Advice on Shield Inscriptions for PvE and PvP
wannie
Hello, I've been a Warrior for 33 months now and have used all sorts of shields for different purposes during farming and such, but these days I don't farm as much as I used to. I wanted to ask about what three (or less) shield inscriptions I really need to have with me (as I always put a bow for luring in one of my weapon slots, leaving three available). In the past I used stance and hexed shields but now I use inscriptions.
At the moment I have three +30 shields: 10 vs fire, slashing and -5/20%. What shield inscriptions do you think would be best for PvE that would suit most areas in Guild Wars, and would also be good for PvP? (My Warrior has done most of the PvE maps so now I will be moving into PvP more.)
With the shields I'm using three different types of sword or axe - vamp, sunder and ebon. On my armor I'm using survivor (for PvP) and sentry (for PvE) insignias. There's so many options it's confusing - I just want it to be simple, either: stance, hex and enchantment shields; or three different inscriptions like 10 vs whatever.
So in conclusion I would like to know three genreal inscriptions that would do PvE and PvP, so I won't keep having to change my shields ^
Thanks in advance

well for pve -5(20%) is going to due you fine unless you wanna get 1 for each +10 dmg type however for pvp i believe most bring a 20% blind reduc insignia along with a 20% blind reduc rune somewhere on their armor for b-surge

-20% Blind.
+10AL vs. X.
-5/20% is absolutely horrid, you're best off with a -2 Enchantments or -2 Stance.
If you have a Monk, you'll be enchanted when you need protting.
If you're a Warrior, you should be in a stance most of the time.

Unless you are running a build that doesn't use a stance, go with a +45^stacne/-2^stance inscription and handle. Better than a +30/-5 imo, as long as your always in a stance.

And the first time you face D/W with [Wild Blow] or A/X with [Wild Strike] (shattering build, that aint at least too rare in RA :P) you find yourself with -45 hp instead of + :P
Anyway, for PvP i run -20% blind and +10 AL vs. X and change based on situation. I find -phys dmg stuff kinda useless, as anyone with brains that decide to attack you should be changing to elemental weapon to bypass our +20 AL vs. phys.

I think he was reffering to PvE so no D/Ws and A/Xs with Shattering Assault and Wild Strike
so yeah for PvE I'd definatly use +45/-2 stance. no point getting extra armor shields unless you're in some special area with tons if fire damage(Hell's Precipice maybe) and even than I think 45/-2 stance will be better...
as for PvP, 20% blind reduction/+30 is the best. if you see that there is no blind source at all than change to +45/-2 stance or +30/+10 with various types)

blind=PvP and in a few sections PvE(thinking desert round proph ascent damn mons use it a lot))
elemental=PvE(unless you KNOW you are facing it in PvP)
-2 stance/enchantment=PvE(best overall shield)

must-haves for GvG :
20% blind reduction (main shield, combined with a rune of clarity for more awesomeness)
+10AL vs piercing (for VoD / base ganking)
after that you could get +10AL vs cold/fire/lightning aswell, in case you face spikebuilds that heavely use one element, and for some reason don't blind you 24/7.

For PvE I would go with +30 on all shields, for inscriptions:
+10 armor vs Fire
+10 armor vs Lightning
+10 armor vs Cold
+10 armor vs Fire
+10 armor vs Lightning
+10 armor vs Cold

In PvP, if you're in a situation where someone is trying to kill you with physical damage, they fail, and so -2/stance (or /enchant, whatever) won't do much good. +10AL vs. <element> is a better choice. +30 in both PvE and PvP because you never know when you'll get spiked, and reliability is good. In PvE, you can take a +45/stance if you like, it probably won't make a difference.

So if I have 3 weapon slots are you guys saying that I should have + 30 /20% Blind sheild on one, then say + 10 vs Fire on other ? and 45 Stance?

People are aware that ^ is symbolic for 'above', right?
On topic, -crippled, -blind, +10 vs. each element are ideal. Swapping to the appropriate shield is key to optimizing your equipment. Physical damage reduction is next to useless on a warrior who has already has 100 armour against phsyical damage.

if I were you I'd switch out my weapon slots between PVE and PVP - it only takes 2 minutes, and that way you aren't taking non suitable items into either PVP or PVE. Also - in PVP you should have 4 slots because you dont need a bow in PVP, unless you really think you're going to pull a real live opponent towards you....

I find it best to use my weapon slots to swap out my weapon rather than offhand and keep my extra shields in my inventory and manually switch to as needed.

For PvE its simple enough to look at wiki and see just what your facing, if there is a large number of lightning eles then +10 lightning, if fire +10fire, ect..
Fire is possibly the most usefull since so many of the higher end monsters use it. The entire Right of Fire islands and the Charr both come to mind. In Factions Lightning from Rits seams to be the most powerfull and in Nightfall you have Ruby Djjin and some really nasty Earth elementals.
There is never a reason to walk into a PvE map blind, know your enemy and youve already won
