Why is it such a pain to change password?
hellknight17
I go to change my password to my account and i have to sign up for an account on NCSofts main web page. Which is fine. Then i go to add an account serial code and it say the code im entering straight off my case is invalid. Then i go to look at the account keys on my account through GW and it does show me my keys only the names of what i have access to. What am i doing wrong here i just want to change my password?

Many people find it a pain. I find it to be a pain. Nonetheless, it's the only way (that I know of) to change one's password... so deal with it...
Go to NCSoft site, enter username/password there, then change to whatever.

I go there and they show no accounts for me so i assume that i have the enter a key code. It says mines invalid. Shouldn't all my key codes be there if Im going there straight from the log on screen? I am glad its kinda difficult but really I should be able to change where i log onto GW not go to some other site. What happens if i reset password? I am scared to do that.

u can change it in game. log in and then press options ta bottom left i think or righ tnot sure. from there just change it. thats how ive always done it no sign ups. u only need need to sign up to resset your pass from anet

Ya, I know what you mean I tried to change mine once and couldn't get so I just left it lol. They should have left it the original way they had it.

Unless your account is tied to plaync you can change it through the game client.
snaek
u shouldnt be needing to enter any keycodes...
jus click the button that says change password
set the new one, and ur done

Also, I never tried to link to PlayNC until now.

Poor futureproofing.
The original GW client works fine if you disregard the NCsoft account.
Once you tie your GW account to a NCsoft account in order to buy stuff, things get all shitty.
Your username and password is locked in the client and you can only change things through NCsoft.
So awkward... -.-

You'd rather they make it easy so when someone steals your account they can easily change the pw too?

Kind of like cd copy protections, they just annoy honest customers that want to use their legal right to have one backup copy, whilst those that want to pirate the cds, WILL do it.

Because ANET isn't really very good at planning things out over the long term. In case you haven't noticed, Guild Wars is kind of a touch and go thing. I figure they're learning how to design video games so that when they choose to release a real one it's nice and polished.
Using that sort of logic we ought to put hedge mazes in front of the bank to confound bank robbers. Sure, it'll annoy the first 39,999 normal customers who come to the bank, but it'll slow down that 40,000th guy when he comes to rob the bank!
Adding complication to password procedures is always a stupid idea. If your idea for securing a password is to make it hard for people to use it, you've already failed utterly and completely at securing it at all, because the only person that can make a password secure is the person who's using it.

TOTALLY WRONG
i just checked on 2 non linked accounts and they changed using the anet edit account.
WHEN YOU USED THE STORE AN ACCOUNT WAS AUTOMATICALLY CREATED LINKING IT WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE.
YOU TRIED TO CREATE A SECOND ACCOUNT USING ALREADY REGISTERED ACCOUNT KEYS WHICH IT REASONABLY REGECTED AS A HACKER TRYING FOR A FREE ACCOUNT.
OPEN A SUPPORT TICKET AND POLITELY EXPLAIN AND IT WILL BE SORTED OUT FAST.
HAPPENED TO ME SORTED OUT FAST
forgot caplock too lazy to retype sorry

if it was easy to change then it wouldnt be security would it....because then lots of us would change our passwords on a regular basis......and that wouldnt be anets/ncsofts way of doing things

I neede to change my password, and yay for me, I totally forgot user and pass for the NCsoft website. I had to send various tickets, then scans of serial keys and bills, and then the support sent me my user and pass; only then I was able to change my pass. I will never forget those infos again
Goddyfather
I gave up on that ages ago, won't even bother
