I dont know how many times my virus scanner starts up when im in the middle of something and minimizes GW getting me killed.
I would like an option to keep on top of other apps so this wont keep happening.

Acctully I think it's a setting in you virus detector that makes it the priority application a nd pops it to the top, try looking around the settings of that and see what you can find out.

its not just the virus scanner that does it. that was just one example. anything in the background that starts running minimizes GW atleast on my end.

Ok, then try running GW in window mode and not full screen, just sett the window size to damn near the entire screen, applications that begin to run may still pop over your GW but the GW window will stay up make for a faster ands smoother transaction back to GW with one simple click.

I should be able to run full screen without it minimizing. this update wouldnt hurt anyone or anything and it should be very easy to do.

solution #1: run in windowed-mode
solution #2: close all other programs before playing gw

if u want to multi-task...run windowed mode

if u dun want to multi-task, theres no reason to have those other programs open, now is there?

I run in full screen mode. I do not close other applications before running GW. I do not have the game minimize because another program starts up.

I do not know what/where it is, but it is not a game setting, it is a Windows setting. Play around with your Windows settings, as there is nothing Anet can do to prevent this from happening. It is something you already can prevent.

Gah I know what you mean. I try to shut down everything but for some reason some random program like acrobat reader will decide that it's time to ask me if I want to update right in the middle of GW. Annoying.

Yup, hate it too. But it's a windows OS thing, not GW. Not sure anet could do anything about it.

there IS something anet can do about it. with any program i write that I want to stay on top theres a simple line that says <program>.TopMost = true;

Not saying that there isn't a technical way to do it, but that MS might not like it. I'm pretty sure MS would have issues if every company started hardcoding priority levels for their own programs.

GW writes code for game to always be on top.
Adobe writes code for programs to always be on top.
Norton/McAfee/any writes code for program to always be on top.

Who wins?

It isn't the games job, its yours. Fix YOUR problem, and stop expecting someone else to do it for you.

I'm hard pressed to think of programs that will interrupt GW that also lack a method to disable that interruption. Unless we're discussing malware, and then a "high priority" on GW wouldn't matter, anyway. It's not ANet's job to configure your PC's software; that's yours.

Good suggestion Magma.

Easiest fix is to run GW in windowed mode, and make sure all those other programs are not set to update automatically. I used to have a problem when I first started playing GW, but I have since fixed MY problem.

Im not EXPECTING them to do it its a SUGGESTION. thats what this thread is for.
If they dont want to do it they dont have to.
If you dont like the suggestion thats YOUR problem.
See I can do caps too. cool isnt it.

You didn't read my post did you? I am not a programmer, so I don't KNOW this to be true. My belief, however, is that Anet can't do as you suggest, as it is a Window's function, not a GW function. If Anet could do as you suggest, then there would be malware making a plethora of other programs stay on top. And as I asked, who would win?

Norton creates program with code to always be on top.
Anet creates GW to run with code to always be on top.

Both run at same time, which runs on top?
