

problem with torrents is that i download stuff at 1.5kb a sec :\
Snograt
That's not a torrent - it's a trickle!
LimeWire handles torrents anyway
Ctrl+Shift+Esc, Processes tab, right click on LimeWire.exe (or LimeWire.exe *32 if on a 64bit system...) and check priority. It probably says normal - try dropping it a notch (especially if it's above normal)
Might help - you never know.

I use limewire pro, dunno though limewire shouldn't be using more than 5% cpu usage unless of course it is scanning files to be shared and or it's re-checking a torrent file.
street peddler
if youre just listening to music use winamp or itunes....limewire is bad news.

Sorry, but you're nothing but a deluded sheep who's just decided to jump onto the "Oh, if it's P2P it must be illegal" bandwagon! Funny enough, we use quite a few P2P applications at work to download large files quickly and securely, so before you hit that reply button I suggest you think about your post first.

And of course we're all purchasing these downloaded files legally.

*Grabs the popcorn and sits down to watch the arguing*
I used to use limewire, but I stopped.
Now I have a 15$ a month subscription with Zune, so I can download unlimited music. The only downside is the DRM rights, if you have to re-format your computer, that means no backing up music. Gotta go re-download everything, but no sweat for me.
It actually let's me get rid of old music I don't really listen to anymore and save space, and the music I like/want comes back, and thereon other new songs.
