Verata's Aura
the savage nornbear
If I were to take my ranger into an Alliance Battle with [Verata's Aura], tossed my extra points into death magic (to meet the 4 req.), would I be able to effectively steal an opposing minion master's army?
Or would I be limited to 4 minions?
And if I am limited to 4, what happens to the other ones?
Thanks for any help you necros can give me, my expertise in this proffession is limited.

snaek
u would be only able to control 4 minions
im not exactly sure wut would happen to teh others
either, 1) u'd steal them, then they'd automatically die from exceeding the max (like when u try to summon another minion when ur already at max)
or 2) u jus wont steal em
i would assume its teh 1st, if i had to guess
btw...req is greater than 4...not 4 or greater
(in otherwords, u need at least 5pts)

Yer, I do this AB a fair bit when I run a toucher, u only steal 4 in that case, kinda sucks coz u hav the whole energy problem if u lower expertise to far, so u usally hav a set with two 15-1s on them.
Its great coz I run a toucher to annoy people coz I was sick of running into touchers in AB so I started using one, and if u get ur Verata working well enough its funnier again to see all an MMs minons turn on them :P
Ill post a build if you want when I get home

Yeah I used to do this when I used part necro in AB... however its easier to either kill the MM, making his minions go nuts on everyone, or drag them into the base defender.

You would steal ALL minions in range, even if there was more than one MM present. However, any minions exceeding your minion cap would die instantly.
I've said for a while that VA is grossly overpowered.
It needs a 2 second cast time (so it can be interrupted) AND it needs to steal a percentage of the minions based on your DM level and the MM's DM level. There is just NO way a ranger, or any other class, should be able to break the bond between a 16 DM MM and his minions. Even another 16 DM MM should only be able to take half.

It's only useful in AB, where it's super easy to raise a minion army. It's hardly overpowered.

There ARE areas with monsters that have it as well.
It's like a permanent WoD or Blackout for MMs. Imagine a 3 minute Blind for warriors....

This is getting off topic, so lets stop.

Does that make non-fleshy creatures overpowered?

This skill would come in handy in Ft Aspenwood as well.

Verata's is the bane of MM's, it steals all minions regardless of Death Magic (DM) lvl all minions you can't control are killed off instantly. Keep in mind though at 4 DM you'll still be subject to the 50% failure rate, so best to put 5 points in it.
On Carinae's comment on it being overpowered it truley is, no one other skill can ruin a build as completely as Verata's Aura. It's the equivilent of having a [Gaze of Fury] that affects all spirits in range, or a skill that could instantly kill a beastmaster's pet.
It really should steal minions based on DM lvls instead of all minions, something like; Verata's Aura: Up to 2...8...10 hostile animated undead in the area become bound to you...

I used this skill in Ft Aspenwood Luxon a few hours ago - the Kurzick MM was perturbed. But, we had 4 leavers and 1 leech, so we lost anyway...
Btw, a Kurzick MM at the green gate works really well. His minions form a wall that can be difficult to get past.

I think it's only effective if you actually have points in death magic to begin with. I'd rather use [Verata's Gaze] because it has no sacrifice, low energy cost and decent recharge so it's pretty usable. Just verata's gaze a flesh golem or other minions and the minions will kill each other.

That's if you're trying to use it as it was intended (for a Necromancer to steal minions off of others).
The minion cap means it's not really worth it to try that any more. But the cap does introduce an instant massacre of a minion horde, which is what's being discussed.
