General Advice on Underworld

Leader-Legion of Avalon [LoA] Alliance-Recruiting PM for info!

Sadly one of the areas that my Guild/Alliance doesn't do is Underworld, and we're looking to change that (we'll be doing this in NM).

But we generally avoid using things like terratanking and Ursan, and we're a little uncomfortable with doing splits.

My questions are:

1) For Four Horsemen, should we still split even though we're not using a Terratank? Basically, I'm thinking of holding the ground near the Reaper and wanting to know if this is possible.

2) For Servants of Grenth, it looks like there's a central spawn point from the information on Wiki and they seperate to go attack the Reaper and the Ice King. From what I gathered this is one of the split parts-instead couldn't we just "camp" the spawn and kill the Dryders as they spawn?

3) Unwanted Guests seems to be the last quest we should do in the UW. Am I correct in this assessment?

Not sure for the first two but for the third question, my answer is yes since the ability to teleport to the different reapers makes it easier.

I'm afraid i cant help u with No.1 ive only ever done that quest with a terratank, which is something that i would advise

as for No.2 the dryders all spawn in the smae place and then branch off, again with a terra tank this is the perfect place to position him/her to agro all the dryders

1)You have to split otherwise they will kill the Reaper causing party failure
2)There is. You can camp the spawn point. It is commonly done for the terra tank to put up all enchants then someone else takes quest. Another group can stand on the ramp acting as a "speed bump" if the terra tank dies.
3)Yes. You must return to the Labrynth for your reward, and you will have the most trouble with this quest.

1) I doubt you could effectively kill them in a 4-4 split (Maybe in NM... dunno)
2) You can camp the spawn, it's done quite alot
3) Yeah, that's almost a pre-req :P (Otherwise it's not worth the effort)

Without using a Terra, how would you split for 4 Horsemen?

1) They come at you from 2 sides so you have to defend two sides at once, the last time I cleared UW without a obs terra tank, we stuck a lone ranger out front on one side to hold aggro while rest killed the other side first, monks in middle (with reaper) keeping ranger, and rest of team alive. Important part is for monks to keep reaper alive at all costs if he does get aggro.

2) Yes, camp the spawn - keep squishy team members back at start to avoid drawing aggro. Spellbreaker on a lone tank first works well. Watch out for all the spawns - 3 of them, quest triggers as complete before the last spawn, so if squishes rush forward to pick up drops it can get very messy!

3) This quest can be made easier by porting to ice wastes, vale & mountain so that you can get behind the spawns and straight to the keeper of souls thus avoiding the vengeful aatxe, so it is usually done late on after these areas have been cleared. Porting to a different location is also a great way to break aggro from them if it does occur while you are killing the keepers.

I would suggest that you make sure to do the vale quest wraithful spirits before taking the escort of souls quest, as if one of the new souls is killed by the wraithful spirits you are kicked out of the UW.

1) I never tried it that way but I think you could camp the reaper if you dedicate a spellbreaker monk to prot him. It's definetly easier with a tank though.

For the 4 horsemen, what about a [spell breaker] monk rather than an obs ele?

We've used a perma shadow form sin to do 4 horseman with success in NM if you have access to that. in HM, it's trickier because of signet of humility.
Spell breaker monk alone can't tank one side but he can use it to keep the reaper alive while the team kills stuff.

The first quest I would do (after talking to the first reaper at the beginning) is "The Terrorweb Queen." Definitely don't leave this one for last!

Why? Because one night my alliance did UW, got all the way to this quest (was our last one), killed the Queen, and NOOOEZ! We couldn't accept the quest reward due to an apparent known bug that sometimes pops up while taking this quest.

I dunno if ANet has fixed this, but you definitely don't want to spend all the time to get there and no be able to complete UW because of this bug.

Last time we did Four Horsemen in NM I tanked one side as a trapping ranger with a "regular" wammo tank and a partial tasked Monk. By partial tasked, I mean he hung out by the reaper and tossed heals our way as possible. We didn't run any PvE skills.

With a good trap set laid out, the escorts for the reapers all died right away and we just had to hang out with the 2 horsemen while the other larger chunk of the team finished off the southern group and then came to help us.

For Servants of Grenth, absolutely you want to hang out in the spawn point with some hard targets. Since a 55 mo and ss/sv necro can do this quest, it gives you a good hint as to how to do it. As stated above, the hard part is the third wave which comes after you think you're done.

Unwanted guests - as stated above, having the reaper of the wastes, labrynth, and vale unlocked makes this a much easier quest.

EotN has a couple of PvE trapper skills that we might be able to utilize without have a full trapper, so that's a good possibility.

A SB protter sounds interesting-I'll have to tinker with some builds and see.
