shadows glitching
zamial
Problem: shadows from me/heroes/hench/and monsters during or after death are hanging around. They appear to be moving in place or flashing where the monster dies. It is not a major issue but it is irritating.
System:
intel q6600 oc to 3.14
evga 780i mobo with p04 bios.
8 gigs of ocz ram
2 8800 gt sli no oc
750 watt rosewill Xtreme psu
150 Gb WD raptorX
vista 64 ultimate
I do not have a over heating issue for a fact.
I may have a corrupted .dat file however. I was wondering if this is a "tell tale sign" of a corrupted .dat or something else? My .dat file is over/close to 6 Gb and I am really hopeing to not have to DL the whole thing again.
Thanks for the help.

Certainly a sign of a corrupted .dat. As is the size - a fully -imaged .dat should be around 3.57GB.
Delete the .dat, install the latest one from install disc (Eye of the North, if you have it), then do an -image.
It's still a lengthy download, but it's a hell of a lot better than putting up with glitching - which is likely to get a lot worse.
What ANet should do is always have a gw.dat available for download - maybe coming to an arrangement with FilePlanet or similar.

thanks Snograt I was reallllly hoping to not have to do that but o well. ill do that tonight and post back if it does or does not fix the bug. lol its not too bad unless I slay 15 graspings in the center of the 1st room, at that point I am just about to have a seizure from all the flashing. The 1 thing I was wondering is it better to rename/move my .dat and just -image the whole thing? or use a install disk?
Snograt
I would use the install disc if you have it - it will minimise the amount of downloading you have to do.
Just delete that old .dat - it's severely bloated and will give you nothing but grief.
Just checked my Nightfall DVD - the .dat on there is 2.44GB, so you're ⅔ of the way there. The one on the EotN disc, if you have it, will save you even more downloading.

I used the cd's to reinstall the .dat and the glitch remains.

Hum, graphics drivers then. I run an almost identical system to yours (8gb, QX6700, 2 SLI'd 8800GTXs) and it runs flawlessly. I did think I had a problem with pop-ups, then I realised that the vastly improved graphics on a 22" beautiful monitor was just making it more apparent
You're going to tell me you have the latest nVidia drivers installed, aren't you? :/
Any other games show signs of glitching? Again, I'm expecting you to say no; GW seems to suffer glitches where no other game does, for some reason.
How about temperature - do you monitor that?

yes, I monitor my temps on a regular basis. I use everest ultimate.
I was hoping this was not the case. I was chasing a nvldmkm error untill i installed the p04 bios. GW would cause BSoD or a GW crash error screen appeared randomly. I did find out this was an overheating issue. I have ripped my system apart 5 times now and REALLY don't feel the urge to do it again.
I was convinced that it was a driver that was causing the errors so i kept trying different versions. I am not at my comp now but I do know that I am using a beta version 174. I believe this is for the 9800 cards but we both know that the 9800 is a pre sli 8800 that uses 1 PCI 2.0 slot. I am also very familiar with the driver cleaner programs as well.

I had the same problem under Vista Ultimate 64. I'm trying to remember what I did before I flat-lined my system. I know I was running GW in compatibility mode and I kept getting graphical anomalies. Are you running directx 9?
Snograt
I've had it in Vista x64 with 8GB. In my case it was running beta drivers from nVidia. Strangely enough, Automatic Update offered me old, stable drivers and I haven't had a problem since.
nvldmkm not responding errors are RIFE - just google it (I know you have, zamiel!). There's a different response for everyone who's suffered from it.

Way Out - like I told Snog I'm @ work not on my comp. I think so but not sure atm. Also thanks for the link.
Snog - are you using the auto update offered drivers from nvidia or windows? both have auto update features. also nvldlkm = I has a flavor. What flavor? That is the question but it is seldom pleasant.

Wut?
Just checked and I'm running the latest, stable WHQLs - 169.25. I'm pretty sure that M$ piped them in - but I couldn't absolutely swear to it.
Seems like a lot of nVidia betas are released to counter errors with particular, high-profile games - CoD springs to mind. Seem to fix that game and trash everything else in my experience ^^
[edit] [email protected] Way Out - you quoted me before I edited, having realised that zamial has 2 8800GT, not a 9800

I think Crisis was released with beta drivers. Don't quote me on that. I just flat-lined my rig and loaded FC8_64 (soon to load 9). I got tired of dealing with Microsoft. Vista Ultimate was fine for awhile, however, I kept having driver related error that Microsoft still have as "unknown". By the way, I am loving the 9800, however, they generate more heat than the sun.
